The My Passport Ultra 4TB drive works perfectly as an image file backup on my Mac. It mounts quickly and stores 70 MB RAW image files at up to approximately 110 MB/sec when connected via USB-C to an iMac It's a very quiet drive and the metal-clad case runs completely cool, even during long periods of operation. Hopefully it will continue to work reliable for many years Power consumption (bus powered) is 216 mA when connected but not mounted, 318 mA mounted at idle, and 690-750 mA during data read/write operation at a bus voltage of 5.07V. I have not used the supplied bloatware which requires on-line registration and download of instruction manuals. Since the function and features of the included applications was not provided with the drive, I deleted it all and re-formatted when I first installed the drive. 5

I have been using WD Passport drive since they started at 500gb and the newest is now 5TB in the Ultra line. The unit comes with one cable USB-C, but they use a nice little adapter for USB-A that plugs one. The drive is fast for a unit that has no power supply. There is WS Security software that will encrypt all your files and keep everything safe. I have not had one of these go back unlike Seagate which is why I keep buying WD. Get a little padded case cheap on Amazon and you can take this drive with you anywhere. Great drive, get one you won't be sorry. 5

Drive preformatted as HFS+. Automatically recognized by Mac. No trouble to setup as a Mac Catalina Time machine backup drive. Supplied cable is long. 5

If your searching for the best storage device goes for it. But your main goal is, you have huge data means this is the better choice for you with a 130MB/s read and write speed, whereas you have a small amount of data but speed is the main means you opt for SSD from Sandisk or WD which gives a maximum speed of 850MB/s read and write speed. And I have to say about the best 256-AES security which is good with the large storage capacity. I conclude by saying that this best for each penny you spend. CAUTION: If you are ordering from outside, the USA means aware of the duty amount charged by the customs in your country. 5

I purchased this version of WD's Passport because it came with a USB-C plug with I needed for it to connect with my new iMac without an adapter. Initially there some problems with the formatting but this is now resolved and it works fine. 5
