Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the dilution ratio from concentrate when developing 100 Tmax and 400 Tmax? Also what is a standard development time?

A: Click the link below to view the Kodak product sheet showing dilution and dev tiems; https://imaging.kodakalaris.com/sites/uat/files/wysiwyg/pro/chemistry/j24.pdf

Q: 2. Is this for T Max film only. Is this for 100 speed or faster. Is there a film that I should avoid if I buy this. Are there any samples?

A: This developer will handle most, if not all Kodak black and white films.

Q: 3. How does this compare to the original HC110, are the dilutions from concentrate the same?

A: The dilution is not exactly the same as the original. The best thing is to do a test run or two to hone in on the best mix, time and temp for the film you are using.

Q: 4. Why isn't Tmax developer recommended for use with sheet film? I have used it to develop Tmax sheet film (using trays) in the past and have not had any discernible issues.

A: Kodak cautions against using T-Max developer with sheet film, because of the risk of dichroic fog.

Q: 5. Is the current batch problem free? Some people mentioned that the batch 2019/08/09 has some issues.

A: To our knowledge, there have been no issues reports with the current batch of this chemistry.

Q: 6. can i use it with all black and white film?

A: Kodak Professional XTOL Film Developer is compatible with many black and white films. But since some films require specific developers, it would be impossible to say any one developer is compatible with all films.

Q: 7. what is te weight of this item?

A: The 1 liter packet of D-76 powder weighs 100g (it's on the package!).

Q: 8. What changed with respect with the older version? What chemicals?

A: There was no change to the chemistry. It was just an internal part number change from Kodak.

Q: 9. How does it differ from the fixer that it replaced?

A: Hi--no changes were made to the product, but the packaging and wholesale arrangements were changed slightly.

Q: 10. How many rolls of b&w film can this 5L of Xtol develop?

A: It depends on the size of the tank you are using to process your film and the format as to how many rolls can it process. The instructions on this link give you some information on a break down of that, https://bhpho.to/3QPtt0f.

Probably my favourite liquid developer. I hope Kodak keeps producing their darkroom chemistry, it’s always very consistently good.

Ilfotec HC is my go-to developer at home because I shoot HP5 95% of the time, but on the occasions when I do shoot TMax 100 and 400, I like to dev with Kodak chemistry. I'm on my fourth liter of this stuff, and it's bulletproof. Perfect negs time after time, even when I'm shooting TMax100 that expired in 1995 (which I have a lot of).

I started using TMAX developer in high school, back in the late 1980's. When processing TMAX films there's nothing better. I have never cared for what it does to TRI-X or PLUS-X (I use HC-110 for those emulsions).

In my professional wedding work where the client requests film photography, I find it provides solid and reliable results as indicated by the photos. With T-Max films, this developer offers sharp images. With other bespoke films, you can achieve almost poetic results that can’t be created with digital photography. Develop it by hand and bring back the joy and artistry of photography that initially pulled you to photography.

I use this a lot on expired TMax 100 and 400 film, and the results are always great. Really solid developer for those films. And easy to mix since it's just a 1:4 (or 1+4) dev-to-water ratio.

I lost use of my dark room 4 years ago when I resigned a teaching job at an art center. I had enough equipment to build my own dark room at home, but was just a little bit too lazy to do so. Recently I got bored with digital and wanted something to inspire me again with my photography. I found five 35 mm film cameras in my storage closet in excellent condition. I had to decide: am I going to sell these things or am I going to get back into shooting film. So I set up a dark room in my home. And ordered this developer. I was used to using the old d76 powder. This makes it so easy and so clean. And I like that I can get great quality negatived and a little shorter developing times. So I'm going to definitely reorder this product; very impressed with it.
