This 6-stop, 77mm NiSi Combination Solid ND and Circular Polarizer Filter combines a solid neutral density effect with a circular polarizer effect. When in use, this filter's 64x filter factor provides a 6-stop exposure reduction. Its 1.8 optical density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed without overexposing your image By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Simultaneously, this filter can help to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter is non-coated and is constructed from optical glass for clarity and features an aluminum alloy filter ring that can be rotated to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect.

1.8 optical density filter effect darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required

Providing a 64x filter factor with a 6-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily

Polarizing filter effect arranges, and filters, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors

Strongest polarization effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun

Circular polarizer effect is ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features

Constructed from optical glass for clarity

Aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight

Filter ring can be rotated to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect

77mm front filter threads allow for use with other filters

Plastic filter case for storage and transport

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this produce an X-Pattern at max ND?

A: It does at just beyond max, I just back it off a tiny bit and it's fine. The ND range is large enough that if you need to go beyond max, it's a sign that adjusting the ISO a touch might be a good idea.

Q: 2. What is the filter thickness? Not stated in the specs. Thx

A: Screw-on filters like the Polar Pro ND64 QuartzLine do not traditionally specify filter thickness. We measured ours at the store and without the filter threads, the filter measures 6.21mm thick.

Q: 3. Would this filter give me rich and colorful results when doing street photography, and if so, how many stops should I go for so that I dont have to change the filter too often even if it gets dark, 3, 4 stops?... or should I go for a polarizer one? Thanks

A: Yes, it will clean up your images by saturating colors and increasing contrast. I would just go with a polarizer that would cut out about 1-2 stops.

Q: 4. Hello, What is the thickness of the filter?

A: The filter is 7mm thick, 2mm of that is thread

Q: 5. Is it easy to see the effect of the polarizer and set it properly since the filter is so dark?

A: It is not as easy as when you have the ND and polarizer filters separate, but the best option is to increase the ISO a lot to focus and also to set the polarization and then turn the ISO down to take the picture.

Q: 6. dOES IT COME WITH A POUCH?

A: While it does not include a pouch, the Genustech 82mm Variable Neutral Density and Circular Polarizer Filter, B&H # GEGPND82, does include a filter case. As listed under the "In The Box" section under the Overview tab on our website, the following items are included with the purchase of the Genustech 82mm Variable Neutral Density and Circular Polarizer Filter: In the Box Genustech 82mm Variable Neutral Density and Circular Polarizer Filter Filter Case Microfiber Cleaning Cloth Polarizer Element Rotation Handle Limited 1-Year Warranty

Q: 7. Does the combo ND/PL also help w/ saturation/contrast as well or just glare reduction?

A: When using the variable circular polarizing section of the PolarPro 82mm ND64 QuartzLine Solid Neutral Density 1.8 and Circular Polarizer Filter, one can increase saturation and contrast in a photo, as well as glare reduction.

Q: 8. Can I stack this filter with PolarPro 82mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop) and have a great result?

A: The PolarPro 82mm ND1000 QuartzLine Solid Neutral Density 3.0 and Circular Polarizer Filter (10-Stop) has front 82mm filter threads so you coudl stack filters. It is never a good idea to stack a variable ND filter with another ND filter. This will reduce image quality.

Q: 9. Does this filter screw onto the front element? Or is it made to use with filter holder system only? I need it for my Canon 24-70L II, which has an 82mm thread. Thank you.

A: Yes, it is a regular screw in type filter.

Q: 10. Does it have hard stops?

A: It is smooth. Most variable ND filters are smooth so make the transition smoother in video.
