Q: 1. How durable is this lense in weather like rain or dust?

A: I've had it out for Friday Night Lights through many light mist to pouring rain circumstances. I do use a Rain Sleeve & I've not had a problem. When It's been a great lens that pairs wonderfully with my Sony a9. When I get home, I do undo everything & let everything dry overnight. I do not keep it in my bag. When you're investing that much money, I tend to do a bit more to ensure it's worth

Q: 2. What is the best Sony or Sony Mount Lens to use on Sony A7iii cameras to copy 35mm and 120 negatives?

Q: 5. Got this and the macro is fine but it takes 4 - 6 SECONDS TO FOCUS on regular stills mode!!! This is even without altering the composition from one shot to the next, center focus, tripod. On video it takes 2 seconds for focus and the thing is noisy as a garbage truck. Anyone else have this problem or do I need to return this dog back to the pound?

A: Yes. Same problem. The lens hunts for focus even when i'm not shooting. Super slow to obtain focus. I bought it for the macro, but there is terrible pin cushioning there too. Send it back.

Q: 6. Zoom ring looser as it gets closer to 200mm ??

A: I have both the Canon and Sony 70-200 mm and they are about the same.It seems right to me.

Q: 7. Hello, With the correct set up ring, will this lens and an ES-1 Copy adapter allow me to digitize slides on my a7iii?

A: While this FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro Lens along with a step up ring and the Nikon ES-1 could work, it has been tested to confirm to our knowledge. The results may vary.

Q: 8. Is there a lens hood that can be used with this lens? I notice there is a inner and outer set of threads on the front of the lens. What is the diameter of the outer threads?

A: The filter thread size for this lens is 55mm. The recommended lens hood can be found here https://bhpho.to/2lZBpvf

Q: 9. Has the focus speed improved at all with firmware updates?

A: On the a7r I found it was quite slow to af compared to most modern lenses, and in low light at macro range lots of af hunting

Q: 10. how do I adjust the settings to increase the depth of focus?

A: I usually use this lens as a macro lens attached to two macro extensions. Shooting in manual mode I adjust the f stop - the higher the number the more field of depth becomes. Be careful of your shutter speed and the amount of light you have.

I’ve been shooting Sony since the A7r came out and I’ve owned several lenses (both GM and non). This is my first lens from Sony that is not a prime and I couldn’t be happier!
Super sharp images with great bokeh. If you read any reviews you know this lens is amazing. The real question if you are in the market is to get the f4 or jump up to the 2.8. For me, having the extra stop for lower light situations just made sense. I rented the f4 a few years ago for a trip to the Serengeti and had no complaints. For an all arounder, the extra spend made sense, to me.
It is a heavy piece of glass but image quantity, auto focus speed, and build quality makes it worth it.
It’s true, you get what you pay for, if you’re in the market for a best in class 70-200, you can’t go wrong here.

Switched from Canon to Sony about a year ago and gathering new lenses. This one is excellent and a must have from the GM collection.

Just spent the first weekend recording a scooter event with this lens. Very impressed with the auto focus while zoomed in & recording quick moving objects. A bit pricey, but am happy with the purchase so far. Well done, Sony!

The Sony 70-200mm GM f/2.8 fills so many needs in our photography. The lens is somewhat heavy but being for a full frame camera and with f/2.8 is expected. From time to time we photograph inside churches and this is the perfect lens for that. We use this on the Sony A7RIII. The images produced by this lens are astounding! As a side note: Thanks B&H for the ongoing excellent service!!

Other than the weight it is a superb lens and IQ wise compares well with the fixed focal length lenses I own.

Tried using my comparable Nikon lens with vello adapter. Very limited. This new lens is outstanding. Better than I expected. Quality, rapid response - very accurate.

Good decision.

The 70-200 GM is one big (and heavy lens).  That being said, in comparison with other GM lenses, not so much.  The images are really sharp and the focus capture and tracking is very smooth. This is actually a complicated lens and is probably the only one that I have actually read the directions to understand what the body controls are for. This is an expensive lens and not for penny pinchers, but the quality of the pictures is really worth the price.
