Although I am a longtime SureFire customer (nine years and counting), and have a number of their tactical illumination tools, I was hesitant to purchase the SureFire Pen III due to reviews regarding the clicking mechanism failing; however, I am so glad I elected to purchase the pen. This pen is one of the best writing instruments I have ever used. The body of the pen itself is very similar to their illumination tools in that it has a grooves for a secure grip. I could see it being used in a wide variety of environments. When I first held the pen, I was surprised at the weight. This pen is certainly heavier than I expected. However, I have found that I prefer the heavier weight because I have a habit of really pressing down when I use a pen or pencil. However, with the SureFire pen, I no longer have to press down so hard. In fact, light pressure is all that is needed. The ink cartridge that comes with the pen is incredibly smooth and writes with a very precise line, which is incredibly easy to read. In fact, I have replaced my pens and pencils with the SureFire pen. As a student, I understand the importance of a quality writing instrument. Additionally, my notes have become more legible now that I write with this pen. Although SureFire is probably best known for their line of tactical illumination tools, their writing instruments are second to none! I enthusiastically recommend the SureFire Pen III. Pick one up today, you won't be disappointed! I also strongly recommend B&H Photo and Video. This was my first time purchasing from them and would do so again. They have the best price on SureFire products and free expedited shipping to my location. They also kept me updated regarding processing and shipping times. Dual purpose. Accepts Parker Jotter, Quink Flow, Schneider Slider 775, and Schmidt Easyflow 9000 refills. Solid build quality. Primarily an excellent pen that will last a lifetime, the rest is up to you. Well worth the cost for what your getting.

Very nice pen, solid construction and smooth action. The color -- I purchased the Tan version -- is more an almost gold brown with a tinge of green than a straight tan. It is a very pleasant color. I also have a SF Pen IV -- the III has a set of large grooves perpendicular to the long axis of the pen that seem to offer far more useful grip to counteract the pen sliding in ones hand along the long axis than the thin longitudinal grooves on the IV. The rear grooves on the III lack the annoying sharpness of the rear grooves on the IV. Overall, I prefer the III to the IV (and the SF Pen I) so far.

Not only is it a great writing instrument (balance, build quality, style), it can be used for defensive purposes (window breaker, kubaton, etc.). And the Schmidt refill writes well, also.

This is a very nice, heavy duty pen. Writes great, love the ergonomics of the grip and the mechanism is smooth and flawless. A little on the spendy side but I love surefire products!

Surefire is the gold standard for PD accessories and the Tac Pen is no exception. The press cap makes the product completely innocuous and easily function as a pen. The heft of the Al frame in the hand shows that it means business when it has to. Clip is sturdy and retains well in a shirt pocket. Don't leave home without one.
