The Tiffen 4 x 4" Blue 1 Soft Edge Graduated Filter is a soft-edged graduated color filter providing a bluish color across the image, giving a cooling effect for your photographs. The graduated filter design keeps a portion of the image neutral, resulting in a more realistic look while allowing for the sky or other bright areas to take on the color of the density. The 1 density provides less of a blue cast than the 2 density filter.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 4 x 4" / 101.6 x 101.6mm.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. fit AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm?

A: Michael, Thanks for the question! If we are examining the correct lens described above, yes, that lens will accept 77mm sized filters.

Q: 2. Does it have outside thread ?

A: The filter has front threading for stacking filters or using a lens cap.

Q: 3. Will this work with Nikkor 18-55mm and Nikkor 55-300 mm lenses?

A: This filter will be compatible with the 18-55 Nikon lens, however the 55-300mm lens has a 58mm filter thread.

Q: 4. Will this work on a Sigma 100-400?

A: The Tiffen 67mm Circular Polarizing Filter is compatible with the Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens.

Q: 5. From the picture shown it is hard to make out if this is multi coated ... a) Is this multi-coated?b) Is a multi coated circular polarizer necessary if stacked on a multicoated UV filter?

A: a) No, it is not a multi-coated filter. Tiffen does make a Digital HT line that is multi-coated.b) Yes and no. Multi-coated filters benefit from water repellency, scratch resistance, and reduction of solar flair. If the non-multi coated filter is on top of a multi-coated filter, then the top lens will be be susceptible to water smear and scratches, but the stack-up will benefit from solar flair reduction. I would install the UV multi-coated filter over the top of the circular polarizing filter.I hope this helped. I also encourage you to continue your research to ensure best possible information.

Q: 6. Is the front of this filter threaded so that another filter could be attached to the front of it?

A: Yes

Q: 7. I see there's lots of ND options for this. What will be a good recommendation for a first horizon ND filter, let's say for the sea shore and landscapes (Horseshoe Bend in Page AZ)? Thanks.

A: Most of the photos of Horseshoe Bend feature an area of landscape where there is a straight horizon without trees, mountains, or buildings between the bright sky above and the rock formation below. As such, a very hard edge filter attenuating the sky's light by three stops (0.9 ND) such as the LEE Filters 100 x 150mm Very Hard Graduated Neutral Density 0.9 Filter (B&H# LEGND.9VH46) would be ideal for that: https://bhpho.to/3tSwgZs

Q: 8. Can I put a lens hood over the filter?

A: Sure. Some dedicated lens hoods attach to the lens behind and over the filter. Some lens hoods attach via the filter thread, in which case this filter has a front thread for additional attachments too. Please note that it may be difficult with some hoods to reach the filter to rotate the polarizing filter.

Q: 9. Please tell me how thick the filter ring is, i.e., what is the added length when mounted to a lens?

A: The B+W MRC Basic #702 25% Graduated 0.6 ND Filter (62mm) has a standard thickness of 2mm.

Q: 10. Can I stack 2 of these filters on the back of the lens? Thanks.

A: Unfortunately, most lenses with a rear slot only have enough space for a single filter, therefore they could not be stacked.
