Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I currently have a DE series 3mp PTZ that works very well, would anyone know if this camera is comparable in optics quality and or features and performance?

A: This camera will be a little better in viewing since the 3 MP cameras send out a 4:3 aspect ratio video signal whereas the 4 MP will send out a 16:9 wider aspect ratio.

Q: 2. why is my firmware version newer than what is showing on the Hikvision website?

A: Please make sure you are using the Hikvision USA website when searching for firmware.

Q: 3. does this camera have Auto tracking?

A: The Hikvision DS-2DE4A425IW-DE 4MP Outdoor PTZ Network Dome Camera with Night Vision has Smart Tracking built into the camera. You can open the PTZ menu and Sub Menu of Smart Tracking. Instructions are located on page 71 in the manual.

Q: 4. This camera needs a network? Or it “creates” its own?

A: In order to view this camera’s video feed through the Hik-Connect mobile app or through a PC, you need to connect it to a network router. It cannot “create” its own network.

Q: 5. Can this be mounted on an wall? Ex, mounted on the side of my house.

A: Yes. This camera may be wall mounted. Use the recommended pendant camp and wall mount under our ACCESSORIES tab for this camera.

Q: 6. Is it possible to record video to the SD card only when motion is detected?

A: No. This camera may be set to continuous recording mode.

Q: 7. Can this camera operate with just the Ethernet connection or does it require a wall socket too?

A: This camera can operate with just an Ethernet cable, as long as it is connected to a POE+ (30W) injector or switch.

Q: 8. I live at the end of a cul-de-sac and look directly down the street. Will this camera be able to read a license plate at about 120 feet, also will the night vision be sufficient at this distance. Does camera track people? Only one review on this camera makes it very hard to know exactly what this camera is capable of. Any additional information would be appreciated

A: It will depend on the speed of the vehicle. Very slow moving vehicles should capture the plate. However, please keep in mind that you will need to have the image zoomed in so that the license plate takes up the entire image.

Q: 9. Is the audio in for mic level or line level? The "white" wire is for audio in, but I don't find anything that give specifics

A: Audio Input: When an intercom is connected to this camera, you need to set this option to Line In . When a microphone is connected to the camera, you need to set this option to Mic In.

Q: 10. After I received my camera, I noticed that the mounting configuration doesn't seem very secure - the camera can be easily removed from the mounting plate with a twist. Is there a way to make this interface more secure?

A: You could drive screws through both the camera plate and the mounting plate to create a more secure installation.
