The 24-channel 88C-24 Series 88 Analog Recording Console with Meter Bridge from Trident Audio is a classically styled, in-line, eight-bus analog console that is artfully constructed for ease of use and workhorse reliability for recording applications. It is designed to fit the modern, high-end facility—whether private, institutional, or professional.

Along with the familiar routing and feel of a classic Trident desk, are the modern refinements that serve to improve functionality, workflow, and performance specifications. For example, integration with outboard processors and mic pre's like the 500 format, is provided by means of a switchable input. This bypasses the channel preamp circuitry and allows for insertion of external signal sources directly to the channel equalizer.

The Trident's equalization is plentiful. It is available on the channel, monitor, effects returns, and group sections. Other features include: options for VU metering, transformer I/O, automation, short loading, and channel configurations exceeding 40 inputs. In addition, features found throughout the 88 console makes for a straightforward and powerful sound. With many styles, preferences, and methods of recording, this board can be pushed hard.

With 27 dB of headroom, the 88 console is built to be pushed hard and to sound huge. This is a feature found in the series 80 consoles and the 88 carries that tradition forward. Finally, the 88C-24 Series 88 Analog Recording Console with Meter Bridge was created with all of this in mind, so that you can use it to make great sounding tracks.

The Trident 88 is built from the ground up to be a rugged and reliable console, easy to build, and equally easy to maintain. The 88 is designed so that the entire console can be serviced with a single screw driver. Motherboards are shock-mounted with rubber standoffs to isolate them from the chassis and provide additional protection from structure born stresses. A channel can be swapped in a matter of minutes and the console will continue to function if one or more channels are removed.

  • Faders, channels, groups, and master section are individually removable
  • All rear connections are also removable

Having a split/inline console doubles the inputs to your stereo bus. This is a common configuration for recording consoles in today’s market. This console added an EQ to the monitor path that can also be swapped with the main channel EQ.

  • Dual inputs to the channels—line and monitor
  • Four-band, sweepable channel EQ, is switchable with monitor tilt EQ
  • Dual inserts to each channel at the preamp or at the main channel EQ
  • 8 auxes: 6 mono and 2 stereo
  • 27 dB of headroom

Incorporating a discrete Class-A preamp to the 88 gives the console a higher quality stock preamp from the start and also incorporates the option to add a Lundahl input transformer to any channel desired.

  • Discrete Class A
  • 65 dB gain
  • Balanced inputs, with optional Lundahl transformers
  • Full bypass insert
  • Input reverse switch
  • Mic/line switch
  • Phantom power switch

Taking the highly regarded 80B EQ from the 80 Series console and improving on it with the 80C EQ gives you more control. Adding more EQ offers a more versatile analog recording console progression. Having EQ on the vast majority of the inputs on the 88 console means more analog controls at your fingers.

  • High and low shelving
  • Low/high mid peaking
  • 4 sweepable bands boost/cut to +/-15 dB.
  • 50 Hz high pass filter
  • Insert pre/post EQ
  • Monitor in: Tilt EQ
  • Group FX returns: 12 kHz and 80 Hz shelving
  • Group monitor returns: 12 kHz and 80 Hz shelving

Keeping control of your workflow with ease and speed is the core function of an analog recording console. Your time spent setting up a mix and the ability to have tactile control with immediate effect over your work is essential and time saving.

The 88 console is designed to give you maximum control and routing options at your fingertips. This can make your creative process more effective and save you time in the process.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. This is for our school. Is this a powered mixer or will I need to purchase power amps to drive stage monitors and PA speakers?

A: The Allen & Heath ZED-24 is a mixer only. You would need to connect it to an amplifier if you want to power passive speakers and/or passive stage monitors. It seems like you are looking for something more like B&H # YAEMX5014C or B&H # YAEMX7.

Q: 2. Does Mackie have a multitrack application for Mac/PC?

A: Yes the Mackie Onyx24 will do that via USB.

Q: 3. is this outboard gear compatible with protools?

A: The mixer has a USB input/output interface. Assuming that your PC is running Pro Tools and that this program accepts input via the USB port on your computer, then it should be compatible. Also, the mixer comes with a free download of Cakewalk's Sonar LE, which performs a similar function. I would recommend that you test Pro Tools to make sure it can use the USB interface first.

Q: 4. Can the control room be used as another auxiliary?

A: Yes, the control room output on the Mackie Onyx24 Analog Mixer can be used as an auxiliary output, if desired.

Q: 5. Is this unit 3 pin, 5 pin or both 3 and 5 pin XLR?

A: The CHAUVET DJ Stage Designer 50 24-Channel Dimming Console BH #CHSTAGEDES50 unit has both 3 and 5 pin connectors.

Q: 6. does this board have individual line phantom power?

A: The Mackie Onyx24 24-Channel Premium Analog Mixer with Multitrack USB does not feature individual 48v phantom power per channel.

Q: 7. Does the USB in this mixer allow for recording direct digital to a DAW, or is the output purely analog?

A: thank you for your question. You are able to use the USB output as a direct recording out to a DAW and also as an audio input into the console. The USB output will only be a 2 channel mix and not multitrack.

Q: 8. Hi, I know this mixer has 6 aux sends. Do you know if 5 can be used for in ears mixes?

A: Yes, any number of auxiliary outputs on the Soundcraft LX7 II - 24 Channel Recording Mixer can be used for in-ear mix sends.

Q: 9. made from where?

A: According to the information in our system, provided to us by Yamaha, at this time the MGP24X is manufactured in China.

Q: 10. How can we use 4 speakers from the L&R main outs for our school auditorium? We currently use two powered PA speakers with the mixer, but we need two more PA speakers.

A: Your two existing speakers will most likely have a line output or "thru" connection on the back that will allow you to connect the output from one speaker to the input on an additional powered speaker. So you can easily expand your existing setup by daisy-chaining more speakers on the left and right sides. As long as you are connecting powered speakers, you can daisy chain as many speakers as desired.

What can I say? An great balance between sound quality and value. In fact, I wouldn't say that there is any compromise in sound quality at all. In comparison to my other DAC/headphone amp costing about 5x of this box, there are numerous recordings where I enjoy the sound signature of this little amp over my other amp. When paired up with my headphones it presents a rather warm presence with emphasized lower mids but without any compromise in bass and well extended smooth highs. It has no trouble driving low impedance (32ohms) headphones with plenty overhead. Given the value it's a no-brainer for anyone serious about best music experience without shelling out for an expensive setup.

I was listening to music a lot at my computer as I worked. Bought this after a bit of research and it has transformed the music I have been listening to for the past months - I can hear instruments and sections of music previously missed, and all through the same headphones and the same music player and files as before. Stunning! I'll never go back to basic motherboard audio output again.

I am by no means an audiophile but have always enjoyed music. Some how during the digital translation I lost the proper listening equipment. Once I ripped all of my CDs into flac the stereo and CD player got put away. It took me a few years to discover why I wasn't enjoying my music listening experience anymore. I was listening via poor sounds cards, crummy PC speakers and mp3s on iPods. The Audioengine D1 has freed my digital music collection and taken it to the next level. Recommend this device if you are trying to get higher quality audio from your PC. Be sure to also check out Audioengine's speakers.

I'm an audiophile searching for the best way to improve sound from my computer. I found a big part of the answer in this digital-to-analog converter, with its headphone amplifier. The difference in sound between this unit and plugging the phones directly into the computer is dramatic. The sound is more detailed, more musical, with more undistorted highs and lows. Strongly recommended.

The product is very easey to use. The sound improvement is great and totally unexpected. I never experienced anything similiar. This is the best investment in my music system ever. Nothing critical to report.
