Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this have hard stops?

A: Hello Michael, The Variable ND Filter does not have hard stops. The nature of this type of filter will not have incremental hard stops, and the MIN and MAX marks on the rings are used as a guide.

Q: 2. Does this ND fader have circular or linear polarizing?

A: Hello David, we have used Circular Polarisers inside the ND Fader.

Q: 3. I have Nikon 16-35mm len. I heard someone indicated that this len may cause flare. Can I attach my 77mm len hood to my wide-angle len first and then attach this ND len on the wide-angle len???

A: Not really. The Eclipse should be attached to the Wide Angle lens and then attach the Fader Hood. The hood should reduce the chance of flare.

Q: 4. Is there some kind of bracket available for me to attach my Nexus 7 to use as a monitor? Something that would make it quick and easy to clip on or remove when I set up the jib?

A: If the mount he has for his Nexus 7 has a 1/4 -20 or 3/8 threaded stud there are several places where an arm can be screwed into the pillar of the Jib-Arm.

Q: 5. I want to use my Cordvision Cine Rings with this matte box. They have a 77mm thread, and 80mm outside diameter. Is there a 80mm clamp on ring for the Genustech Production Matte Box?

A: Genustech does not offer an 80mm clamp-on adapter ring for the Genustech Production Matte Box Complete Kit; however, the included 77mm step-up ring will screw onto a 77mm filter thread.

Q: 6. hi half the comments say it does X half don't - so which is it ? Yes or No ??

A: Typically most variable nd filters have an x effect and or a color bias when used at the full nd setting. As a rule of thumb, you should stop short of the max and maybe go to about 2 stops lower than the max of the filter. For example if a variable nd filter goes to 10 stops, it would be advisable to shot at 8 stops or below.

Q: 7. will this fit the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM Zoom Lens for Canon DSLRs with APS-C Sensors?

A: YES IT WILL FIT.

Q: 8. Would this be compatible with the GH5?

A: That depends on the lenses being used. If you are using lenses with the GH5 with an outside diameter between 52 to 114mm it will work. This kit also includes step up rings that go from 52, 58, 62, 67, 72, 77, 82 to 82mm each.

Q: 9. Can you tell by feel, like a notch or something when you rotate for densities with is filter...If not which one has that you would recommend w/o breaking the bank to much?... Thanks in advance..

A: There are no notches or clicks as you rotate the filter. Rotation is smooth. I haven't used the filter in a large number of instances yet, but other reviewers have spoken highly of the lack of color shift. It is a hunk of glass, well built and most likely worth the investment. I chose it as a middle cost point with satisfied users.

Q: 10. Are Minimal = 2 stops and Max = 8 stops? How do I read the marks on the ring to know 2/4/8 stops?

A: When I am using the Eclipse I never worry about what stop I am using. What difference does it make? All I am interested in doing is getting it dark enough to be able to slow down my shutter speed so that I can get the effect I want. I never have to change filters if the 2 stop or 6 stop isn't enough, I just rotate the filter. Don't think about what number it is just use the the darkness you need. Hope this helps.

i had a cheap @ variable nd and it did ok for when filming in bright areas, but in post you can see how bad it changed the colors and blacks looked downright awful. i decided to go for the Eclipse and whoaaaaaaaaaa!!! shooting on the sigma 18-35 at 1.8 or even my 50 art 1.4 is sooo much better and im getting stunning shots, either with my canon 60d or bmpcc

I use this ND filter on my GH4 and the results are excellent. I've own two ND filters in the past, both of them cheap models from Polaroid. This filter is thinner, lighter, and has noticeably less effect on sharpness and hue. The construction is solid. When rotating the filter, the spinning motion feels nice and smooth yet never loose. I also like the font style and colors on the edge. Everything piece of this filter is well-constructed and makes me happy with the price tag - even if I am usually a cheapskate.

It really helps a lot to shoot at low 'f stops' or 't stops'! The only downside is that we cant put the lens cap or lens hood while using.

I used to this fader in bright light to maintain a shallow depth of field on the subject. It has a very smooth feel and the dreaded X type pattern does not appear at the maximum setting. It is lightweight, well-built and well worth the investment.

I got this and use it triple-stacked

Hollywood Black Magic 1/4 + Hoya IR CUT + This 77mm Eclipse Vari-ND

for use on my BMPCC rig. It works a treat and the combo give a really great look to my shots. I haven't tried it for long exposure photography but I suppose I really should.
