Ideally suited for wildlife and sports applications, the versatile telephoto range benefits photographing distant, moving subjects, and is reinforced by a twin linear AF motor for fast performance, as well as five stop-effective optical image stabilization to Minimize the appearance of camera shake. Further benefitting its use outdoors, this 100-400mm lens also sports a weather-sealed construction and fluorine-coated front element to guard against dust and moisture from affecting the lens' performance.

Long-reaching telephoto zoom is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and offers a 152-609mm equivalent focal length range.

Five extra-low dispersion elements and one Super ED element are used to greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce high clarity and color fidelity throughout the zoom range.

A five stop-effective optical image stabilization system Minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.

Twin linear motors deliver quick, quiet, and smooth autofocus performance that is especially beneficial when working with fast-moving subjects.

A focus limiter switch on the side of the lens barrel lets you constrain the focusing range to either the full range of 5.7' to infinity, or from 16.4' to infinity for faster focusing performance with distant subjects.

The lens body incorporates 13 distinct weather seals in 12 locations to protect against dust and moisture, and to enable worry-free use in inclement conditions and freezing temperatures as low as 14°F. Additionally, a fluorine coating has been applied to the front lens element to guard against smudging, moisture, and dust.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contribute to a pleasing out-of-focus quality to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

Zoom-lock switch prevents unwanted zoom creep from occurring and also can be used to maintain the same zoom position while shooting.

A removable, rotating tripod collar allows for well-balanced mounting and shooting when working from a tripod or monopod.

The included lens hood incorporates a sliding window to allow easier adjustment of rotating filters, such as a polarizer, while the hood is installed.

Compatible with optional XF 1.4x TC WR and XF 2x TC WR teleconverters.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the Fujifilm T2 autofocus using the 100-400 lens and the 2X teleconverter?

A: Sorry I haven't used the teleconverter yet, but the 100-400 lens is great.

Q: 2. When you pick up this lens, does it make rattling noise like the 50-140 F2.8 would?

A: I don't own the 50-140, but I do own the 90. This lens makes a similar, but less pronounced clunking noise when powered off. From what I've read, it's a normal result of the focus mechanism.

Q: 3. While using the lens in video mode, does the exposure flicker during a zoom in or out?

A: FUJIFILM XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens have variable apertures. If you would be using the lens minimun aperture it will increase and decrease automatically from f/4.5-5.6 or f/9-11 if you would be attaching the Fujifilm 2x Teleconverter. If you select a higher aperture the f-stop won't fluctuate.

Q: 4. Can this lens be hand held w/the Fujifilm Xt-5?

A: The lens does have stabilization and the xt5 has stabilization as well. The lens alone weighs 3lbs. That said if using a fast shutter and bracing you should be able to get great results even hand holding yes.

Q: 5. how would this lens on a Fuji X-T1 compare to a Tamron 150-600 G1 on a Canon 6D. Which would have the better image quality? RegardsKelvin

A: It would be the Fuji lens, IMHO. I had the Tamron lens for awhile, using it on a 7DMkII and I found the images soft. If you want the reach with the 6D, try the Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 II with a 1.4x tc.

Q: 6. Does this lens work with Olympus mirrorless cameras or Panasonic mirrorless cameras as well?

A: Sorry but it's lens mount to the camera is an X mount. The only way it would work is if you have a lens mount converter

Q: 7. What is the weight of this Fuji lens XF 100-400 and what is the weight of the XF 55-200?

A: The 55-200mm is 20.46 oz / 580 g.

Q: 8. Does this lens have a 'focus lock' button, or should I use "back button focus' instead ?

A: There is a lock switch which will prevent lens creep but the lens does not offer a focus a button.

Q: 9. What is the diameter of the widest part of the lens?

A: What Eden P said.

Q: 10. Is lens be well balanced with an XT-4 camera? Can you achieve hand-held shots with the XT-4 or is a tripod needed/better?

A: The FUJIFILM XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens is about 3.03 lbs. while the Fugifilm X-t4 is about 1.16 lbs. so they aren't balanced in that regard. In terms of of whether or not you need a tripod is completely dependent on your capability but overall, you do not necessarily need a tripod and it can be used 100% handheld.

This lens is so light weight compared to what I had with a different system, absolutely love it.

If you can pick this lens up while there's a promo going, do not hesitate. I think it was $500 off during the current one. Optical clarity is exactly what you'd expect from Fuji red label glass. Water resistance and OIS make poor weather and handheld shooting a breeze. I shot at 1/30 with my arm propped on my truck door and it looks as if shot from a tripod. It's heavy but any 100-400 is and the AF is crazy fast.

I picked up a copy used, and have been LOVING this lens. I went out in freezing temps to get some wildlife shots recently, and have been happy with the results. On my X-T4 the autofocus has been pretty good, not perfect, but as good as any other camera I've used(Nikon D500, Olympus E-M1 mk ii), so I can't complain. I also find it easy to manually focus for shots when an animal is in too much brush to get an autofocus lock.

I HIGHLY recommend this lens if you like wildlife photography. The 50-140 is great, but even with the 2x teleconverter you don't get this much reach, and I found the pictures softer and the autofocus less reliable with that setup.

I have been waiting for this lens to become available again. I use it with a monopod for birding, it is stable enough with OIS that I can get away with hand held in certain situations. I've used it with an XT-2 and an XT-20 with solid results, sharp images with good contrast.

Used one extensively since first introduced. Great image quality, build. Small and light for the tele range. It's really a medium range lens in birding terms. Long reach, including w/1.4 TC is OK for ID purposes but not for great image quality at distances unless on a tripod with manual focus. Medium range it will grab birds and allow great cropping with no loss of quality. Perfect car birding lens resting on a window. Small enough to be a great street sneak / performance lens too.

Excellent wildlife and sports lens. Solid build and great optics. Large heavy lens but is manageable with a tripod or good shoulder strap.

It is a bit heavy. I am still getting use to handling it, but the build quality is great and so are the pictures. Continous auto focus works well for birds in flight.

It was very difficult to justify the cost as a mere photography hobbyist, but I'm glad I did (wife may not concur). It is expensive and heavy, but I knew this in advance and didn't want to wait any longer for the 70-300m to be available. I'm very pleased I made the investment. It is a well made lens that exceeded my expectations.

This is an excellent lens in very way. It's sharp at all focal lengths and apertures. An great addition to your Fujifilm camera. I have not taken mine off a X-T20 camera in a month.
