Characterized by its speed and portrait-length field of view, the Primoplan 75mm f/1.9 II from Meyer-Optik Gorlitz is a sophisticated, yet simple prime for Sony E-mount cameras. The bright f/1.9 maximum aperture pairs well with the short telephoto focal length to allow working with shallow depth of field and selective focusing techniques, and the fast aperture also benefits working in difficult lighting conditions. Its manual focus design further offers control when focusing down to 2.5', and a 15 rounded-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth bokeh quality. The five elements, four groups optical design makes use of Schott glass for a high degree of clarity, and an O'Hara Anti Reflex Coating has also been applied to limit flare and surface reflections for improved contrast and color accuracy. Additionally, the lens features an anodized aluminum housing that is durable, lightweight, and contributes to smooth, silent focusing performance.

Portrait-length prime is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 112.5mm equivalent focal length.

Fast f/1.9 maximum aperture allows for extensive control over depth of field, for working with selective focus techniques, and also benefits working in low-light conditions.

Inspired by the original Cooke triplet optical design, this lens uses a five elements, four groups layout in which the central dispersion element is surrounded by two groups of converging elements, and the rear element has a biconvex converging design to produce notable smoothness and clarity.

Schott glass is used for high clarity and contrast, and each of the elements feature an O'Hara Anti Reflex Coating to suppress lens flare and ghosting for color neutrality.

Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 2.5' away.

Fifteen rounded diaphragm blades contribute to a smooth bokeh quality.

Front 52mm filter thread is consistent throughout the Meyer-Optik Gorlitz version II lens series.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. In the specs, it is put forth that the angle of view is 20 degrees. This should be about 40 degrees. Is there something wrong?

A: For a 58mm lens focused at infinity used on a full-frame 36x24mm sensor, the angle of view across the width of the sensor would be approximately 34.48°, while the angle of view across the height of the sensor would be approximately 23.38°, and the diagonal angle of view across the sensor would be approximately 40.91°.

Q: 2. Is this a Full Frame lens?

A: Yes, the Meyer-Optik Gorlitz Trioplan 100 f2.8 II Lens for Nikon Z is a full frame lens.

Q: 3. What is the country of origin?

A: OPC Optical Precision Components Europe GmbH based in Bad Kreuznach, Germany

Q: 4. Is it useable with a film camera"Nikon f2"? Focusing?

A: Being that the Meyer-Optik Gorlitz Primoplan 75mm f/1.9 II Lens for Nikon F is a fully manual lens, it is possible to use it on film SLR bodies such as a Nikon F2.

Q: 5. does this lens output exif data?

A: The Meyer-Optik Gorlitz Primoplan 58mm f/1.9 II Lens for Sony E does not output exif data.

Q: 6. The photo shows f16 and the text says f22 for max?? Which is it??

A: The minimum aperture is f/22, what you see in the photo is the depth of field scale, not the aperture ring. Basically it is not particularly necessary to show f/22 on the DOF scale.

Q: 7. What is the Magnification/Reproduction ratio? I see others are using for Macro.

A: This has a 1:1 ratio.

Q: 8. Do I need to buy an adapter for Leica CL?

A: No adapter is needed. It will fit the Leica CL directly.

Q: 9. When used with the Z8, will Focus peaking and zebra stripes be possible?

Q: 10. Does it have a declicked aperture?

If you can't take great photos with this lens, sell all your gear. Butter backgrounds, very sharp with beautiful colors and life of it's own. I was really impressed. I use it on my Z6ii and Z8. It's sharper than my old Nikon 85 1.4 wide open. I never thought I would say that! Don't hesitate to get one. You will be pleasantly impressed.

Purchased this lens for my X-T5. It is fantastically sharp even wide open, has good color and contrast, and, when the camera's autofocus settings are properly set, it focuses fast. I'm a still photographer, so I haven't used it for video. I usually shoot in single point autofocus mode, but found that the size of the focus box determines how fast the lens will focus, especially wide open. You have to adjust how fine your focus point is according to the subject.

This lens uses complex front group to narrow the light, and 3 FCD515 glasses from HOYA. As the result, it has extreme low Spherical / Longitudinal Chromatic Aberration.

It is very sharp, even shot closely.

If you only care about the optics, you should absolutely consider this lens.

CONs:

Relatively heavy due to big front spherical elements.

Cat's eye effect(inevitable considering the spec).

Aperture ring is not that clicky compared to Fuji 23mm F1.4 LM WR.

I have been buying Viltrox lenses for a few years now and I had to jump at the chance to get this new F/1.2 PRO lens and I was not disappointed!

The build quality is top notch and it is even weather sealed, which is always nice to have on a lens when you shoot in all kinds of weather and environments.

This lens is nice and sharp at F/1.2 from the center to the corners and the Contrast is excellent as well!

At $549 it is the best deal on the market when you consider that all the F/1.2 lenses from Canon, Sony and Nikon cost $2,000-$3,000.

I actually purchased this lens and returned it. It does remind me a lot of the Fujifilm 56 that I love and I decided to stick with that. I went back and looked at it again and needed something weather proof so decided to try it again. Thank Goodness I did. With spring being sprung and using it photographing flowers, portraits, I am blown away at the quality of the images I am capturing. I didn't give it enough time before. It is bigger than I like, but way smaller than my Nikon d850 and Sigma 135 art. Honestly, I didn't think anything on the fuji side would bring me to a comparison as that, but this comes really close for what I photograph and the results I want. I cannot get over the sharpness. I am happy for this lens and honestly think it's one of my favorites on the portrait side with Fuji.
