Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I'm using a Sony FS7 with the Zeiss LWZ.3 21-100mm. How can i adjust the mattebox on the rod to make sure it will fit my front lens (114mm). I don't see anything to adjust the heigh of the mattebox?

A: The MM4 mattebox does not have a height adjustment. With the correct step down ring (130mm to 114mm MOV-301-02-004-108C), the mattebox can clamp directly onto the front of the lens. Using the Movcam FS7 / FS7 II baseplate and riser would allow for cinema standard height alignment if you choose to go a different route for your camera support.

Q: 2. How much does it weigh?

A: It weighs around 1.20lb including one 4x4" and one 4x5.65" filter trays but without filters inserted and without flaps attached.

Q: 3. Will this fit (i.e., clear the overhead handle/built-in mic section) the Panasonic AG-UX180 camera?

A: We feel that the low overhanging mic on that camera could be a potential issue, but there should be enough room if you insert the rotating filter tray from the bottom instead of the top. Also, you will need a support system to use the Matte Box with the UX180. B&H number CARS15IIMQRB is a baseplate set up that has the Matte Box holder included.https://bhpho.to/2j2qjoF

Q: 4. May I use this matte box with the Zunow WCX-80 wide angle lens on a Sony FDR AX-100 camera with no vignetting? Thanks

A: This combination is unknown and the answer would only come from testing the components together. Having said that, we feel that the camera with its lens at the widest mm setting plus wearing the Zunow most likely will cause vignetting with the matte box. The vignetting should go away if you zoom in slightly.

Q: 5. What is the widest focal length lens that can be used with super35mm format? How much does this MB weigh?

A: Generally speaking, matte boxes will accept 18mm and above in Super35 and 24mm and above in Full Frame. Specific combinations of wider lenses, camera and matte box would have to be tested.

Q: 6. Is there a 4x4 filter holder that works with this mattebox?

A: The unit comes with combination 4x4/4x5.650 filter holder. However if you want 4x4 only then you will need item 301-0201-13

Q: 7. can I put a c100 and zeiss cp2 lens on this?

A: No, you Can't because the Front Lens Diameter of Zeiss have 134mm and the Matte Box have 80mm.

Q: 8. Is this also compatible with the Panasonic AG-UX180 camera?

A: We do not recommend this system for a Camcorder the size of the UX180. This system is designed to work with DSLR cameras and lenses, which may have a smaller outer diameter. While the lens on the UX180 does not have a large filter thread, the outer diameter of it is what you need to watch out for. In our opinion the Redrock Micro microMatteBox Deluxe Bundle with a 142mm Lens Opening is a safer bet. You would just need a Baseplate system to go along with it.https://bhpho.to/2cdsxgxhttps://bhpho.to/2ejXTXc

Q: 9. Are 3” by 3” the only filters able to use

A: That is correct. This matte box only works with 3 x 3" filters.

Q: 10. Can it fit on DSLR's?

A: Hi JoseIt depends on the lens / sensor combination you chose to use. My configuration works just fine; Sigma 17-50 2.8 zoom on Canon 60D (APC sensor) Wider lenses will produce vignetting. Beware that the weight of the Mattebox can stress the lens if it is not sturdy enough - consider buying railmount? (zoom lenses often protrude when in use)
