Tiffen Graduated Nd Attenuator/blender Filter (43mm, 2-stop)

$180.00 $235.80

This 2-stop, 43mm Graduated Neutral Density Attenuator/Blender Filter from Tiffen is densest at one edge where it corresponds to a reduction of light entering a lens by 2 stops and tapers to clear at the other edge. Its gradation can be used to selectively darken an image from edge to edge, allowing for wider apertures or reduced shutter speeds. While this graduated attenuator/blender's 0.6 density can be applied to bright skies, the remaining regions of the image are exposed with a progressively decreasing effect.

This filter is constructed using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting to precision metal rings.

I bought this for car rig shots so I can do them earlier in the daytime. The ND filter works great. I do however wish I got the stronger one, 0.8 instead of the 0.6. But in conjunction with a circular polorizer the 0.6 is sufficent. This thing is very heavy and very well made. It doesn't get stuck to filters that are under it which is a plus.

I use this filter for a slow flowing water affect in high country streams. It works beautifully. The colors come through very nicely and the objects in sharp focus that are not moving come through tack sharp. I can easily say that I would purchase this filter again as I have already purchased one for my wife's kit.

I have never been a major fan of filters, since I bought a UV filter some time ago and it gave me softer than expected results. I was after the benefit of a ND Filter for flash sync speeds. After much reading, and more than a little hesitation, I decided to try the B+W filters. I'm glad I did. Perfect quality optics that don't make an expensive lens look overly soft. The brass ring is well constructed, but I still have difficulties screwing it on in a hurry (I'm blaming me, not the filter).

I used this in Yosemite to get a slower shudder speed on rivers and waterfalls.

I shoot weddings and outdoor events and the filter was perfect on a bright sunny day in front of the LDS Temple in Maryland, where it was reflecting. Also, at the Jefferson Memorial during the Cherry Blossom Festival. Got great pictures! Doesn't distort in any way and more powerful than a CP filter.

It does what it's supposed to by being a sunglass for your lens. B&H says it's only a Multi Coated (MC) filter, but I received a Multi Resistant Coated (MRC) filter. They're more rugged and the glass part of the filter is actually harder than regular glass... so more resistant towards scratches. I use the filter itself when it's bright outside and I want to use a f/1.4 or f/1.2 glass to get the thin depth of field they can produce. Sometimes, it may be too bright outside, so I cannot get a fast enough shutter speed to avoid an overexposed picture. That's what a Neutral Density filter is for. Check the ND number to see which filter you need.

I used this filter to show motion in water and control depth of field and shutter speed. I found this to be a very good filter; easy to put on and take off.
