The 3.9 lb Befree GT XPRO Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with 496 Center Ball Head from Manfrotto is a 4-section support with the twist M-Lock leg system that quickly unlocks with a 90° turn, enabling you to extend the legs along with the rapid center column to a maximum height of 64.6". The ergonomic leg-angle button disengages the legs, so you can splay the legs at different heights, and you can completely splay the legs out to a minimum height of 3.5" for low-angle or macro photography. At the same time, the built-in 90° column mechanism allows you to pull the center column out and slide it back in on its side, letting you shoot right over your subject.

The 496 Center Ball Head, which has a load capacity of 26.5 lb, has two independent knobs for the ball movement and for panning, and the main locking knob includes an adjustable tension control on the side of the knob. The head also has a quick release system, which is supplied with a dedicated 200PL PRO plate. To store the tripod or travel with it, the legs fold in the reverse to a length of 16.9" and fit into the included carry bag.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the ballhead work with a peak design standard ARCA plate?

A: You would want their Peak Design dual plate that works on both arca-swiss and 200PL. https://bhpho.to/3eSdzxm

Q: 2. I have an older Nikon DSLR (D5300), do I need an adaptor to mount it on this ball head?

A: No, the Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera (B&H # NID5300B) does not need an adapter to mount as it is compatible with the 1/4"-20 mounting screw of the Manfrotto Befree GT XPRO Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with 496 Center Ball Head (B&H # MAMKBFRC4GTX).

Q: 3. Can the included ballhead be removed and replaced with a different ballhead?

A: Yes, the head can be removed.

Q: 4. Can it be used without the center column?

A: I'm sorry, no, you cannot use this tripod without the center column.

Q: 5. Can it be used with an l-bracket? I suppose I could add an arca-swiss clamp but would I be able to close the legs with that extra clamp attached? thanks a lot

A: The Manfrotto Befree GT XPRO Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with 496 Center Ball Head cannot use an Arca Swiss style L bracket but you can use this Manfrotto RC2 style L bracket: https://bhpho.to/2TCtJ89

A: Yes. The Befree GT XPRO CF tripod and 496 ballhead have a combined weight of 3.9 lbs.

Q: 7. Can I make this head Arca Swiss compatible? How do you do that?

A: The Manfrotto 496 ball head is both 200PL and Arca compatible. When using plates from other manufacturers your results may vary.

Q: 8. What is the length of this tripod WITHOUT reversing the legs?

A: Unfolded, with head attached is 24''. Folded length would be 16.9"

Q: 9. Are there spiked replacement feet for this model?

A: Unfortunately, there are not.

Q: 10. Is it possible to replace the kit ball head with 496 Centre Ball head with Top Lock plate? I mean include the other ball head in the kit instead of the original 496?

A: No. The ballhead is integrated into the unit and cannot be replaced or swapped out.

Very stable tripod and super lightweight- more so than the aluminum version. I have used Manfrotto Tripods since the 1990’s and I trust their quality.

I had to replace my aluminum tripod that got stolen, so I went with this carbon fiber one. I love how light and easy to carry it is. It came with a nice bag. It is very sturdy as well. Good buy.

This is the first tripod that I have ever owned. I spent a lot of time researching which one to buy. Ultimately, I think it depends on your personal preferences. I chose this one for the twist locks, but I suspect some people prefer the clips. I mastered this tripod in no time at all. I find it very easy to set up and break down. I can twist and untwist two at a time, making it very quick, setting it up. It works extremely well with my spotting scope, and my camera.

I have several carbon fiber tripods from Manfrotto, but this is best one (more compact, but greater load capacity)! I plan to use it with my Nikon Coolpix P1000.

There were three main things that influenced me to buy this tripod.
1. Light weight.
2. Small size.
3. Horizontal center column.

I hate tripods. They are heavy, clunky, a pain to use, and never really let me put the camera where I want it. I am in my 80th year and, while I felt I needed a decent tripod (I have two clinkers that cost little and do less) I can barely carry the gear I want, much less add a bulky, heavy, inconvenient tripod.

This Manfrotto is $pendy for sure, but much more likely to get out and actually be used. It is stronger than I expected, taller than I expected, much more convenient to operate than I expected, so don't be fooled as I almost was by calling it a travel tripod. It is twice the professional tripod of any I have ever owned, and I was a working pro for many years so I know tripods.

This is a premium lightweight yet rugged, beautifully designed piece of equipment. Lightweight as you would expect but surprisingly very sturdy. It had no problem with weight of my Canon 5Diii and heavy lenses. It also folds up quite compactly - a real engineering feat.
