The 32" OC-OSB80 Octa Softbox from Raya is an 8-sided light modifier supported by aluminum flexrods which are attached to the separately purchased Octa Fluorescent 7 fixture.

The softbox features a highly reflective pebbled interior and a removable front face that attaches with simple touch-fasteners. It also has a detachable interior clip-on diffuser for additional soft light if desired. In use, it renders the signature wrap-around look that the modifier's shape is well known for, as well as natural circular catch-lights in your subjects eyes. This softbox is made to be used with the OC-OF7 Fluorescent 7 fixture and fluorescent lamps only.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the light level be adjusted, or is it always on ?

A: The Raya Octa Fluorescent 7-Socket Fixture has dual rocker switches on their back panels, each of which control on/off function for 3 or 4 lamps allowing the creation of a light ratio. You can either turn one switch on to use 3 lamps, the other switch to use 4 lamps, or both switches to use all 7 lamps at once.

Q: 2. Is there a recommended grid that will cover the softbox?

A: Unfortunately, there is no grid available to fit the Raya Octa Soft Box for Octa Fluorescent 7 which is included in this kit.

Q: 3. Can this be used for flat lays?

A: Yes this light kit can be used to shoot flat lays.

Q: 4. Is there a max wattage rating? per socket? total wattage? Are the sockets plastic or ceramic/porcelain? Will it accommodate a mix of different wattage bulbs?

A: The total wattage the light fixture is rated for is 350 watts in fluorescent bulbs. The sockets are plastic not ceramic.

Q: 5. Is there a max wattage rating? per socket? total wattage? Are the sockets plastic or ceramic/porcelain? Will it accommodate a mix of different wattage bulbs?

A: No wattage rating is specified. The sockets are plastic. I wouldn't put anything but CFL's in them. The soft box would overheat if you use photo floods..

Q: 6. Can this be used as continuous lighting for videography purposes?

A: From a customer stand point, I have enjoyed using the Octa Fluorescent 7- socket 2 light softbox kit due to the features of using the full spectrum of lighting or cutting back half depending on my level of light needed for photography sessions. There was no change in lighting temperature during usage and it gives a nice overall lighting even if used for videography.

Q: 7. I was thinking of purchasing this to use on location outdoors. What is the most affordable portable power supply that you would recommend to use with this?

A: While a gas-powered generator would most likely be the best option for your needs with continuous lights, if you are looking for a rechargeable battery option for your location shooting needs, I would recommend either the GOAL ZEROYeti 1250 Solar Generator Power PackKit, B&H #GOGZ31901, which should give you approximately 6.6 hours of run time, or the GOAL ZEROYeti 400 Solar Generator Power Pack, B&H #GOGZ23000, should give you approximately slightly over 2 hours run time.

Q: 8. Does it have any side access when mounted? Velcro? Zipper?

A: This box does not have side access.

Q: 9. Can someone tell me the output of these lights in lumens or lux at 1 meter?

A: According to the manufacturer, when using the Raya Octa Fluorescent 7-Socket Fixture 1-Light Softbox Kit, using the included Eiko 26-watt bulbs, inner baffle, and diffuser would be 678 lux @1 meter (3.3 feet). The CCT color temperature is 5,061K, with color accuracy measurements listed as CRI 87.6 and TCLI of 70. Unfortunately, they did not have a lumens measurement for this light fixture setup.

Q: 10. What 50 Watt CLF bulb can be used with this fixture? The Overview says it can handle 7 50 Watt CLF.

A: I have so far replaced one CFL bulb and found the matching 5000 Kelvin temp rating for it. Because of the heat output of the 7 lamps in the confined space of the light I would not exceed the total 350W rating of any combined bulbs, unless for brief periods, only - or in cold environments.
