Shoot at staggering distances with the 125x optical zoom COOLPIX P1000 Digital Camera from Nikon. This camera, which has a 16MP backside illuminated CMOS sensor, features a built-in NIKKOR lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length range of 24-3000mm. You can zoom even further with 250x Dynamic Fine digital zoom, which will give you an equivalent focal length of 6000mm. Coupled with these extreme focal lengths is Nikon's Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction, which provides 5 stops of optical image stabilization and ensures your telephoto shots are crisp.

Gracing the back of the camera are a 3.2" vari-angle, 921k-dot LCD monitor and an eye-level 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder, so your subjects will always be easy to see. The camera is also capable of recording 4K UHD video at 30 or 25 fps and supports an external microphone via a 3.5mm connector.

Camera shake may be a concern while shooting at extreme focal lengths on a tripod. Or, you may need to otherwise remotely operate the P1000. The optional ML-L7 remote satisfies these needs with wireless operation off the camera's zoom, shutter, and other settings. Once you're done with a shoot, immediately access your photos on a paired smartphone via the Nikon SnapBridge app and the camera's built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The backside-illuminated sensor with 16 million effective pixels can output detailed images at sensitivities between ISO 100 and 6400. It can also create 4K UHD movies at 30 or 25 fps.

An absurd 24-3000mm (35mm equivalent) focal range means few, if any, objects are out of the reach of your lens. Zoom is further enhanced by Dynamic Fine digital zoom, which makes the maximum focal length a ridiculous 6000mm. Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction provides 5 stops of optical image stabilization so your handheld shots are crisp.

The P1000 features a bright vari-angle 3.2" LCD display that makes composing and reviewing images and movies a breeze. Also available is the 0.39", 2.36 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder for a more traditional shooting style.

A control ring at the front of the device can be used for a variety of functions, like adjusting focus, exposure, white balance, and ISO, all from the lens barrel. Also on the barrel is a zoom toggle and a dedicated Snapback button that will make your P1000 quickly zoom out in case you lose sight of your subject at long focal lengths. Releasing the button will return the focal length to its previous position.

Nikon's SnapBridge technology allows for seamless photo sharing directly from your camera to a paired smartphone device.

The P1000 features a slew of shooting modes that adjust settings for different scenarios like sunsets, fireworks, and portraits. The popular Moon Mode is great for shooting Earth's closest neighbor and the new Bird Mode optimizes the camera for capturing the often bright and colorful creatures.

The ML-L7 remote (not included) can wirelessly adjust a variety of setting such as ISO, zoom, and aperture, in addition to triggering the shutter of the P1000. This lets you maintain precise composition while shooting from a tripod.

The EN-EL20a battery is rated for 250 shots per charge. Recharging takes only approximately 3 hours.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can i use themis camera even thouh im not a professional photographer .

A: No. The shutter release button will fail to engage if you are not a professional photographer. As an extra precaution, amateurs will receive a slight, non-fatal electric shock.

Q: 2. I own a P900 & noticed that the P1000 will not have GPS, which I find useful. It also weighs over a pound more than the P900?

A: Vs the P900, the P1000 has:4K, RAW, Bluetooth, Mic Jack, is 3 years newer and has a much longer telephoto. (the big selling point)Apparently, Nikon feels that it gave things people wanted and took away GPS in exchange. I think GPS should have stayed as well.

Q: 3. Does this refurbished item include a battery with it?

A: With most any B&H item, you can go to the lower right of the page and see the "In The Box" list. This refurbished item comes with a battery.

Q: 4. What exposure value options are available for bracking?

A: You can set the exposure bracketing to +/- in 0.3, 0.7 or 1.0 EV.

Q: 5. Does it take slow motion video?

A: No, the Nikon COOLPIX P1000 Digital Camera does not have a high frame rate video option for slow-motion video recording capability.

Q: 6. I see a lot of emphasis on the zoom quality but I am also wanting something ideal for taking good family photos or close up images as well?

