Now in its third version, the Canon RF-mount Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 III from Mitakon-Zhongyi is an exceptionally fast normal-length prime with enhanced flare resistance. Obviously distinguished by its f/0.95 maximum aperture, this lens excels in low-light situations and affords impressive control over depth of field. Its optical design incorporates one high refractive index element along with five ultra-low dispersion elements to produce well-corrected imagery void of spherical and chromatic aberrations. The lens's manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 1.6' away and an 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Normal-length prime is designed for use with full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless digital cameras and can also be used with APS-C models where it provides an 80mm equivalent focal length.

Fast f/0.95 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also enables extensive control over your focus position to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

Five ultra-low dispersion elements and one high refractive index element helps to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the aperture range for greater sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy.

Manual focus design utilizes a floating elements system to permit focusing on subjects as close as 1.6' away.

De-clicked, stepless aperture ring permits smooth, silent aperture adjustment to benefit video applications.

An 11-blade diaphragm contributes a pleasing out-of-focus quality when working with selective focus techniques.

All-metal lens barrel features engraved depth of field and focus scales. Additionally, a metal lens mount also offers increased durability between the lens and camera.

Q: 9. Does the Lens mount on the Z6 with the mount Nikon provided? I hope not.

A: This lens is a Z mount and will attach directly to the Z6 without an adapter.

Q: 10. Does this lens provide focal plane illumination that is sufficiently near telecentric to allow the f/2.8 pixel condensers in the Canon focal plane to work, out to the corners of the image?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Canon EF (B&H# MI50095CEF), while non tele-centric, will allow for cameras possessing a Canon EF mount to attain critical focus throughout the focal plane. Naturally, there is some curvature to that. As is always the case with fast prime lenses, the center is sharpest, but by about f/2 the image circle in general is sharp enough for typical photographic portraiture usage in even the non central region of the frame. Of course, whether or not that is enough for your usage will depend on your needs and preferences. Stop down to f/8 to achieve the wider depth of field that you need if you want the corners to be their sharpest despite natural field curvature.

I purchased the Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 based on some of the reviews and because I wanted a lens with very shallow depth of focus so I could blur the background effectively. I found this lens to be tack sharp where in focus even at f/0.95. and the backgrounds are nicely blurred as well.

The lens construction is all metal - solid and, not surprisingly, quite heavy for its size.

This is a specialty all manual lens. I find it great for portraits and images where shallow depth of focus is desired.

I am using this lens on my Canon M5 camera. The Canon M5 must be set to enable "shoot without lens" to use this lens.

Not for everyone, probably not for everyday, but a great lens to have in your bag of tricks none the less.

The Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 is a sweet heart lens! I am using it on a Sony a6500 and getting fabulous results. The lens is all metal and built quite well. It feels great in the hand and on the camera with smooth mechanical focusing. As an decades long Leica owner, I can say the Speedmaster is remarkably similar to the Leica lens by design. As a full manual lens, it must be noted there is a brief learning curve for focusing such an ultra fast lens. Depth of field wide open is razor sharp. I use the Sony focus peaking (red color) which makes focusing a huge help. You must learn to sense when the peaking is actually at its brightest for perfect focus. The Speedmaster 35mm at f/0.95 provides exquisite center sharpness why remarkable out of focus bokeh. Wide open, your subjects will POP off the background which is what this fast lens is all about. Finally, the cost is very reasonable. Once mastered, this lens will become your go to lens for your special picture targets. Highly recommended.

Upfront: this lens is not the sharpest wide-open, it is manual focus, and the aperture ring is de-clicked. But it is the most fun I've had with a lens, ever.

The focus ring is well dampened, and the sharp fall-off at f/0.95 makes it a little easier to tell what exactly is in focus. Focus-check zoom also helps.

It's nice being able to shoot a little wider but still maintain a shallow depth of field, sort of like a larger format camera.

The lens also comes with a very nice faux-leather case (see first image below). I don't think I'm going to use it for anything, but I appreciate the effort.

So far, I love the lens. I use it with focus peaking on my X Pro 2. Manual focusing is not tedious with this setup. The lens is solid--a lot of metal and glass here but it feels good. Only had it a short while but right now it is glued on one of my Fujifilm X pro 2 bodies. Pleasantly surprised by this third party lens.
