The microscope (macro) mode on this camera is amazing by itself for how much the camera is. Adding the light to it makes it so much better! You can put the camera straight up to something, and it will turn out. The light does not oversaturate at all. We just keep this on the camera at all times, it even looks cool with it!

The light ring adds to an already versatile camera. I like taking close ups and this adds light to an easily shadowed subject. It's easy to use and the exposure is spot on. The only objection I have is there were no instructions. I originally thought it worked with the flash but it uses the built in LED so that has to be turned on. But once I got that it has proven to be a terrific gadget.

In the name it tells us it for very close up work, that's what Macro means.

At first I thought it was used as a ring light fed by the flash, and it didn't work, I was going to give it 1 or 2 stars. Then, looking at it more closely, it is obvious that the light is fed into the ring light from the LED, not from the flash. I read some reviews, and learned that many users didn't understand you are supposed to use the LED lamp instead of the flash~!!!

First time I tried it on a tiny mineral specimen it was way overexposed, but the camera makes adjusting light levels very easy, the second exposure was fine.

Instructions on the specs pages, a little sheet of paper instructions in the box with the ring light, something to give first time users that clue is badly needed.

The TG-4 is a versatile camera that offers both basic and advanced features for users at all levels. The LG-1 Macro Ring Light is a simple solution to what could be a complex problem. Since the TG-4 will focus as close as 1/2 inch with its standard lens, the basic flash is not able to properly illuminate the scene. Traditional alternatives may involve external lights that would reduce the convenient, portable aspect of the camera. The LG-1 clips to the lens mount and redirects the camera's internal flash into the ring that diffuses the light, keeping the total package simple and portable. Although it is less flexible than a multi-flash setup, it's a lot less complicated. The LG-1 works quite well for macro scenes where basic, diffused lighting is all one needs.

It's not perfect and could, as others have noted, been brighter, yet it serves its purpose! For the price, you can't go wrong. Add a Litra light or two and you'll have all the light you'll ever need.

Used the Macro Ring Light on a Olympus TG-3 to take pictures of old coins. The improved light really helped bring out the details in the coins. Future use will be in taking closeup pictures of insects in the Galapagos Islands this coming May. The product arrived much faster then I expected. Great service!!! Thanks, Frank

My experience is that the TG-3 almost always requires some type of additional light when used in microscope mode. This light ring lights up the area evenly and allows full use of the macro/microscope mode. Note that this light ring has no electronics (led, etc) and really should be called a light guide as it used the cameras built in led and evenly spreads the lights around the subject. This light guide is probably the one accessory that allows full use of the TG-3's microscope mode. Advantages: - No extra batteries require as it uses the cameras battery. - Does not seem to affect the sealant of the camera and can be used in inclement weather conditions. - Light weight Disadvantages: - Requires that a trim ring on around the lens be removed first before the light guide can be installed and then the cameras led needs to be turned on. - No way to only light a subject from only one or two directions (will always light subject 360 degrees). - Seems quite pricey for a couple of pieces of molded plastic (and being plastic I'm unwilling to put it in my pocket and see how it fares when I sit it unlike the rest of the camera). - Cannot go from macro photograph to flash photography without fist removing the light guide (or turning it to uncover the flash but that
