The 138mm #12 Yellow Filter from Tiffen is a filter designed to increase contrast and tonal separation for black and white photography. The filter absorbs blue colors, rendering blues darker. Haze is minimized for aerial photography and excessive blue is removed for astrophotography. The #12 Yellow Filter is recommended as a basic filter for use with Kodak's Aero Ektachrome Infrared Film. The filter has a filter factor of 2, so you must increase by 1 full stop to your exposure to compensate.

Tiffen filters are not dyed, but are manufactured by using ColorCore technology. This process laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass and grinds down and polishes the glass. The glass is then mounted to the metal ring, which after that can be screwed onto the lens for the desired effect.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this yellow filter just for use with B&W photos, I take aerial color photos, I need it to cut the haze but will it mess up the color?

A: All previous responses are correct. A yellow filter, when used with color film, will produce a yellow hue over your entire image. A haze filter or a polarizing filter is your best choice for your aerial photos.

Q: 2. Is this filter multi-coated?

A: The answer is a qualified - NO. Tiffen filters are not solid glass likemost other filters. They are created by a special lamination process. The dyes are mixed with thinners and solvents and they applied to aglass substrate. The laminate forms an ultra thin coating that isless than 1 mil thick. A second clear glass plate is placed on top ofthe coated glass forming a sandwich. The laminate filter is thensubjected to high heat and pressure to fuse it together. Since thecoating is between the two layers of glass it is protected indfinitelyfrom any wear. The outer surfaces of the filter are not coated to myknowledge. You can scratch tho outer glass but not the coating inbetween.

Q: 3. Will this fit the Rokinon Cine DS 24mm T1.5 ED AS IF UMC Full Frame Cine Lens f/ Canon EF- DS24M-C

A: Yes, it will.

Q: 4. How do I remove something from my cart?

A: Please contact B&H Customer Support

Q: 5. Hi!Can the 0.9 and 0.6 Tiffen ND filters be stacked with the B+W ND filters and circular polarizer filters?Additionally, since this Tiffen filter does not have any form of coating on it, what are the effects of that?Thank you!

A: As long as the B+W filters in question have 52mm filter threads on the front of the filter, you would ba able to attach the Tiffen 52mm 0.6 Neutral Density Filter and the Tiffen 52mm 0.9 Neutral Density Filter to the front of the filter. The main issue that may arise from the filter not having coatings would be the chance of obtaining more internal flare or glare from using the filter. However, as such, I would recommend using your lens hood to reduce the occurrence of glare or flare.

Q: 6. Can this filter be combined with the Tiffin 77MM variable ND filter to become a super stopper like lens?

A: I suppose it's possible if you put this on the lens first and the variND after but I can't imagine why you would want to. The coatings on this filter aren't very good and there'd be some loss in sharpness, not to mention weird color shifts.

Q: 7. will this work on a nikon z30 kit lens?

A: Yes, the Nikon Z30 Mirrorless Camera with 16-50mm Lens is compatible with the Tiffen 46mm ND 1.2 Filter (4-Stop).

Q: 8. Does this fit the Canon 14mm F2.8 L Mark 1 lens?

A: No, this Tiffen 48mm Rear Mount ND 1.2 Filter is not compatible with the rear filter slot on the Canon 14mm f/2.8L lens.

Q: 9. My Tiffen Yellow #12 is a lighter yellow than my Tiffen Yellow #8. Is this correct? I thought the #12 would be darker than the #8?

A: I have a B+W 022 filter that is equivalent to a Wratten number 8, it is lighter yellow than my Tiffen number 12.

Q: 10. Will this vignette with 7.5mm ultrawide Laowa lens?

A: There will be very little vignetting with this filter.
