$864.00 $1,183.68

The 1.3 lb Gitzo 2-Way Fluid Head is ideal for bird photography, digiscoping, and video, and because of its built-in fluid cartridges, it provides a very smooth 360° pan and lateral tilt of -60°/+90°. The spring-loaded counter balance system maintains balance with a fixed drag, but tension can be dialed-in for more resistance. The head can support cameras and spotting scopes that weight up to 13.2 lb, and each axis locks down with its own independent locking knob. The 2.2" tall head is Arca-type compatible, and it includes a rubberized quick release plate with a standard 1/4"-20 male thread and a removable panning bar.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit on a Gitzo 2545T tripod and will it be able to hold a Leica Televid spotting scope with digiscope and SL2 camera?

A: Yes, the Gitzo 2545T tripod and the fluid head will hold your setup with ease.

Q: 2. Will this head be compatible with the Benro GC168T GoTravel Carbon Fiber Tripod?

A: I believe so, but I am not 100%. I bought a refurbished Gitzo Mountaineer tripod with this mount and the two work perfectly. Wish I read more about this mount as it is not the best for DSLR cameras, but great for binoculars.

Q: 3. What is the best Gitzo travel tripod for this head? Heaviest use will be Nikon D850 and 80-400 lens.

A: The Gitzo GIGT0545T Traveler Series 0 Carbon Fiber Tripod will be the best tripod for your setup. This tripod holds up to 22 pounds.

Q: 4. Will this head fit on Peak Design Tripod? Thanks in advance.

A: No. The following unit offers a integrated ball head that can not be removed.

Q: 5. Do I need a different plate for the Swarovski ATX 95mm?

A: No plate is needed. The ATX 95mm scope has a built in Arca foot so you will not even use the plate that comes with this Gitzo head (unless you want to use the head with a camera).

Q: 6. Will this head fit onto the Gitzo Systematic Series 5 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Arca-Type Series 4 Center Ball Head (BH #GIGK5543LS83 MFR #GK5543LS-83LR)?

A: If you remove the Gitzo GIGH4383LR Series 4 Center Ball Head from the top of the Gitzo Systematic Series 5 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Arca-Type Series 4 Center Ball Head with Lever Release, then yes, you may connect the Gitzo Gimbal Fluid Head to the top of the Gitzo Systematic Series 5 Carbon Fiber Tripod.

Q: 7. Is the "Arca-type" QR plate/clamp really dimensionally compatible with the Arca-Swiss QR standard? Many QR products claim to be "Arca- compatible", only to find out that they are not dimensionally compatible, but are just the same basic style.

A: The clamp on the Gitzo Gimbal Fluid Head is really compatible with the Arca-Swiss quick release standard.

Q: 8. Will this work/fit on a Gitzo GIGT0545T Traveler Series 0 tripod?

A: Yes it will work.

Q: 9. Would it be possible to "perfectly" balance a 80D with EF 50mm f1.4 so that I can point the camera at any direction, at any tilt angle and the camera would stay absolutely "stationary" at the pointed direction?

A: Yes the 80D with the EF 50 f/1.4 can easily be balanced on this fluid head.

Q: 10. How wide is the head from pan knob to handle lock knob?

A: 6 inches

The head is very smooth, very precise. I have mounted my 85mm spotting scope onto the mount and find the it superb. I can identify no cons to the product.

I use the head to attach a Baader Vario 10x60 finder to use it as a spotting scope. The head is so light, has a full range of very smooth motion, and the clamping is very firm when using a heavy eyepiece. Just tighten up the clamp and the balance issue is solved but it still moves smoothly. I can't think of anything not great about it.

This is an awesome product. I not only hunt big game animals in the west, which requires long range spotting, but also guide hunters to these same animals. Having a great spotting scope, as well as an efficient tri-pod that is smooth and easy-to-use head is critical. I found this product to deliver excellent results on a recent guiding trip. I am more than satisfied with this product and would highly recommend this product to hunters, bird watchers, camera buffs and the like. You won't be sorry.

I'm still amazed at how cheap this was ($260 at this writing). It's a Gitzo product no doubt about that. This is a marked improvement over the previous version that used the proprietary Gitzo plates.

I had no problem locking it down. Sure you can get it to move if you have leverage and force it. But in the real world it is not an issue for me.

Great thing is it takes standard Arca type plates, which is hard to find in a fluid head. I'm using it on a Gitzo Leveling tripod. It's a great match for that. I'm going to buy another for my RRS ground pod for use with spotting scopes.

The GH1720QR is really good, easy to use with easy and smoothness of movement, especially when penning. It is strong and light. I am able to use it with heavy lenses such as Nikon 300 mm VR f/1.4 and the Nikon fieldscope 85mm VR. It can be used with any tripod.
