The 52mm NUANCES Variable ND Filter from Cokin is designed to mount onto lenses with 52mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 5 to 10 stops. Its density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with dots and includes a rotation lever to further enable fast and precise positioning of the front ring.

This filter is constructed from Schott B270 glass for increased optical clarity as well as color fidelity, and each glass surface features 16 layers of Cokin's EVERCLEAR 5 anti-reflection coating. A: The SmallRig 77mm MRC Variable ND Filter is not a green filter. It is a varible ND filter.

A: According to the manufacturer, the thumb screw on the the SmallRig 77mm MRC Variable ND Filter can be removed. However, SmallRig recommends not to use this filter with a lens hood.

Q: 7. Is there a non-variable ND drop in filter for this mount? Like a set of multiple NDs? I can't stand the color shift and increased contrast variable NDs create. I'd much prefer to just carry around a few drop in's at varying ND levels

A: We're afraid not. At this time Canon does not offer any alternative ND Filters for this system.

Q: 8. Is this filter too dark to focus / compose with the filter already mounted?

A: It depends of course on the amount of ambient lighting in your shot. My work flow is to focus first, shoot to check focus, exposure, and composition. You really need to see the image properly expose before adding the filter. Then I shoot a few images with various shutter speeds with the filter on. Eventually you will become intuitive about your exposure times.

Q: 9. How big is the actual filter? Will this drop in to the 52 mm filter slots at the back of Canon telephoto lenses?

A: I don't have the actual dimensions but the filter is permanently mounted in the holder and it will only fit into the canon drop in filter mount adapter. See BH #CAMAEFRFDIND.
