The Arca-type-compatible Tilt Shift Lens Bracket for Canon TS-E17 / TS-E24 Tilt & Shift Lenses from Sunwayfoto has the lens sit on three stabilizing seats inside the bracket. Each seat, which has a rubber pad for protection against scratching the lens' finish, firmly holds the lens in place. Therefore, the bracket allows you to use the tilt/shift lens in an unconventional way. The 45° bubble level on the side of the bracket enables you to position your camera in the same angle, so you can shift your lens in four 45° quadrants to shoot separate images to digitally stitch for a larger image. The lens bracket also rotates from a landscape to portrait position to laterally shift your lens horizontally or vertically to create larger panoramas as well. While mounted on an Arca-type head, the bracket provides space between the lens and head, so the lens does not bump into the head during the process of tilting or shifting the lens.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this lens somehow let the user know if the photo is in focus? Is there something that blinks? I am shooting with a 5D Mark IV. Thanks!

A: Hi Austin. This is a manual focusing lens. The blink will occur with auto focusing lenses. This lens is intended to be used with a tripod and stopped down a bit (f/8.0) should work. Use the manual focus ring to set the distance. With the aperture stopped down on a 17mm lens just about everything in the frame should be in focus.

Q: 2. Lens hood included or is this lens to be used with the glass exposed like that?

A: The lens has no hood or filter ring. You must use it with Lee or other filter holders. The lens is strictly manual focus, manual exposure and is best used with a 1 deg. spot meter. You can rotate the tilt and the shift so both can be used in different orientations. Somewhat like the front of a view camera.

Q: 3. Lens hood included or is this lens to be used with the glass exposed like that?

A: Canon doesn't make a hood for this lens. WonderPana Filter Holder for Canon 17mm TS-E can be used as a hood.

Q: 4. Which Canon extension tube is compatible with this lens?

A: According to Canon, both tubes will work with the 90mm TSE. You will of course have a limited focus distance. The lens manual lists the working distance for both tubes. You can view the manual here; https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/524712.pdf

Q: 5. One of the reviewers mentioned the Fotodiox Wonderpana Freearc system to protect the front lens of the TS-E 17mm. I like that idea, but which one?

A: I have used the TS-E 17 for a couple of years. Absolutely love this lens. I however don't want to put anything between my great UD L series glass and the subject. I will admit that I was concerned about the protruding front element at first. However the concerns have faded with use. I usually have the lens cap in place unless I'm taking a shot, but have trekked about in major cities like Chicago and D.C. with the lens ready to go. I do recommend that you cary a good cleaning kit in your bag, and as with all optics keep 'em clean. This lens is absolutely awesome - go shoot and get comfortable with working with such an outstanding piece of glass!

Q: 6. What is the best lens for product photography?

A: This is a superb lens for product photography. I am a professional product photographer. I have used many lenses, and still do for certain things, but this my go-to lens for nearly everything. It is extremely sharp, and the tilt-shift feature is essential for placing the plane of focus right where you need it. With an extension tube it becomes a great TS macro lens, too. I give it five stars!

Q: 7. Can this be adapted to work on a full-frame Sony camera such as the A1 or an A7r IV ?

A: Yes, you are able to use the Canon TS-E 17mm f/4 tilt-shift lens with an adapter on the Sony A1 and A7RIV cameras.

Q: 8. Which version of the 24mm TSE lens does this fit?

A: The Sunwayfoto Tilt Shift Lens Bracket for Canon TS-E17 / TS-E24 Tilt & Shift Lenses is designed to work with the newer version.

Q: 9. Is this a manual Focus lens or is there electronics on the lens forbautofocus?

A: While there are electronics in the lens for metering in a Canon EOS DSLR, it is a manual focus lens.

Q: 10. I was wondering if anyone has any experience using this this lens with the Canon Extension Tube EF 12 II. Does it affect tilt/shift function? Basically, I am looking for some macro functionality with tilt/shift. Thanks.

A: You can use the 45mm Tilt and Shift lens with the extension tubes but you will lose some tilt and shift functionality.

I am a professional photographer in Seattle. I shoot interiors for both commercial and residential builders, architects, and interior designers. I also shoot many yacht interiors for builders, brokers, and dealers. I have had the 16-35 zoom… and it worked OK but you lose a lot of both quality and image when you straighten out the lines with software. So far the 17mm tilt shift along with the 24mm tilt shift and numerous other lenses I have are the way I shoot. The 17mm is clearly the best lens Canon has ever made. Maybe you could argue about the 24mm too? I have an aftermarket lens hood and a 145mm circular polarizer for the lens…. which is quite useful. My only beef is the knobs hide the adjustment lines and you really need a flashlight in your hand to work the lens in a dark restaurant or yacht environment… relatively a small problem.

This lens is an absolute must-have for shooting architecture. I use it about 85% of the time. Sure it distorts, but there are ways to deal with it and make it work, make it beautiful and dramatic.

A real asset to anyone shooting real estate photography! Certainly sets you above the crowd!

This lens is technically flawless and simply amazing. I shoot landscape and architectural photography. This lens handles both so well. Of course, it's main application will be architectural photography. But it shines in landscape as well, especially if you would like to look up towards the sky at a 45 degree angle and not have all the trees vertically converging toward the center of the photograph! So, if you are wondering is it worth the money, it is for me. And if you are a serious landscape or architectural photographer, it will be for you as well.

And yes, there is a third party filter and pinch cap attachment that allows full movement with no vignetting, contrary to what other reviewers say. So, have your cake and eat it too!

Not a lens for all. If you shoot commercial building Exteriors and Interiors it may be a must have. Landscape shooters may be able to live without it - but I couldn't. It may be a small step down from the incomparable TS-E 24mm II, but it's a very small step. It works as an ultra wide on any Canon Full Frame and stays wide enough to be useful on the cropped sensor cameras (7D, 60D etc.) I replaced a 14mm II with this lens. The 14mm II is very capable - the 17mm TS-E is sharper and with tilt / swing far more versatile.

Sharp, versatile... Can be tricky for metering. Remember to lock tilt/shift when not using

I have been using this lens for almost a decade now and it always "enhanced" every situation I had to capture, obviously architecture and landscape. But now mounted on a Sony A7RII it's just ridiculous the improvement in image quality over my last Canon body (5D MKIII...I know the 5DS is way better...but sorry I left the Canon boat long time ago but couldn't leave my 17 TS-E and also my 200 f1.8 but that's another story.. ; ) For the ones that still hesitate, rent it first, and you'll have no choice than to buy it after.. ; ) And in 2018 you have now the choice for filter holder without vignetting... take the 145mm, the 100mm system won't let you get the full potential of the movements, happy shooting... ; )
