Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this comparable with. Nikon D5000?

A: No it is not. This is for the newer mirrorless cameras not the DSLRs.

Q: 2. There are two images of this lens. One is very short, like a pancake. The other is longer. Can you please explain the two different looks? I am looking at this for a Canon R5, if that matters.

A: Lensbaby desing this lens in 2 different size for different camera mounts. The correct image for the Canon RF mount is the third image in our website which is the largest version. The lens dimensions are 63mm x72mm (LxW), with a front diamter of 46mm to attach filters.

Q: 3. Will it fit on a Nikon D500?

A: Yes, the Lensbaby Sol 45mm f/3.5 Lens for Nikon F Cameras, B&H # LELBS45N, would be compatible for use on the Nikon D500 DSLR camera. Do note that this is a fully manual lens with a fixed f/3.5 aperture. You will have to use the camera in either A (Aperture-priority) or M (Manual) mode, and to have the camera enter the EXIF data for the lens, you would have to go to the Setup Menu and go to the Non-CPU Lens Data section and enter the lens' focal length and aperture into the menu as stated on pages 250-252 in the Nikon D500 DSLR camera's instruction manual.

Q: 4. My Canon R6 won't shoot with the Sol 45mm. I get F00 message. What's wrong?

A: As the Lensbaby Sol 45mm f/3.5 Lens for Canon EF Cameras is a fully manual lens and has no electronic contacts, the Canon EOS R6 Mirrorless Camera does not know a lens is connected when using this lens on the camera. As such, you would need to go into the camera's menu under the Custom Function Menu (Tab 4), and under [Release Shutter w/o Lens], select [ON: Enable], which will allow you to release the shutter of your camera when using the Lensbaby Sol 45mm f/3.5 Lens for Canon EF Cameras (or a third-party lens with a manual lens adapter).

Q: 5. With a Nikon D750, do I use Aperture priority? Is this lens difficult to learn how to use?

A: Yes, you do. The instructions in the manual will tell you to use Aperture. I use the D750 also. Lensbaby are all manual focus so it can be a challenge to use. My eyes are not the best so I do have to work at the focusing. I just bought the Velvet 85 and it is challenging also. But that being said, I love this little lens! It really can be fun. Here is a shot I did with the Sol 45. https://www.flickr.com/photos/kellykayhorne/48922189672/in/dateposted/

Q: 6. How much does the sol 45 weigh? ( fuji)

A: B&H ‘specs’ indicate 9.6 oz (272 gm). In your hand, it will feel even lighter!

Q: 7. There's some play in the lens due to the front of the lens moving relative to the axis of the barrel. Anyone else seen this problem?

A: That does happen sometimes. That is because a spring in the mount is not very tight. The lens will still work perfectly though and allow for great images. That type of movement happens with any lens of any manufacturer.

Q: 8. Will it work on my Canon 5D? ( basic I Know!! )

A: Yes, this lens will work on your Canon 5D!

Q: 9. Is it avalable for the canon mirrorless?

A: Yes, click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/35PeeNk

Q: 10. Will this work with Canon T7?

A: Yes, this will fit on all EF/EF-S mount cameras, like your EOS Rebel T7.

I’m loving the Sol 45! This inexpensive lens gives you a creative tool to bring your images to an artistic level. I love dreamy bokeh but sharp focus on subject matter and this lens can pull it off. It’s manual focus as are all Lensbaby lenses, so if you don’t have steady hands you may want to pass. This is my 2nd Lensbaby purchase and I love it! I’ve tried it with the blades and without but tend not to use the blades. It just depends on what you’re going for in your shot. I highly recommend it for someone wanting to try an artistic lens for the first time since it’s inexpensive.

If you love everything about Lensbaby lenses, this should be on top of the list! This is my second Lensbaby product and it's not at all disappointing! If you follow through how to use Lensbaby in general with manual focus, this is super easy to adapt and the bokeh is simply beautiful.

Love this lens for getting creative images! Though it takes practice to get the focus sharp where you want it to be.

Lensbaby hit a home run with this little lens ! The sweet spot stays in the frame ( no worries ) and the aperture is fixed ( again, no worries ).
So far, I've used it on my Canon 77D for urban landscapes and for tabletop Still Lifes.
Great lens - I love it !

I just started using the Lensbaby Composer Sweet 50 about a month or so ago. I love the bokeh it produces so when the Sol 45 was released I ordered it as well. This lens has a constant f/3.5 and the ability to change the appearance of the bokeh by tilting the lens or using 1 or 2 of the little gates that are attached to the front of the lens. I love that it lets you exercise your own creativity!

I love this lens! The bokeh is amazingly smooth. It takes a bit of work to get the hang of it but once you do the photos are terrific. The hardest aspect of the lens is to make sure the image is truly in focus since its a manual focus lens and the area that is in focus is very small. Once you understand how to use it the images are very sharp. Practice makes perfect with this lens and the price point is well within reach.

I recently purchased the Velvet 56 for my Canon 90D and was thrilled with the results. What I really like about the SOL 45 is that if you do not need to step down to 5.6 and higher, fixed at 3.5 will produce sharp images in the center and dreamy on the edges. Superb construction and very small! The price is a real bargain for a product of this high quality! You must use Live View and focus tweaking to get the best images. The small focus ring in the front is easy to use once you practice using it. This lens is like carrying a special effects lab on the front of your camera!

I have the Sweet 35 with Composer Pro. I've had it for years. For sure it's challenging but I bring it out when I'm feeling creative and occasionally get some very nice images. Using Sony focus peaking really helps... But I find the Composer to be a bit fussy and fumbly. When I saw the Sol the other day, I was impressed that it's smaller. Taking out the aperture variable also seemed like it would make the process easier. At the price point and with B&H's return policy I gave it a go and got it in 24 hours!... I did a quick dozen shots on my A9- yes the Sol supports full frame. I got a couple of images that look very good. The sharp parts are way sharp the the out of focus parts are so buttery- haven't tried the bokeh blades yet.... The Sol just seems like it's more solid and easier to use than the Composer. It's like a little rock- heavier than expected... It's a keeper...
