The 16.5-stop, 150 x 150mm Solid ND Filter from Ice is an ND filter with a 100,000x filter factor that provides a 16.5-stop exposure reduction. Its 5.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed without overexposing your image. By slowing your exposure time, you can create motion blur for special effects or to convey a sense of movement. Opening your iris allows you to create shallow depth of field, which can help isolate your subject. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

This solid neutral density filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. A plastic case is included for storage and transport.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this filter have UV and IR protection coatings?

A: No, the Kase Wolverine ND100000 Magnetic Filter with Adapter Ring (95mm, 16.5 Stop) does not have UV and IR coatings.

Q: 2. Where are these made? Thanks.

A: These are manufactured in China.

Q: 3. will this the Cannon LA-DC58K Lense Adapter I just bought from you all ?

A: Although the Canon LA-DC58K Lens Adapter has 58mm threads, attaching a 58mm filter might cause vignetting.

Q: 4. Is this filter, ND100,000 safe to photograph the sun? For a prolong period like a solar eclipse , 4-6 hours?

A: 4-6 hours is a lot. Usually an eclipse you take a photo that is fractions of a second. This ICE Magco Solar filter does not list reducing UV and infrared. If you plan on doing long exposures of the sun I recommend a filter that reduces UV and infrared like this one DayStar Filters 90mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1319794-REG

Q: 5. Is this good to shot the Solar Eclipse with an FE 200-600 f/6.3 and a 1.4 teleconverter. Is the image white or yellow?

A: Yes, the Kase Wolverine ND100000 Magnetic Filter with Adapter Ring (95mm, 16.5 Stop) will be able to go onto your Sony FE 200-600mm F/5.6-6.3 G OSS Lens to photograph the solar eclipse.

Q: 6. will PolarPro 82mm ND1000 QuartzLine Circular Polarizer Filter (10-Stop) cause vignetting at 15mm of Canon RF 15-35 F/2.8 lens?

A: The PolarPro 82mm ND1000 QuartzLine Solid Neutral Density 3.0 and Circular Polarizer Filter (10-Stop) will not vignette at 15mm on the Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens (Canon RF).

Q: 7. Quartzline is also 99. What's the difference between this and that? Wouldn't a combo be better?

A: The PolarPro 82mm ND64 QuartzLine Solid Neutral Density 1.8 and Circular Polarizer Filter (6-Stop) is a combination of neutral density and polarization in one filter. This provides 6-stops of exposure reduction, while the PolarPro 82mm QuartzLine Circular Polarizer Filter (B&H # POCP82Q) just provides polarization with 1.3 stops of exposure reduction. The ND and Circular Polarizer filter may makes sense for those that need an all-in-one solution. There are some that will only require a polarizer filter if they're working with a matte box or built-in ND filters.

Q: 8. Is this a glass or film filter?

A: The Ice 77mm Solar Mc Nd100000 (Includes Magnetic Adapter Ring) is a glass filter.

Q: 9. Can you confirm this filter can be used to film the solar eclipse? What's the total time frame?

A: The Marumi 77mm DHG ND-100000 Solid Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Eclipse Filter (16.5 Stops) is unsuitable for photographing the solar eclipse. The filter does not cut harmful IR and UV light.

Q: 10. Is this compatible with Kase K9 100mm Filter Holder (BH #KAK9 MFR #K9)? If not, is there any similar filter compatible?

A: It won't fit. Kase K9 100mm Filter Holder (BH #KAK9) accepts 100mm wide 2mm thick filters like this one: Ice 100 x 100mm ND100000 Solid Neutral Density 5.0 Filter (16.5-Stop) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1423187-REG/ice_ice_100k_100_100x100mm_4x4_square_nd100000_filter.html

With the big 2017 total eclipse I bought this filter so I can take pictures as it happens. The eclipse isn't until Aug. 21st which I am right in the path of totality. I have be practicing using the filter to photograph the sun and I am very happy with the results using my Cannon DSLR. I am sure I will get some good photos as the moon crosses the sun.

I installed this on my Canon 16-35 lens for the eclipse on April 8th. The magnetic interface makes it easy to remove and replace on the lens while keeping it securely in place during shooting.

I intend to use this for the 204 solar eclipse. In the meantime, I can get nice shots of the sun's surface through my Canon mirrorless camera. I believe you should not use this to look directly at the sun, but through the mirrorless, no issues! I like the way the filter attaches via to the magnetic ring.
