Ortho Litho 3.0 from Arista is a line and halftone camera film designed for pre-press applications. As a high-contrast film, it is characterized by a very steep gradation and gradation tone, along with a wide density range with high Dmax and low Dmin values for enhanced UV transmission. For halftone, high-contrast applications, rapid access processing in ACD chemistry, such as Majestic 650, is recommended; for continuous tone use, diluted B&W paper developers are recommended for lower contrast results.

For easy handling of the film, the emulsion incorporates a dedicated layer to prevent Newton rings, as well as separate anti-static and anti-stress layers to protect against dust, scratches, and other damage. Additionally, it can be handled and processed under a red safe light.

This item is one box of 25 sheets of 11 x 14" film.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Why is Artista Orth Litho 3.0 not designed to use in conventional film holders; is it a print film or negative film? Please illuminate for me. Thanks.

A: Actually Arista 4x5 Lith film is too large to fit in 4x5 film holders, yes I know that sounds oxymoronic. This film is meant for line cameras and so they don't use traditional film holders. Bottom line, the film would have to be trimmed a bit.

Q: 2. Can this film be used as direct duplicating film to make an internegative? Looking for film to use in an enlarger to go from 6x6 120 to an 8x10 negative for contact printing processes. Thanks!

A: This film is not designed for that. It would not work for your application.

Q: 3. So I can’t load it to 4x5 sheet film holder then how do I use it ?

A: The Arista Ortho Litho 3.0 Film is a type of high contrast production film. If one would trim the film down, it would be possible to fit it into a 4x5 holder. Paying attention to what side the emulsion is, can definitely be a challenge. This type of film would be used for contact reproduction rather than regular photography.

Q: 4. Hi, is this trimmed for use in 4X5 film holders?

A: It is sized as standard 4x5 film for film holders.

Q: 5. Can I reproduce Panchromatic Prints with this? or will it yield an Orthochromatic image?

A: The Bergger PrintFilm Continuous Tone Black and White Lab Film (4 x 5", 50 Sheets) can be used to make regular prints.

Q: 6. expiry date?

A: B&H buys and sells film in bulk. In general we regularly maintain fresh film stock. All of our film is at least 6 months from expiration (typically much longer). Anytime film stock is less than 6 months from expiration we sell it in a separate section and label it as short-dated film and also price it with a slight discount (again due to the volumes we sell this rarely occurs). Unfortunately we do not have access to our inventory to hand inspect the expiration date of any of our films prior to purchase.

Q: 7. The 4x5 size says it doesn’t fit in normal film holders. Is that a problem for 8x10 as well?

A: Yes, it is the same with the 8x10 film--it's slightly too big for most film holders and will need to be trimmed a bit.

Q: 8. Description says 100 sheets but the graphic says 10. Which is it?

A: This would be 100 sheets of film.

Q: 9. Can this film be used as direct duplicating film to create internegatives? Interested in film to be used in an enlarger to go from 6x6 to 8x10 negative for use in contact printing processes. Thanks!

A: The film is really for Line art. This is a good link about the film, https://bit.ly/3vpOeCk

Q: 10. Will this film fit in a 4x5 film holder? I would like to use it in my Speed Graphic.

A: Yes, the Bergger PrintFilm Continuous Tone Black and White Lab Film (4 x 5", 50 Sheets), BH #BEPF4550 will fit in a 4x5" Film Holder such as the CatLABS 4x5" Film Holder Pair (Refurbished), BH #CA4X5FH2. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1552520-REG/catlabs_4x5fh2_4x5_film_holders_pair.html

Litho film; for darkroom laboratory work. As expected this is a high contrast film. This is an orthocromatic film, and as such can be handled with red safety light for darkroom. This emulsion can also provide mid-gray depending on the exposure and the chemical process. We have used it to make some enlargements from 35mm and medium format black and white negatives with good end results

If you are wanting to use this with 4x5 holders buy the 3.9x4.9 version!

Once you dial in your process for this film the results are great. I've shot 1000's of this sheets in camera and continue to do so as my main film. Can be handled and developed under safelight.

I develop it in HC110 (since I have that already, anyways) and being able to do that under red light in the open while watching is just great! It also is great to load film cassettes under red light, a great practice for the real deal (panchromatic film).

I always make sure to refill in time so that I have at least 50 sheets left.

It takes a little bit of experimenting to get the feel of the film, but it's lovely. I like my images a little higher contrast, and this is perfect. Partnered with the right processing, it gives great tones and a lovely strong range. It's become my favourite film for large format. Love that you can tray process under red light, too easy!

I have shots thousands of sheets of this stuff and will continue to do so. It takes a bit of time to nail down a process to get the most out of this film stock but once you do smooth tonal gradation is very possible. I use this primarily for portraiture both in natural light and studio conditions.
