Mount your Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K or 4K camera or cage onto a shoulder rig, tripod, or 15mm rod system with this 501PL-Compatible Baseplate from SmallRig.

The top of the aluminum baseplate features a Manfrotto 501PL-compatible quick release plate that provides 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting screws. The middle of the baseplate is a standard 15mm LWS rod clamp that secures to a rod system with thumbscrews. The bottom of the mount fits onto any standard ARRI-style dovetail mount, and there are also 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting threads on the bottom for additional mounting options. An Allen wrench is included for the adjustment of thumbscrew tension.

A: While the bottom is shown on a Arri type dovetail plate, the bottom of the SmallRig 15mm LWS Baseplate also has 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 tripod threads so you can attach it to any tripod.

Q: 5. What else do I need to attach this to a Manfrotto tripod that uses a 501PL plate? I ordered this, but confused on how this attaches to the tripod. Do I need to get a dovetail plate?

A: You will need a dovetail plate in between the tripod plate and Smallrig Baseplate.

Q: 6. Will this work w/Zcam F6 in 8Sinn cage (bottom ~8mm thick)? ...#’s look good. Currently 8Sinn bridgeplate, but it doesn’t engage safety catches front & rear of 12” Arri dovetail plate as 8Sinn plate dovetails too thin and shallow; not safe. Working with Wooden Universal Matte Box, Xeen Primes, Vmount attached to rear of cage via Nitze mount, Ninja V + Zacuto Kameleon, (all from B&H thank you!)... so a fair load on good ole O’Connor 50 head. Difficult to find a good sled...any recommendations? Looked at Arri’s & everything you’ve got but Zcam is too tiny. At least it was when I started!

A: This is designed specifically for the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k and 6K along with select SmallRig Cages. We do not recommend it for use with the ZCam F6.

I got for my Bmpcc 6K Pro and the original camera plate that came with the kit didn't properly fit the Smallrig camera cage that I had. Bought a separate 501PL style camera plate but had to readjust the tension knob on the baseplate so that the new camera plate would slide in. It's great that you can adjust it to your needs but have a small screwdriver handy if you plan on using other camera plates! 5

Secure, compact, well made. Be aware, though, that there is no riser function, so aligning a mattebox for example could be a problem. 5

Nice option for switching between a fully rigged setup w/external battery, larger lenses with hood or rails, and quickly getting a handheld setup using the internal battery (or small external) and some smaller prime lenses. 5

Works great other than the one tightener hits my manfrotto quick release plate, so have to tighten it via allen wrench rather than by hand. Super solid build quality, just a bit pricey. 5
