A bright normal-length lens, the Canon EF-mount YN 50mm f/1.4 from Yongnuo is a versatile prime well-suited for available-light photography in a variety of situations. The fast f/1.4 maximum aperture offers increased control over depth of field for working with shallow depth of field techniques and also suits working in difficult lighting conditions. The optical design incorporates four ultra-high refractive index elements, which reduce spherical aberrations and distortion, and individual elements feature a multi-layer coating to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions. A DC motor affords quick and accurate autofocus performance and a switch lets you quickly change from AF and MF focusing methods. Additionally, a micro-USB port is integrated in the lens design to permit installing firmware updates.

Normal prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides an 80mm equivalent focal length.

Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture affords a great deal of control over depth of field for isolating subjects and using selective focus, and also benefits working in low-light conditions.

Four ultra-high refractive index elements help to minimize distortion and spherical aberrations for greater sharpness and accurate subject rendering.

Individual glass elements feature a multi-layer coating to resist flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity.

A DC motor is used for quick and accurate autofocus performance, and a dedicated switch lets you quickly change from AF to MF control. A focus distance scale is also featured to aid with pre-focusing techniques.

Chrome-plated metal lens mount is durable and accurate for a secure fit with the camera body, and gold-plated contacts help to ensure consistent communication between the lens and camera.

Seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth bokeh quality.

A micro-USB port is incorporated for updating the lens's firmware.

Q: 1. Does it have internal focusing motor, e.g. will it auto-focus with Nikon FTS adapter on Z6/Z7 mirrorless?

A: This lens has a AF motor allowing it to work with any Nikon F mount camera including a Z camera with a Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter.

Q: 2. The aperture mechanism doesn't work on Sony cameras via the Sigma MC-11 adapter. Is there any way to make it work on Sony?

Am new to the Nikon family and wanted an affordable AND quality prime. The reviews here convinced me to buy one. A B&H rep liked it as well. The lens turned out to be worth than the money we paid. Is it ever sharp. Love this lens.

Exceptionally pleased with the tack sharp focus and sturdy build. Motor is loud that is ok, now I’m researching the test of time because I’ve had it less than a month. Very happy from a guy who before only bought brand name lens. The price made it worth the gamble for a 1.4 so far blown away by the quality.

Youd think for the price this would have some flaws. At f.1/4 its pretty sharp at f.2 its razor sharp. I did not look at the outer edges of the frames as Im concerned with my subject. Good buy for the price.

It's no the definitive lens. But considering price/quality it makes a huge value for the money.
By now, construction quality seems very good, but you shold remind it's not sealed.
Sharp enougth and superb depth of field.
Autofocus is a little bit slow.

I told myself I would never by another lens for I have many to go with my Nikon 810, the 135mm 2.0, 85mm 1.8, 35mm 1.8, 20-70mm 2.8 an the 70-300m 2.8. when I saw this 50mm 1.4 for only $169, I said why not. I wasnt expecting much from it. Guys this lens is definitely one of the best lenses ever!!! The auto focus is fast and the picture is beautiful not soft at 1.4! bokah is great also. Lens is well built metal not plastic!

It's not a perfect lens. If you're looking for the most life accurate lens with perfect everything this is not the lens for you. But if you are looking for a tool that helps you capture your story as you want to tell it, this is definitely one of those tools. It over delivers.

The lens has its own feel to it. There's some vignetting, a little bit of chrom ab and the AF is a bit slow and slightly noisy. But those things have not been a set back for me at all. Once you learn the way the lens behaves it is quite an incredible lens.

At 1.4 the lens can be insanely sharp and accurate. It can miss, sure, but it's pretty true most of the time and the quality is stunning. Anything smaller just gets sharper and more accurate. It has not disappointed me. I shoot quick. I'm not very big on posing and perfecting. I like to get it as I see it when I see it and this lens is keeping up with my demands.

The build quality is great! feels solid. Definitely get a UV filter to protect the front element. I know it goes without saying but the front element is very close to the front of the lens so I feel it's vulnerable to scratches. The focus ring has a very large throw, a little over 180 degrees.

In the end, it's a great lens. It's not an L replacer... but for the price it has exceeded my expectation. I'm very happy with it.

I really wanted a 50mm 1.4 but couldn't justify it since I had a 1.8. But my daughter's sweet 16 was coming up and my 1.8 was having issues so saw this lens and figured I'd give it a shot. I really wanted a full frame lens even though I'm using a DX camera because I am going to switch over soon so couldn't beat the price and got good reviews. When I saw the pics, wow. What a great lens and I'd say especially for the price but it holds up really well against the big shots. I let 2 friends use it and they too were impressed and are going to get it as well. Certainly worth the money.

So far, this has been a great lens. I'm using it with my Blackmagic Ursa Mini 4K digital film camera (shooting mostly video) and the results are really good. Very happy. Nice look without the super high pricing that you see with other lens companies. Not sure how they do it - but the images are looking great!
