The Cokin 62mm NUANCES Clearsky Filter is designed to reduce the appearance of light pollution in images or video that include the night sky and illumination from artificial light sources. This effect can be obtained when this filter is used on a film camera system with daylight film installed or on a digital camera system with its daylight white balance setting selected.

Light pollution occurs in areas of the night sky that are above or near concentrated and intense sources of artificial light such as cities. These light sources can include exterior and interior lamps for commercial or residential buildings, brightly lit advertisements such as billboards, streetlamps, as well as sports and entertainment venues. Together they can result in a type of light pollution known as sky glow, where individual stars, the Milky Way, and other astronomical features in the night sky are obscured. Additionally, artificial lights clustered together can become difficult to individually discern. Light pollution from these "cluttered" sources can become a source of distraction within an image and can resemble overexposed areas of glare.

When used, the Cokin 62mm NUANCES Clearsky Filter can improve the results of nighttime images by absorbing the yellow light from sodium-vapor lamps or mercury-vapor lamps, common light sources within urban areas. By preventing the dominant wavelengths of light associated with the color of those lamps from being recorded, the visibility of astronomical objects is enhanced, and artificial light sources are more clearly defined with less glare and improved contrast.

This filter is constructed from optical-quality neodymium glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It features an aluminum alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Please can you tell me if this product is suitable to mount on the front of a DJI Phantom 2 Vision + ? Thanks!

A: This product is not recommended for use with the DJI Phantom 2 Vision+.

Q: 2. Is this filter (Nikon 95mm Circular Polarizer Filter II) multicoated?

A: I checked the Nikon manual for the filter and it is silent on multi-coating (generic filter foldout is provided). A competing website for B&H says that it is. Nikon's website is also silent. So I cannot say for sure. I am happy with the filter, the glass is exceptional using it on a new Nikon 200-500. Please note that it is exceptionally thin, spinning the CPL piece is easy while get it on and off the lens takes some care as I have big hands.

Q: 3. Does it come with the anamorphic square insert?

A: Yes. the gourmet for anamorphic also came today.

Q: 4. Will this work on a Sony a6000 ??? Sometimes these Circular types will not work on particular Digital Cameras !!! Thank You !!!

A: This filter will work with any lens that has a 40.5mm diameter. Circular polarizers are compatible with digital cameras, however linear polarizers are not.

Q: 5. Does this filter come with a case?

A: Yes, a storage case is included.

Q: 6. Could Specs list the height of the filters since this affects vignetting? Some regular polarizers I own are thinner than some companies slim filters.

A: This filter is about 7mm high.

Q: 7. I cannot find any objective comparison between the Hoya HD3 Circular Polarizer and the NXT Plus other than brain wash marketing. Would someone help finding information? I can hardly justify $200 in a filter even though money is not a problem.

A: The HD3 has 16-Layer Nano Multicoating

Q: 8. Nikon circular polarizer 77mm

A: Not sure what the question is but the Nikon CPOL II is top of the line. Compared to the B-W, the Nikon has a higher polarizing effect, smoother rotation, and is thinner. Easy one finger set inside a sun hood. Once set, it stays put. Pricey but worth it. Get step-up rings to cover other lens filter sizes

Q: 9. Is this compatible with Pentax K70?

A: The Hoya 62mm R72 Infrared Filter is compatible with the K70. As for results it will vary depending on settings and the scene/shot.

Q: 10. How many stops of light should we compensate for with this lens?

A: The Hoya R72 Infrared Filter blocks about 5-6 stops.
