To address the particular demands of hunters, birders, and outdoor enthusiasts, Celestron upgraded their venerable series of binoculars with extra-low-dispersion (ED) glass in the 8x42 Nature DX ED Binoculars. They deliver bright high-contrast images with accurate true-to-life color and crisp clarity, even when observing from long distances. To achieve this optical performance, these binoculars feature anti-reflection fully multi-coated extra-low-dispersion glass lenses with phase-corrected BAK4 roof prisms. A wide apparent angle of view presents an immersive observational experience to complement the impressive performance. The binoculars also allow you to take in sweeping vistas without having to move your head very much—making them ideal for everyone, from stalking hunters to sports fans watching a game on a large playing field. Additional features like a long eye relief and wide exit pupil improve viewing comfort while reducing eyestrain, so long glassing sessions are more pleasurable.

Designed to stand up to a lifetime of outdoor use, the binoculars' chassis is made of a lightweight and durable polycarbonate that is also corrosion resistant to make it ideal for boaters. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to make them waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme changes in temperature or environmental conditions. Celestron includes tethered front and rear lens caps to add an additional layer of protection in the field, with the ability to quickly react to glassing opportunities without fear of losing the caps. For those long days in your blind or in the field, the Nature DX ED binoculars can be tripod mounted using an optional adapter for vibration-free viewing.

  • Wide 60° apparent angle of view helps to minimize the appearance of distracting hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics

  • Large slip-resistant center focus wheel is easy to manipulate in cold or wet conditions, or when wearing gloves

  • Wide 5.25mm exit pupil will completely cover pupils as they open and fully dilate in low light, ensuring the entire view remains visible

  • Light and durable polycarbonate chassis is resistant to the expansion and contraction that metal chassis are susceptible to and which can cause the optical components to move out of alignment over time, preventing the ability to achieve sharp focus
  • Exterior rubber armor with textured palm pads offers impact protection while providing a slip-resistant grip
  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving though extreme temperature and environmental conditions
  • Tethered flip-down objective lens caps and a one-piece ocular rainguard allow for fast reaction to glassing opportunities while keeping the caps out of the way and safe

Q: 7. My husband and I are going on a safari and these binoculars were recommended. Are they a good fit for safari or should I be looking at others?

A: I bought a pair of these two years ago, mostly for use at our country retreat outside Ithaca, NY. Deciding factor was the close focusing ability, though they are fine at a distance, as well. They seem virtually equal to a pair of Eagle binoculars I got for a birthday present some six years ago. Only thing about roof prisms is they provide less stereo separation at a distance. But issues like color fringing, collimation are negligible. A very good value. Was just watching a flock of cedar waxwings eating hawthorn blossoms with gusto.

Q: 8. My eyes have different prescriptions. Does anyone know if the Celestron 8x42 Nature DX has a dioptric correction feature?

A: Yes, very straight forward to use given the lens covers. 1) Cover the right lens (the one with the dioptric correction wheel) look at some object and focus using middle focus wheel, 2) Uncover the Right Lens and cover the left lens, while looking at the same object, adjust the dioprric wheel for a sharp image.Jim

Q: 9. ? tripod adapter

A: Yes this model can take a Tripod Adapter. If you look under the accessories recommended for this binocular it will show a section that says mounting click on that, and it will show you all the compatible tripod adapters. I’ve had these for a couple weeks and like them so far. This is my first pair of $50 binoculars. I got these for some night sky viewing and some backyard bird watching. So far I’ve enjoyed sharp views of the moon with no chromatic abberation. I’ve also spotted a couple of the Gallilean moons of Jupiter from a fairly urban area outside of Washington DC. I like the wide field of view. The weight is significant, so for extentended viewing its necessary to brace against something. Quick views are pretty easy though.

I previously had the Nature DX 10x42, but misplaced it so I was in the market for a new pair. The image quality of the EDs is an incredible upgrade—shockingly crisp and crystal clear image even when backlit. Really makes the difference for a beginner/intermediate birders.

I did a lot of researching for some binoculars that I could use for hunting. Vortex, Bushnell, Nikon, Athlon and Leopold to name a few, for about $250.
I finally settled on the Celestron 8X42 DX ED and man I don't regret that one bit!
I tried these binos in low light and it work great! and even better in daylight!
I could see the smallest details in the nature and I how bright and sharp the image gets! ED glass sure is awesome :)
The focus wheel is really good and easy to get the clear and crisp focus.
Lens caps are nice and don't get in the way of the lens when hanging down.
Neck strap is the only con I can think of. But they must be sacrificing that and using better glass instead.
The carrying pouch is meh, I would like hard case/shell but hey, it works.
It feels really good in the hand and yes I have large hands.
This binos are really nice build!
The bottom thing is..

If you want great binoculars under $200
with ED glass,
is well build,
bright,
really sharp image,
feels good in the hand.
Look no further! Buy this and you won't regret it!
