Ideal for portraiture, the EF 135mm f/2L USM is a medium telephoto prime and a member of Canon's L-series of lenses. The long focal length coupled with the f/2 maximum aperture afford a great deal of control over depth of field for isolating subject matter and using selective focus, and the bright aperture also benefits shooting handheld in low-light conditions. In regard to the optical design, the lens uses two ultra-low dispersion elements to control chromatic aberrations and color fringing for high clarity, and a Super Spectra coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy. Complementing the imaging attributes, a ring-type USM is employed to deliver quick and quiet autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus control.

Medium-length telephoto prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 216mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also affords significant control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques.

Two ultra-low dispersion (UD) elements greatly reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color accuracy.

Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.

A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with an rear focusing system, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.

Rounded eight-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens is dust and moisture-resistant for working in inclement environmental conditions.

Compatible with optional EF 1.4X and EF 2X teleconverters.

Q: 1. I have canon 1300d and lences 55-250 .I want bigger lence for wildlife photography. pls suggest lence with low budget

A: Tamron 150-600

Q: 2. does this lens stay in focus as you zoom (is it parafocal)?

A: Yes! Keep pressing lightly on the shutter without actually taking a photo.

Q: 3. I've just purchased this Canon EF135mm F/2L USM and no regrets. However, I purchased this primarily for portraits as was my use back in the days of film, but I'm reading on this site and others that the new choice is the way-pricey 85mm L Lens. I've the Canon 5D Mark IV (Full frame), so I'm a happy clam, I'd just like THIS groups thoughts on 135 mm vs. 85 mm for most portraits ????

A: 135mm and 85mm are both great options when it comes to shooting portraits. If you have the distance between you and the subject, I do like the 135mm for full-length portraits and such. Both are great, and there isn't a wrong answer, if 135mm is what you're comfortable with, then stick with it.

Q: 4. While this lens doesn't have specific dust and moisture resistent construction, Canon states that all L-lenses have a certain degree of weather protection. For those that have used this lens outside, have you found any issues? (e.g. with cold, mist, light rain?) I currently have a 5D IV with 50mm f/1.2 which is all weather-sealed.

A: I did not have any issues with this lens yet

Q: 5. Is has is 2 version like Nikon 200mm f 2 vr 2? Plz tell the answer anybody

A: This lens is using Canon first iteration of Image Stabilization.

Q: 6. This doesn't look image stabilized, and I was interested in purchasing this for cinematography to capture some unique shots with awesome aperture, without the 70-200 hassle. Has anyone used it for such? It seem like 135mm is a bit much for this use without an IS.

A: An IS is useful when you photograph on exposures lower than 1/80 NY hands. When your camera is on the stand - you should turn off IS. It means that for professional video the IS is useless.

Q: 7. Would this lens work on a Canon 50D?

A: The Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM Lens is compatible with the Canon 50D.

Q: 8. I have 200 mm f/2L is usm lens. I need a lens cap for it. The cover it comes with me is awkward to have. Is there a cap that I can buy? I know it is a large lens - but I need a cap for it.

A: Yes: Try Amazon www amazon com/Don-Zeck-Lens-Cap-Lenses/dp/B002YRZLBA

Q: 9. Is this version best for low AF noise for video?

A: The STM version is better for less focusing noise as well as a smoother focus: https://bhpho.to/2S7XjBs

Q: 10. I have a canon 600D camera and I an looking for a telephoto lense, wondering if I should get the canon 70-200 f/2.8 or this one.

A: I have both lenses. While the 70-200 is heavy (like 3 lbs) it is by far my favorite and most versatile lens. Its very sharp for a telephoto and versatile and image stabilize. The latter lens is not image stabilized, although it is very sharp. It also is a fixed lens which makes it less versatile. The only downside for the 70-200 is the cost, which is substantial. I've had mine for more than 10 years and still love it!!!

This is one of the most outstanding lenses in my collection of Canon lenses. It is well built and delivers outstanding performance in all categories. I use it principally for photographing wild flowers because of its sharpness. It is one sweet piece of glass.

This is the VERY BEST Canon Portrait Lens every made. Probably the best portrait lens ever made by any lens manufacturer.

This lens lives up to it's rep of being very sharp with wonderful background blur. I just took it on a vacation to the Carribean and used it also with the 1.4 converter. My 70-200 saw very little use. This lens attracts much less attention and gives great results. I think my 100 macro is a bit sharper upon initial tests, but may send it to Canon for them to check out. Very happy overall.

I don't ever write product reviews but this lens is so good, I felt compelled to review it. I've had a bunch of the canon primes and a few zooms and this is my favorite by far with the 35 1.4 coming in a very close second. I'll list the reasons why this is my favorite lens below. 1.) This lens is extremely sharp, even wide open. 2.) It autofocuses very fast. 3.) It has tons of amazing bokeh at f/2 which is also great for low light settings. 4.) I see no CA, even wide open. 5.) It is one of the few Canon lenses with a build quality that is on par with Nikon's lenses. 6.) It is extremely cheap for how good it is. Seriously, if you're considering this lens, just get it. I was looking at and tested this lens, the 85 f1.2, and the 85 f1.8 and I feel like this lens blows both of the 85's out of the water. This lens is extremely versatile, especially if you're shooting film or a digital full frame like I am. You can shoot indoor and outdoor portraits, sports, events, and you can even do some macro work if you get a close-up lens. Favorite Canon lens for sure.

Top pick for a wide variety of applications, specifically bought for action and panning purposes but very useable for cityscape and (ofcourse) portrait. Light weight and very useable (+reasonably sharp) alternative to carrying larger teles (when using extenders). For indoor or less rugged use the EF 100mm f/2 is a cost effective alternative and worthwhile consideration. To benefit the most from this lens' qualities you will absolutely have (want) to use it at f/2-f/5,6 most of the time, otherwise a cheaper zoom will do just as fine.

This is one of my wife's favorite lenses. She uses it on her 5D for portraits primarily. She traded her first one for a 24-105L f/4 but lamented it's passing so much I bought her another one for our anniversary. Apparently I done good because she truly loves it all over again. I bought it at B&H. They ROCK, got it here on time, without hassle.

As with most Canon L lenses, this one is sweet. The focus is fast and sharp. I like the images with this lens so much better than the 135 setting on my 70-200 mm L lens.
