The 82mm Peter McKinnon Edition Variable Neutral Density 0.6 to 1.5 Filter from PolarPro is designed to mount onto lenses with 82mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 2 to 5 stops. The 0.6 to 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than usually possible. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with numbers representing the different stop values and features side knurlings to further enable fast and precise positioning. To help ensure consistent exposures, the front ring is designed to prevent any rotation beyond the stop values etched on it.

This filter is constructed from quartz glass for enhanced durability. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, 16 layers of anti-reflection coatings offer scratch protection to the filter substrate while promoting clarity and color fidelity. The coatings associated with the PolarPro 82mm Peter McKinnon Edition Variable ND 0.6 to 1.5 Filter also result in an improved beading effect when in contact with water or oil, allowing for more efficient cleaning.

The quartz optics are set within an aluminum alloy filter ring assembly for durability while remaining lightweight. Both a filter case and pouch are included for storage and transport, as well as a slim cover. When used to grip the filter during installation, the cover helps prevent fingerprints from being left on the filter's glass surfaces.

Variable neutral density filter allows you to apply differing amounts of density from scene to scene.

0.6 to 1.5 neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally possible.

Providing a reduction of 2 to 5 stops, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Offers increased flexibility to use specific ISO settings or ISO films under bright ambient light.

Provides increased exposure flexibility while using cinema or video cameras within a designated film frame rate.

Constructed from quartz glass for enhanced durability.

Multi-coated to prevent internal ghosting and reflections while promoting clarity as well as color fidelity.

Side knurlings allow the filter glass to be easily rotated.

Front filter ring is constructed to help ensure that its rotation corresponds to the filter's exposure reduction range.

89mm front diameter helps to reduce the likelihood of vignetting with wide-angle lenses.

Slim cover for enhanced grip during filter installation and prevention of fingerprints from being left on the filter's glass surfaces.

Microfiber cloth for cleaning and maintenance.

Plastic filter case and a padded pouch for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. why isn't there a 72mm?

A: This filter is not available at 72mm at this time. However we do have other higher quality options that are, such as the B+W 72mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter, BH #BWNDVXSP72. https://bhpho.to/2V2u8vJ

Q: 2. Has anyone used it on an ultra-wide like the Sony 16-35 2.8? I'm worried how it will perform when ultra-wide.

A: The Polarpro filters are excellent and should produce high quality images without any vignetting on the wide end.

Q: 3. Hi ! Video guy question ! Will this let me go f1.8 on 1/50 and 200 iso on a bright sunny day ? Or I need the other version. Thanks

A: Unfortunately, we cannot be sure exactly how much density you will need without knowing the original exposure or the ambient light level. However, I would guesstimate that, by using the Sunny-16 rule, I would recommend you would need at least a 10-stop neutral density filter for your usage needs, so the above option would not work for your usage. If you are looking for an alternative that would work, I would recommend the Aurora-Aperture 77mm Power XND Mark II Variable ND 1.5 to 3.3 Filter (5 to 11-Stop), B&H # AUVND322K77, or the Haida 77mm NanoPro Variable Neutral Density 0.9 to 3.0 Filter (3 to 10-Stop), B&H # HANPVND77, for your usage needs.

Q: 4. do the filter eliminate IR pollution?

A: No, that filter does not reduce IR pollution. It is a Variable Neutral Density filter. The filter only reduces the amount of all light getting through.

Q: 5. Can this filter be used with a lens hood?

A: Most likely yes it will work with the lens hood but it also depends on which lens you are using.

Q: 6. Hi, interested if if this is the first or second edition from PolarPro for the variable ND filter. Thank you

A: This is version one.

Q: 7. Does this VND also have polarizer built in.... or should we consider getting the PolarPro fixed ND/PL? Thank you

A: This filter is only a VND, if you want a combo, then the Polarpro ND/CP would be the way to go.

Q: 8. If I'm attaching this to my Canon 24-105mm lens, will this accept it's lens hood?

A: Unfortunately, the hood will not work with the filter.

Q: 9. Can this VND work with PolarPro's Summit kit similarly to its drop-in CPL?

A: No, the PolarPro Summit filter holder uses the PolarPro Summit filters and does not work with a standard screw on filter like the PolarPro 82mm Peter McKinnon Edition Variable Neutral Density filter.

Q: 10. Is this newest version? Version 2?

A: No this is the mark I.

You really can't go wring with anything by PolarPro. I also own the original version of this model and it's worth it to get the new one. Image is beautiful and the packing on this is A+.

This VND is great and meets my needs. I typically use the tilta mirage but in cases where I want to have a lighter rig this works perfectly. I may switch to using these exclusively.

This filter is convenient going from 2 to 5 stop. I tested it on a water fall and it was no specific coloration or distortion of the picture. To me, it does the expected job.

Love the precision of choosing which stop its on. Clicks into place and stays there no matter what.

I am a wedding videographer and photographer. I have used a couple different filters and this one blows them all out of the water! I have this one for the Canon rf 50mm F1.2 and the two are a perfect pair. It is a little on the pricey side for sure but if you do any kind of video work it is a game changer.

I don't see why I'll ever remove this from my Lumix S Pro 50mm. Maybe only for the 2 to 5-Stop for lower light indoor conditions.

I tried others before and there was always some crazy vignetting that you can't remove in post. I don't see that here at all.

If you need, and why wouldn't you, to open up your aperture... get them.

I'm now thinking of buying the mist edition just to take that clinical look away from the sharp, modern lenses that I use.

This VND is amazing, and definitely worth its high cost. The build quality is even better than expected, and images are clear with no cross polarization or noticeable image quality issues. The only downside is that the rubber lens cap is difficult to remove.
