The 150 x 150mm Blackstone IRND 1.8 Filter from Wine Country Camera is an ND filter with a 64x filter factor that provides a 6-stop exposure reduction. Its 1.8 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing exposure time or increasing aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and to promote nearly flat attenuation of visible and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. To provide neutrality across the visible and infrared spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks, one layer of Blackstone ND Coating is applied to each of this filter's surfaces. The Blackstone ND Coating is also designed to help minimize any effect on a digital camera's resolution when using this filter.

This Wine Country Camera 150 x 150mm Blackstone IRND 1.8 Filter is constructed from Schott Ultra-White Glass for clarity as well as color fidelity and measures 2mm thick.

The Wine Country Camera 150 x 150mm Blackstone IRND 1.8 Filter is pre-installed within a Wine Country Camera 150 x 150mm Filter Vault, which is designed to encase the edges of a 150 x 150mm, 2mm thick filter for use within a separately available Wine Country Camera 150mm Filter Holder. By encasing the sides of an installed filter, this filter vault helps to eliminate stray light, which could have unwanted effects on exposure. Additionally, the Wine Country Camera 150 x 150mm Filter Vault reinforces an installed filter's rigidity while preventing its sides from having to come into direct contact with a filter holder's slots. This protects those side surfaces and promotes sharp results by ensuring that the filter remains flat.

Installation of a compatible filter is accomplished by first turning the Wine Country Camera 150 x 150mm Filter Vault's brass Wine Coin lock into the open position. Located along the front of the filter vault's inner and outer top edges, the Wine Coin is a flat disk cam lock that features a straight edge on one side and a rounded edge on the other. When the lock's straight edge is aligned with the filter vault's inner edge, a 150 x 150mm, 2mm thick filter can be set within the front of the filter vault. The Wine Coin can then be turned so that its rounded edge obstructs the installed filter, securing it within the filter vault.

A separately available Wine Country Camera 150mm Filter Holder includes a dedicated inner slot for this 150 x 150mm filter vault. That slot allows a Wine Country Camera 150 x 150mm Filter Vault to be instantly switched with an identical filter vault that may contain a different filter needed for other subjects or changing lighting conditions. If used with the Wine Country Camera 150mm Filter Holder's outer slot that can accommodate a Wine Country Camera filter vault up to 150 x 170mm in size, an integrated safety-catch system prevents this 150 x 150mm filter vault from accidentally sliding out of the filter holder.

Q: 1. Is this a thin filter for use with a wide angle lens?

A: This is not classified as a thin filter.

Q: 2. Is this compatible with LEE Filters SW150 Mark II Filter System Holder for Wide-Angle Lenses?

A: The NiSi 150 x 150mm Natural Night Light Pollution Filter is compatible with the LEE Filters SW150 Mark II Filter System Holder for Wide-Angle Lenses.

Q: 3. Hello,I am not sure about this square filter - is it necessary filter to be rotated as we use round circular polarizer filters?Or this filter stays still in horizontal position only?Thank you.Best regards,Rado

A: Yes, a square circular polarizing filter will still need to be rotated just like a round one. To rotate this filter, you will need a specialized matte box that has a rotating filter stage. The 6 x 6 Universal Matte Box Package from Cavision: http://bhpho.to/JYrd2j

Q: 4. Is it me or is the textprinted on the wrong (back) side of the filter? Circular pols only work one direction (not an issue when its in a threaded mount but this is reversible) and when I use this one in the correct way the writing on the glass faces the back. Anyone else notice this?

A: The word text u mean the numbers written on the filter. Stil i didnt notice it but its working perfectly for me. I dont think its printing mistake

Q: 5. Is this a single coated or non-coated filter?

A: The filter is single coated.

Q: 6. I would assume that when placing an order for these filters, the same sizing rules apply as with the UV Filters... is that correct? Do you also look at the inside/reverse side of your lens caps? Both lens caps for my Canon 18-55 mm and my Canon Zoom (75-300mm) lens Cap say they are 58mm... so I need to order 2 x 58mm UV Filters, correct?

A: That would be correct. The sizing for the ND filters (filter thread) would be the same as that for UV filters. If the reverse side of your lens caps say 58mm, then you would need to order the 58mm ND filter.

Q: 7. Is this filter stackable?

A: Yes, you could stack this filter.

Q: 8. This filter does not seem to be coated to reduce flares and ghosting. Has anybody had these issue flare up?

A: I purchased one of these filters about a year ago and have found it excellent my my uses. I haven't had any issues with ghosting /flaring. I think this shade of filter is ideal, I often use it in combination with a circular polariser also from B&W on a Canon 16-35mmf4L for seascapes in relatively bright light. If you are going to combine filters make sure to get some plastic filter wrenches as they can bind.together a bit

Q: 9. Does it help when u shoot early morning

A: The NiSi 150 x 150mm Natural-Night Filter is designed to reduce the appearance of light pollution in images or video that include the night sky and illumination from artificial light sources, is not designed to be used for natural light unless the natural light is jammed with a lot of artificial light sources.

Q: 10. What does it means that this filter " designed for lenses with focal lengths of 70mm or less. " Is ther any harm in using it with long telephoto lenses? Will it harm the image quality?

A: Anything above 70mm we don't recommend using the Circular Polarizer because you may not be able to achieve focus.

Very pleased with this filter. With the 1.8 I can take my lens to f/2.8 at super bright clear sky at noon. I do video so I'm not messing with the shutter speeds much - I will say the 1.8 is helpful if you are shooting 24fps @ 1/50 in those same daylight conditions.

I will be getting the .9 as well - I find that the 1.8 is only effective at the brightest conditions. If a cloud pops over, I'm having to dial up the ISO to compensate because it's so dense.

Another excellent B&W product. Brass ring, no color cast. Works as expected.

6 stops allows for beautiful effect, yet allows you to still compose the shot through the viewfinder. Anything more and you will probably have to remove it to focuse and compose, then re-install it for the shot. Well made, clean threads, and front threads allow for stacking other filters, such as a polarizer.

Seems to work just excellent so far. Significant red-shift is annoying, but easily fixed post-processing.

Fantastic ND filter for the price. Withstood a week-long trek in Iceland and performed admirably. Recommend adding to your toolkit for those who don't want to drop too much money on filters.

I purchased this ND filter , and a 10 stop one, to use in an older Canon FD 300mm f/2.8 lens.  The filter is thin enough, that once screwed into the frame, it will easily slide into the lens.  No color shift from what I can tell.  The screw in frames are hard to find, but so much better than a gelatin.  Gelatin is hard to find in such heavy ND, and was not needed in the days before Mirror-less or DSLR video work.  The filter definitely is a good buy.
