This 10-stop, 100 x 100mm ICE ND Filter from Ice is an ND filter with a 1000x filter factor that provides a 10-stop exposure reduction. Its 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed without overexposing your image. By slowing your exposure time, you can create motion blur for special effects or to convey a sense of movement. Opening your iris allows you to create shallow depth of field, which can help isolate your subject. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

This neutral density filter is constructed from tempered, optical glass for shock resistance, clarity, and color fidelity. A plastic case is included for storage and transport.

A: No. This is not Multi-Coated.

Q: 2. Can I hand-hold a camera with this filter on and take pictures of the sun's sunspots?

A: The Ice Magco Solar ND100000 ND Filter with Magnetic Adapter Ring (77mm, 16.5 Stop) could be used for photographing the sun, but only for very short-term use. This filter does not protect your eyes against UV and IR light. Instead, get the MrStarGuy 77mm Thread-in White-Light Solar Filter, BH #STSG77MMSO. This filter protects your eyes from damaging UV and IR as well as white light. You can shoot at a fast enough shutter speed to hand-hold the camera.

Q: 3. spectrum?

A: This filter is designed to block yellow sodium-vapor light. Unfortunately the manufacturer does not provide spectral curve charts for their filter. A: Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS Lens has a 95mm front thread wich will fit perfectly with Ice Magco Solar ND100000 ND Filter with Magnetic Adapter Ring (95mm, 16.5 Stop).

Q: 5. Is this a glass or film filter?

A: The Ice 77mm Solar Mc Nd100000 (Includes Magnetic Adapter Ring) is a glass filter.

Q: 6. Gonna be asking the same question here. Can I attach this magnetic light pollution filter to the Freewell magnetic VND system?

A: While the Ice 82mm Magnetic Light Pollution Filter & Magnetic Adapter and the Freewell Magnetic Base Ring for VND Filters (82mm) are both magnetic filters, the Ice filters have not been tested on the Freewell magnetic base. Also, the Freewell filters and magnetic base are special order items not kept in our inventory, nor are on display in our NYC Superstore. We cannot test these items for compatibility. There is a possibility the items may be used with one another, but we have no confirmation on this.

Q: 7. Is this a circular polarizer? Are there any pics of it?

A: Yes, it is a circular polarizer. The first photo, is a direct photo of the filter.

Q: 8. The spec mention setting your WB to Daylight. Did you do that? I shoot in RAW so I’m not sure why a WB setting is necessary.

A: Although one might shoot a RAW file, it is best to make as many adjustments in-camera so that the post production is minimal, hence the recommendation for setting the white balance to daylight.

Q: 9. Will this filter fit into a tiffen 4x4 holder?

A: This filter is a 2mm filter. The Tiffen works with 4mm filters. This filter would be at risk of falling out.

Q: 10. The first photo of this item shows a rectangular filter, but the description says circular. Which shape is it?

A: The Ice 84 x 98mm P Series Circular Polarizer Filter is a rectangular shape but the effect is called circular polarizer.

Alright, I will give you a very simple yet informative review of this filter, because I thought this would be the only filter I needed. First of all, this is an excellent quality filter. It is perfect for long exposures in both medium to very bright environments, while still having the option of keeping a small aperture. This filter offers numerous benefits, you get to still keep your small aperture (depth of field), have long exposures w/o being blown out, plus the quality/color is not compromised at all due to the excellent quality of the filter. With this, I took long exposures of beach waves during mid-day bright daylight, & long exposures of the freeway overpass traffic (turning the cars into ghosts) during mid-day bright daylight. I also highly recommend getting the 3-stop ND filter as well, as it is perfect for trimming down light in general, as well as for long exposures in low-light-only environments (see my review in the 3-stop filter review section). See my pictures below for some good examples of how great the 10 stop is in cutting down the light during longer exposures. 5

Tried this out while on vacation a few weeks ago. Its dark as expected and when used properly gave me great results. I found that the filter is a little more difficult to clean relative to a typical UV filter however it can be done with a little patience. On my camera set up it does add a slight reddish tint to the images in certain situations like strong backlit scenes. 5