A: The P1000 is a perfectly good all round camera for everything from family photos, close ups (it focuses to 1 cm from the objective lens) and of course super zoom. To be able to have all of this in one camera is fabulous! No swapping lenses or having to carry around or invest in a lot of different lenses is a great plus factor. It means you always have the focal length lens you need for whatever comes up at a moments notice and I have found that to be a huge positive feature.

Q: 7. Does this camera have a form of Log?

A: The Nikon COOLPIX P1000 Digital Camera does not have the capability to record in Log.

Q: 8. Can we tether this camera for shooting via computer, like we can the DSLRs?

A: Sorry, we are not finding any tethering options for this camera at this time.

Q: 9. What is the real focal length of the lens and not the 35mm equivalent? Also at max telephoto the specs say 2.8 to 8 -- what does that mean?

A: 4.3 to 539 I saw it on the top of the barrel when it was extended in one of the photos I found (much later....).

Q: 10. What is the shutter response time? Is response time same as for the upper tier DSLRs such as D750 and above or is there lag as in other lower end models?

A: The reaction time is good for a point and shoot but not as fast as a DSLR.

I bought this P-1000 as a easy carry camera while on vacation
It's a amazing Camera with its wide range of focal lengths
Picture quality is good but not as sharp as my Nikon D-850
As expected. It will enable to to get photos at a long range with the amazing 3000 mm focal length

I've had and enjoyed my P900 for over four years now, and loved using it. My P1000 has already greatly expanded what I can do, and I love it! I'm disabled, so 98% of my shots are from the car window or from my chair, and I have to have reach because I can't hike out to the actual location so have to shoot from a distance. My P1000 is nearly as good as being there!

I flipped back and forth between a super long zoom for my Nikon D7200 or this camera, but this is much cheaper than the separate lens, not quite as fast, but way more distance capability. Yes, now I have to carry two cameras and it's fairly heavy, but at least it's ready when I grab it, and I don't have to swap lenses in the field on my D7200. So far, loving the images!

I purchased this point and shoot camera to record the moon and birds. I haven't done much shooting with it yet but have tested it out on my bird feeder and squirrel population and the results have been great. I missed the recent pink moon photography because Mother Nature put some clouds in my way but I will get my chance. I like the fact that it records in RAW, jpeg or both. Great product so far.

I am very happy about trading my P900 and getting P1000.
Worth it up grading my equipment .

Initially, I thought that this camera would be too heavy, and cancelled my order. So happy that I reordered it with the Nikon case, which is very convenient, light, and most of all the camera fits perfectly.
Have taken many photos of the moon and nature, works great. Much better than my Nikon P900, which is still a go to device. Would recommend this very highly. Thanks, B&H.

Love this camera! I love the fact that I don't ever have to change the lens, it's always there and all I need.
I wish the manual gave a little more details but so far I have been able to figure out most of it.

Over the past couple of weeks I have had little time to use the new Camera. The time I have spent continues to amaze me. This camera is magnificent. It does take some time to adjust to the size but the picture quality is excellent, the zoom capability is fantastic. Best all around camera on the market.

The P1000 was my tenth Nikon camera purchase in 17 years, D750 was my prior purchase for myself (a P900 for my sister for last Christmas). My P1000 was my Christmas this year; it was 1/5 the cost of telephoto lens for my D750, and it reaches further. IT MEETS ITS SPECS A-ONE, but Im still exploring it. The built-on lens gives it the same weight feel as my D750 with a telephoto lens, both feel much heavier than my D5500 (my quick go to, shoot now camera). The lens on the P1000 is fantastic for getting into the subject up close. The further you reach with the P1000 lens, the more the need to be stabilized (either by propping or by tripod) to get a clearer image to the sensor. Menu system is different, but thorough once you learn it and its approach to your options in the P1000. Battery charging in the camera is something I dont like; solved by buying a separate charger for doing that function. Wireless is available, but uses the battery so I put my SD card directly in my laptop to save on battery. Love being able to get both RAW and JPG images while shooting; JPG to look at, show, quickly print, if needed; RAW to work with later if desired. The weight surprised me, but definitely worth it for its image reach. Only desired featured not present was a 24M sensor (like a D750/D5500). I still have to learn how to better reach distance images to correct size them on sensor, but that will come with use/experience gained.
