Primarily designed for kick drums, floor-toms, and electric bass, the sE Electronics V Kick is a dynamic microphone with a supercardioid polar pattern. It's intended to be quite versatile, with four different tonalities thanks to two switches mounted on the rear of the mic. One switch controls the frequency content of the midrange, while the other changes the high-frequency capture of the V Kick.

Thanks to these switches, you can secure a rounded midrange with a softer high end, a scooped midrange with a defined high end—or the complete opposite: A scooped midrange with a softer high-end, or a round midrange with a softer high end. This allows you to use the mic with all sorts of styles of kick drum, from big-band jazz to aggressive metal. The same is true for basses. You can tailor this mic for something that complements a round, vintage Ampeg tone, or a more modern back-pickup style.

These switches are positioned on the rear of the mic, and this helps with live-sound functionality. With different bands switching their instruments between sets, this mic can be of service in keeping changeover time to a minimum in club venues.

At the heart of the V Kick is its DMC7 SB capsule, which utilizes an aluminum voice coil for a transient-rich sound and a bottom end extending low enough to record the fundamental frequencies of kick drums and basses. Its supercardioid pickup pattern ensures little bleed, helping you isolate the sound-source from other drums or cymbals. The capsule is suspended inside the mic to keep it decoupled from mechanical vibration, shocks, jolts, and other issues.

The mic's all-metal housing is rugged, making the mic suitable for live use on the road. A gold-plated XLR connector helps to provide a reliable signal connection. With a windscreen built into the mic, it's already internally protected against winds, plosives, and extraneous noise. A black windscreen and a knurled nut for third-party mounting kits are included.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is it okay to use this with a shotgun microphone that can take a battery for its phantom power, such as the Senheisser MKE 600?

A: Yes, the sE Electronics DM1 Dynamite Active Inline Microphone Preamplifier could be used to increase the gain of a battery-powered shotgun microphone such as the Sennheiser MKE 600, but doing so may overload the input connection or exaggerate the self-noise of the microphone.

Q: 2. Can this be used with a Rode ProCaster? With my existing boom or should I invest in a separate mic stand?

A: The sE Electronics Reflexion Filter PRO is a rather heavy product. We recommend the use of a heavy duty stand such as the Auray RFMS-580 for stability.

Q: 3. Can this be connected to a iPhone with an adaptor?

A: Yesm the sE Electronics sE2200 can be connected to an iPhone using a mobile audio interface that supplies the 48V phantom power required to power the mic. You can use an interface such as the IK Multimedia iRig Pre (B&H# IKIRIGPRE), iRig Pre HD (B&H# IKIRIGPREHD), Saramonic SmartRig DI (B&H# SASMARTRIGD), SmartRig+ DI (B&H# SASMARTRIGP), TC-Helicon Go Vocal (B&H# TCGOVOCAL) or any other mobile interface designed for use with iOS devices. Some may require an additional adapter for connecting to a Lightning port. The Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (B&H# APLAADAP) can be used for that purpose.

Q: 4. Does this microphone connect with laptops and mpcs

A: This large diaphragm microphone would require an audio interface with the ability to provide 48 volt phantom power in order to connect to a computer. A very good choice would be the Audient iD14 10x4 USB Audio Interface, B&H # AUID14.

Q: 5. I’ve had these mics for about 2 months now. At first they performed very well, but in the last week or so the three that are on my toms crackle terribly when I hit the tom. This has rendered them unusable for recording. When I take them off the drum and just hold the mic close, this doesn’t happen. Seems like the vibration of the drum is rattling the internals if the mic. Has anyone else had a similar issue or have a suggestion for fixing it?

A: Either way you won't be able to fix it. Either return it or contact the manufacturer about a replacement.

Q: 6. Will this device work with Sure Phantom powered shotgun mic over 180+ feet of cable?

A: Yes

Q: 7. Can this be used free standing on a table or does this need to be mounted on a mic stand?

A: It can be used on a table top as long as you remove the piece in the back that would attach it to your mic stand. Works very well for VOs when its flat on a desk or table.

Q: 8. are there cables included in this kit?

A: The Pyle Pro PDKM7 does not ship with cables. XLR mic cables are available separately in multiple lengths. Please see the following link for recommendations: a href= http://bhpho.to/1BlZOgX target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1BlZOgX/a

Q: 9. Is there any reason this wouldn't work mounted inverted on a boom mic setup?

A: None at all. Just note the weight at about 5 lbs.

Q: 10. Does this have the current hardware mounting upgrade from the 2016 anniversary model?

A: As of January of 2017, B&H received all new and upgraded models of the sE Electronics Reflexion Filter PRO - Acoustic Absorber.

Most audio interfaces don't give mics enough gain, usually only 60 dB. This is not enough; you need more like 80 dB to get usable mic levels at reasonable working distances.

The SE DM2 fits the bill very nicely. It's transparent and very clean. I use it with a dynamic mic (AKG D202e).
