$149.97 $208.46

The Tiffen 67mm Center Spot Filter is a softening filter that allows you to maintain sharp, clear focus in the center of the image while blurring the perimeter of the frame. This helps to isolate your central subject matter while softening the surrounding areas.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is a graduated neutral density filter?Does the filter rotate? By this I mean, can I rotate the filter to high light certain areas?

A: A graduated neutral-density filter is an optical filter that has a variable light transmission. Typically half of the filter is of neutral density which transitions, either abruptly or gradually, into the other half which is clear. It is used to bring an overly-bright part of a scene into the dynamic range of film or sensor. For example, it can be used to darken a bright sky so that both the sky and subject can be properly exposed. There are typically two types of graduated ND filters, which are hard edge and soft edge. This particular Tiffen Graduated 0.6 ND filter is a feathered graduated ND filter, which means that there is a natural-appearing taper between the density and clear areas of the filter. This filter does not rotate.

Q: 2. Hi I just purchased this and there is no magnetic adapter ring included and the filter itself is not magnetic and will not magnetically attach to my freewell magnetic base. I am confused. Can you explain?

A: The Freewell 82mm UV Filter BH #FRFW82UV UV doesn't come with an additional magnetic ring. The UV filter functions as a magnetic lens adapter ring that allows non-UV Freewell magnetic quick-swap filters to be used on a lens with 82mm front filter threads. Its rear-threaded filter ring allows for the convenient installation or removal of non-UV Freewell magnetic quick-swap filters.

Q: 3. How many stops of light does this cut from the frame?

A: 1/3 stop of light loss

Q: 4. If I use a warming filter on a bright sunny day will it affect the colors?

A: Yes Tiffen 67mm 812 Warming Filter will affect the colors in a bright sunny day. You may need to set the white balance of the camera to custom before using the filter though.

Q: 5. I have a Polarizer filter , do I need a Graduated HD filter for high contrast photos?

A: The graduated HD filter is often used to mitigate bright sky against a darker landscape. I sometimes use it in other orientations to cut down bright areas of photo I am taking - imagine taking a photo of a dark building where the bright area has a vertical orientation on the left or right, or taking a photo through a door or similar portal. On the other hand, while a polarizer might provide some general overall brightness reduction, it is generally used to emphasize darker areas that are located at right angles to the light source (such as darkening sky against the clouds in a band 90 degrees from the sun), or to eliminate or reduce glare from reflected light - light reflected from smooth surfaces is highly polarized, light reflected from rough surfaces, such as the ocean, is rather scattered and the glare can be only minimally reduced by a polarizer. So the functions are different, and the graduated filter reduces the contrast (although I guess it could be used to exaggerate the contrast) whereas the polarizer is often used to enhance contrast.

Q: 6. does it have HT coating on lens?

A: This filter is not coated.

Q: 7. Would it make sense to use these filters on a digital camera shooting in B&W mode? I experimented holding up a red filter from my old B&W film days on a Sony pocket camera and the results looked promising. Now I have a Canon SX50HS and would like to get screw-on filters but think when I learn how to use it better there may be a way to filter it internally. Would a polarizer do basically the same thing?

A: While it is entirely possible to use these filters with a DSLR in b+w mode, it will not be the same as shooting black and white film, as a digital camera shoots in RGB and then converts to a black and white profile. If you do choose to use these filters with a DSLR shooting in black and white, you will need to set a custom white balance as well, as the camera will see the green/red/yellow and try to correct for them in auto white balance or other preset white balance modes. Additionally, another option you can try is to shoot your images in RGB mode, and then in post production, particularly in Adobe Photoshop, add a B&W layer or a Channel Mixer layer to obtain a more accurate black and white image. A circular polarizer will work as well.

Q: 8. is this a variable filter?

A: No, the Tiffen 67mm 6pt/2mm Grid Star Effect Filter is not a variable neutral density filter. The Tiffen 67mm 6pt/2mm Grid Star Effect Filter is designed to create multiple stars that appear to streak outward from the center of bright light sources in your scene. It does not vary the density of light entering the camera and cannot be adjusted, though you may rotate the filter to rotate the direction of the stars that are created by the filter.

Q: 9. This filter is very loose (cannot fully tighten, keep rotating) when stacked on top of a B+W XS-Pro 67mm filter... Faulty unit? XS-Pro 67mm diameter slightly wider than TIffen 67mm?

A: I believe this filter is meant to be loose so that it can be easily turned to get the gradation to hit your photograph in the perfect position. Mine is loose as well and works well. It's my favorite filter!

Q: 10. Does this fit on a 35mm sigma lens?

A: Yes, these Close Up filters will work on your Sigma lens. First you need to determine the filter size on your Sigma lens then purchase the Close up filter size to match. For example, if you lens has a 58 mm filter then buy the 58 mm close up filter. My lens has a 67 mm filter size, that's why I purchased the 67 mm close up filter.

I use this Filter for Senior pictures, and creats the images as described. I like the fact the you can get the filter and the adapter ring all under fifty dollars, which is good for photographer that just want one filter. The only aspect the irritated me was that you have to play around with the filter holder to get the softness around the image, but other than that, this filter is great!
