$53.85 $84.54

The 1.25" Ice Variable Polarizing Filter allows you to control the amount of light transmitted through to your eye so you can tailor it to the brightness of the object you're looking at—reducing the brightness and glare on celestial objects like the moon, Venus, and even bright double stars.

This filter does not alter the color of the object you're observing, making it a great choice for astroimaging, especially when imaging the surface of the moon. By reducing the brightness, lunar details become more pronounced and defined. This filter can also be used to darken the blue sky background when hunting for planets like Venus or Jupiter during daylight, making the planet stand out from the background. Simply rotate the filter's lower ring to adjust the light transmission from just 1% (blocking 99% of incoming light) up to as much as 40%. Having this level of control over the filtration allows you to precisely set it to a specific target and current viewing conditions so you can get the best view possible. Standard threads on both sides allow it to be installed on just about any 1.25" eyepiece and stacked with color or specialty filters to further refine and enhance the viewing experience.

Q: 1. I'm a beginner so plse forgive this question - but how do these filters attach to the eyepieces? I see the filters have femal;e threads on them - do they screw onto the top of the eyepiece? Does this mean all eyepieces have male threads so that they accept filters suich as these to be attached? Thanhs, just trying to understand how these work

A: The Celestron Moon Filter Set has male and female threads. . The easiest way to attach a filter is on the diagonal. This way the eyepieces can be changed without re-attaching the filter from one eyepiece to another. Female thread on a filter is used for stacking several filters.

Q: 2. Will these filters work with the Meade 114EQ-AST 4.5 /114mm Reflector Telescope Kit B&H # ME114EQST / MFR # 04066-1 ? How do they compare to the Meade #3200 Lunar and Planetary Color 4-Piece Filter Set ?

A: Yes this filter set will be compatible with your Meade 114EQ-AST 4.5 /114mm Reflector Telescope Kit. Both kits are actually somewhat comparable. Some reviewers have said the Meade is better quality wise. Personally I think they are the same.

Q: 3. Never heard of ICE. Does this produce a color cast?

A: ICE filters are made by Desmond Photographic. The Ice 82mm Slim Circular Polarizer Filter is neutral and should not have a color cast.

Q: 4. Can this be used on manual mode as well as automatic?

A: The short answer is yes. When you use it on manual you will find you need to increase your basic exposure by at least 1 stop, possibly a little more. On automatic, you MAY also find you need to add a little exposure; you can override your auto setting by a 1/3 to 2/3 stops.

Q: 5. Is the Ice Lipo Light Pollution Filter (2") made of plastic or glass?

A: The Ice Lipo Light Pollution Filter (2") is a glass filter.

Q: 6. will this product be compatible with the NexStar 8se?

A: Have a look at your eyepieces: there should be an internal thread on the end that goes into the telescope focusser. If so the Celestron eyepiece filters will fit, in fact they will screw into most brands of 1.25 eyepieces. However, they will not fit any 2 or the older 0.965 eyepieces. Kind Regards, Ian

Q: 7. Is it possible to see through plastic with this filter on a Nikon Z7ii? Or does it require other special equipment?

A: The Ice 77mm HB760 Infrared Filter has a filter factor of ~1000x and ~10 stops of ND. You will not be able to see through the glass unless you are aiming the filter directly at a bright light.

Q: 8. hello how many lens elements are housed in a standard 58MM filter of this type

A: Circular Polarizers and polarizers in general are composed of two flat pieces of glass (as opposed to elements which are convex/concave optics used in a lens).

Q: 9. Will this 77mm filter fit onto the Canon RF 70-200mm f2.8 lens with the supplied Canon lens hood attached?

A: Yes, the Ice 77mm Slim Circular Polarizer will fit without obstruction from the RF 70-200mm f/2.8 lens hood. The lens hood has a filter window that you may open to spin the circular polarizer.

Q: 10. Does this come apart into two pieces like the Orion so you can put one half on the eyepiece and the other on the diagonal?

A: No, it dose not come apart.
