Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. So I still have a question about quad link 3G-SDI.So if I need to receive the UHD signal (3840 x 2160) from HDMI output of my camera Sony a7SII to SDI I need to use four 3G-SDI cables (quad link 3G-SDI) but how I can input all four 3G-SDI cables into Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q+ (it's saying in specs that this recorder supports Single Link, Dual Link, Quad Link) if it has only 2 SDI inputs, can anyone explain me how quad link 3G-SDI is working? And what exact SDI cables I need to buy? Thank you?

A: The HA5-4K has a single HDMI 1.4 input, it does not have any SDI Inputs. Also, the 7Q+ can record 4K directly from HDMI. You would not need a converter to use the A7SII with the 7Q+.

Q: 2. Will this work with an external Thunderbolt 3 Expansion chassis?

A: Yes, The AJA Corvid 88 card is supported with the Sonnet Echo Express SE IIIe Thunderbolt 3 Expansion Chassis for PCIe Cards BH #SOECEXSE3ET3 The Sonnet SE IIIe supports MAC/WIN/Linux (If installing on a New Mac M1 platform please check with AJA support to see if an M1 Driver has been released for the Corvid 88)

Q: 3. Do you need HDMI 2.0 to be able to do 3840x2160 at 60 fps or this converter with HDMI 1.4 can do 3840x2160 at 60 fps ? I thought HDMI 1.4 maximum frame rate at 3840x2160 resolution was 30 fps.

A: You would need HDMI 2.0 for UHD at 60 fps, which this converter does support as well. So if you have a device that outputs HDMI 2.0, it will work with this converter.

Q: 4. Will this convert a 4k signal out of a Sony A7S II to work on a 1080p production monitor?

A: That one will not handle 4K. You could use this one. (Note: Special Order delay of 7-10 days) WyreStorm Express 4K Downscaler and HD Upscaler with Dolby Digital Downmixing B&H # WYEXPCON4KDD

Q: 5. Can it convert from SD up to 4k?

A: No

Q: 6. Does this converter take a 4k input and output that 4k signal to 4 different hd signals (ie top left, bottom left, top right, bottom right)?

A: The AJA HA5-4K 4K HDMI to 4K SDI Mini-Converter does not support split-screening.

Q: 7. Can this be used between a Sony A7R2 (4K HDMI) and the older model Convergent Design 7Q (dual 3G-SDI)?

A: Yes, this can be used. Make sure it can accept Quadlink 4K.

Q: 8. Trying to compare to BM 12x12 router. Does Kumo have reclocking on all SDI inputs? How loud is the fan? The BM is unbearable loud

A: The SDI connections will re-clock. This product is designed to allow you to assign any of the 16 SDI inputs to any of the 16 outputs. Because of that you should expect it to make some level of noise from the fan cooling it down.

Q: 9. Can this be used between Sony FS7 & FOR A - HVS 110 4 K switcher ? If so what is the maximum distance cable we can use for live switching ?

A: Sorry, can't help. I sent it back. I was using it between an X70 or A7s and Odyssey 7Q, and it got unreasonably hot in minutes.

Q: 10. Does this work with LiveStream Studio 6?

A: Not that we are aware of. AJA does not list Livestream Studio as compatible. It does however list both Wirecast and vMix.
