The Short Tripod Microphone Stand from Gravity Stands is a short mic stand with a folding tripod base, a two-point adjustable boom, and a smart feature set that makes it a dependable and easy to use choice for instrument miking.

The stand is constructed from steel tubes, polished inside, offering smooth adjustments without scratching. The height is adjustable from 20 to 29.1" using a twist-grip with nonslip soft-touch material that allows you to secure a tight adjustment without hurting your hands.

The boom extends up to 19.7" and features a sturdy aluminum adjustment joint with two-point tilt. Double-injected knobs coat the hard ABS and nylon components with a rubber-like plastic coating that makes them easy to grip and comfortable to use. An oversized grip on the locking nut at the end of the boom gives you more leverage for an easier locking and unlocking experience.

The use of a heavy zinc die-cast base with very specific manufacturing tolerances means the components fit together perfectly for a solid stand without gaps that can create wiggling and wobbling. Included is a set of 7 black coding rings in various sizes to help you easily identify your mics onstage. Additional sets of rings in various colors are available separately.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the total length at collapse position? I want a stand with arm that will fit inside my Pelican 1650 case for flights.

A: I contacted the manufacturer to confirm the collapsed length of the Auray MS-5220T Short Tripod Microphone Stand. The collapsed length of the stand without the boom arm attached is 17.7” and 24.5” with the boom arm attached.

Q: 2. -Is this tripod really stable to mount a Cascade Microphone New Fat Head II with its Shockmount (# CA119A MFR # 119-A)?

A: I have a iRig Studio Mic, A Metal Pop Filter, and a metal script holder mounted on this Stand. I think it should be able to handle it.

Q: 3. Will the GMSQC1B securely hold a Rycote blimp with a shotgun mic at the end of an often-in-motion boom pole used for production sound mixing / location sound?

A: Yes you can mount a Rycote Blimp onto the Gravity GMSQC1B.

Q: 4. What kind of mic mount does this take?

A: The MS-5230T features a 5/8 threading compatible with most standard mic clips and mounts.

Q: 5. What size Threading Adapter do I need?

A: It really depends on what device you are trying to connect. The standard threading is 5/8 -27.

Q: 6. Folded into its smallest configuration, is the overall length greater than 19"?

A: The Auray MS-5230T's minimum height is 36.2 inches.

Q: 7. Will this mount work with a pistol grip with a 3/8"-16 threading?

A: You will need this 5/8'' to 3/8'' adapter to make this stand work with your pistol grip, B&H # ONMA100.

Q: 8. is 33.9" the max length the arm can extend from the center of the stand, or is that the max length from end to end of the boom arm?

A: The max length of boom end to end is 33.9"

Q: 9. Would this work well to hold a cardioid mic above seated interviewees?

A: The Auray MS-5230T Tripod Microphone Stand with Telescoping Boom will work for mounting a microphone above a seated interview subject, but the camera shot would be affected by the close proximity of the stand to the subject, due to the lack of length in the stand's boom arm. A more preferable method would be to mount a boom pole onto a C-stand/light stand with a "boom mate" style adapter such as the BoomMate BPH Boompole Holder and Grip Head Kit (BH #BOBPHV2K). This method will allow the stand to be placed much further from the subject (the length of the boom pole) and not have such an influence over the camera shot, so that a wider angle can be used if desired.

Q: 10. What is the height range?

A: The stand is adjustable from a minimum height of 3.5' (1m) to a maximum height of 6.4' (1.9m).
