Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this Converter convert HDMI 1080p60 to SDI 1080i60?

A: I'm afraid not. This is a converter only, meaning it will only change the signal from HDMI to SDI. It does not do frame rate and resolution conversions as well. For that you would need to look at something like the DECIMATOR MD-HX Miniature HDMI/SDI Cross Converter with Scaling & Frame Rate Conversion, B&H # DEDDHX.https://bhpho.to/2fDbJBb

Q: 2. How many channels of audio does this support?

A: SHV+ supports "8 Channels for SDI Embedded Audio" and "2 channels for Ext. Audio out".

Q: 3. What size DC power connector does this come with? I’d like to get a USB to DC cable to use a battery with it.

A: The size of the power connection barrel is not listed, nor are we aware of a USB to DC power cable. However you could look in to using a Power Bank that has an AC outlet connection. The Xcellon 12,000mAh Power Bank with AC and USB Outlets would be a great choice to power this product on the go, B&H # XCPB1200AC. https://bhpho.to/2jX8gSA

Q: 4. With the SDI loop out be converted or will that be the same as the input signal? We need to convert SDI 25P to SDI 50i & HDMI 50i at the same time. Thanks

A: The SDI Loop Out will have the same signal as the input. It is best to use the Lumantek HDMI/SDI Cross Converter and Scaler for your scenario. Lumantek HDMI/SDI Cross Converter with Audio Mux/Demux and Scaler https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1445125-REG/lumantek_ez_md_hdmi_sdi_cross_converter_with.html

Q: 5. Does the converter cause any latency?

A: The Lumantek SDI to HDMI Converter with Display and Scaler will have a maximum of 2 frames of delay when converting to HDMI.

Q: 6. I can't get it to display anything but a grey stepped gradient going lighter to the left it also outputs in on HDMI despite the 1080p59.94 signal being detected. Tried everything and cannot get rid of the essentially colorless color bars. Anyone else have this happen? I've swapped out everything multiple times and my Decimator has no issue with the signal.

A: We recommend connecting with Lumantek support to have the EZ-SHV+ repaired.

Q: 7. Can this convert from one frame rate to another? And/or Progressive to interlaced?

A: Yes, Please refer to the following link to check the resolution. You can able to convert Progressive to Interlaced or Interlaced to Progressive. http://lumantek.com/index/product_view/62

Q: 8. The product dip switches are white over a dark background. The instructions are painted on the product white and dark. For example, 480i/59.94 is painted all white on top. The printed instructions for DIP Switch Settings are all black on the top. Which is correct? It's confusing.

A: I looked at both the Lumantek Unit and the manual and I see why you may be confused. On the orange case, solid white blocks mean on, framed boxes with orange showing through means off. In the manual, solid black boxes mean on, framed boxes with white showing through means off. Lay the manual next to the converter-on the back of the converter, the first 4 boxes are solid white in the up position for 480 AND the manual has the first 4 boxes as solid black in the up position for 480. So the rule of thumb is: Solid White boxes on the converter is the same as solid black boxes in the manual. I use 1080i59.94, so in my configuration, 1 is up, 2 and 3 are down and 4 is up. So that is 1, solid white, 2, boxed orange, 3, boxed orange and 4, solid white. In the manual, that would be 1, Solid black, 2, boxed black, 3, boxed black and 4, solid black. I hope that helps you.

Q: 9. Can this be powered via USB?

A: There aren't any USB powering options on the device; only a DC barrel input with a VDC AC Power Adapter that is included.

Q: 10. Could you feed this a 4K HDMI signal and convert to 1080 on the SDI side?

A: The Lumantek EZ-HSV+ HDMI to SDI Converter with Display and Scaler cannot process 4K.

Great little box once understood what it does NOT do. This should be called Decimator MD-LX HDMI/SDI Pass Through Converter. Replaces BMD Micro converters. Passes 2 channel audio, by default. Can be configured to pass 8 channel audio. Max Channels for HDMI. Cannot reassign audio channels, just pass them through. All connections are Active, also be default. Defaults to SMPTE Level A. Can be changed from software Control Panel. Download from Decimator website. Whatever signal comes in, stays same going out. Works up to 1080p60. All connections are active. LED Light on each end identifies Input. EX SDI Input or HDMI Input. See Legend on Device. Simple! Informal testing indicated audio is clear. No static! Better to own one of these than 1 each of BMD Micro Converters. Unless you need both at same time, this is still better. Works, out of the box. Can be Powered from USB to PC; USB to Outlet Adapter or... Battery! It's USB Powered! Nice touch! Fragile connection though in a rough environment. Can be Mounted by Micro Clamp to Light Stand. Or use Tether Tools StrapMoore. We use with our ATEM 4K Video Switch for SDI Multiview (SDI to HDMI Monitor) out to 2nd SDI Multiview (SDI to HDMI Monitor). Yes, requires 2 converters for that! And yes, we have the BMD Micro converters. Both of them! Hope this helps!
