The 4.4 lb Befree GT XPRO Aluminum Travel Tripod with 496 Center Ball Head from Manfrotto is a 4-section support with the twist M-Lock leg system that quickly unlocks with a 90° turn, enabling you to extend the legs along with the rapid center column to a maximum height of 64.6". The ergonomic leg-angle button disengages the legs, so you can splay the legs at different heights, and you can completely splay the legs out to a minimum height of 3.5" for low-angle or macro photography. At the same time, the built-in 90° column mechanism allows you to pull the center column out and slide it back in on its side, letting you shoot right over your subject.

The 496 Center Ball Head, which has a load capacity of 26.5 lb, has two independent knobs for the ball movement and for panning, and the main locking knob includes an adjustable tension control on the side of the knob. The head also has a quick release system, which is supplied with a dedicated 200PL PRO plate. To store the tripod or travel with it, the legs fold in the reverse to a length of 16.9" and fit into the included carry bag.

A: The Manfrotto Befree GT XPRO Aluminum Travel Tripod with 496 Center Ball Head (B&H# MAMKBFRA4GTX) (henceforth called the Befree), and the Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod are both good options, albeit of different sizes. The Befree is smaller, has compact twist-locks on its legs, reaches a maximum height of 64.6" (164cm), and folds down to just 16.9" (43cm). In contrast, the MT055XPRO3 is taller and features surer but bulkier flip-locks on its legs, all while standing at up to 70.8" (180cm) and folding down to 27.9" (71cm) for storage. As its name implies, the Befree is typically considered a better option for travel while the MT055XPRO3 will be preferred by many for general use.

It's a great little tripod, that can actually hold a fair amount of weight, all things considered. I use it backpacking and hiking with my RB67, which is a beast of a camera, and it acquits itself very well. The way it can get low to the ground by positioning the center column at a right angle to the body and splaying the legs is a neat trick--though admittedly this is one time the heavy camera is too much for the poor thing. But it is a travel tripod, after all.

This is a really well built tripod, it's been great so far, and very compact. One thing I thought it had which it didn't was monopod functionality. This model has the ability to go into a horizontal mode (not sure how to explain it) but it's probably the reason why it doesn't have a monopod. There's another model that looks very similar with the monopod and without the horizontal functionality. I think I would still rather have this one.

This is my first Manfrotto tripod and the build quality from this model is superb. It feels sturdy upon setup, and it's now a must carry in my photography bag.

This is tripod legs and head combo is probably the strongest contender for best travel tripod. It is definitely the most versatile. With the ability to have the center column quickly pivot 90 degrees, this setup makes it easy to get quick low shots. I’ve used this tripod for hiking through the woods. It’s super quick to setup (less than a minute) and easy to change from low to high shots.
The legs are very stable and quick to extend.
Pros- versatility and ease of use
Con- could use one or two more lock stops for the leg positions for the lower shots.

Sturdy, compact, lightweight, portable, easy to use.
It fits my Manfrotto suitcase.
I have a 5D Mark IV. That camera is not going anywhere with this exceptionally sturdy Tripod.
I highly recommend it.

The most expensive tripod I've ever purchased but well worth it. Being so adjustable there is almost no angle you can't shoot at. I preferred this version over the carbon model because I'm broke and the extra weight helps to prevent shaking in the wind.

Love having the center post convert to the horizontal. I wish it was a little longer though, as there's no counter weight to keep the legs firmly on the ground.

I’m a beginner in photography. This is my first tripod. I’m very happy with this purchase. Very solidly built. The 90 degree column gives me the ability to shoot at eye level (I’m 5’8”) or just above ground level - all in one package. Adjusting the tripod or changing the orientation of the column is very simple and smooth. The only thing I wish I had done differently is get the carbon fiber version over the aluminum to save a little weight. Overall I’m extremely pleased with my purchase, and believe this tripod will serve my purposes for many years!
