Surefire Fm79 Infrared Filter Assembly For Hellfighter 4
- Product Code: ga69647
-
The FM79 Infrared Filter Assembly from SureFire is a swing-open infrared filter that is designed exclusively for use with the HellFighter 4. This clamp-on infrared filter cancels out the visible non-infrared portion of the light beam generated by your weaponlight. The resulting smooth and perfectly-focused IR beam is visible with NVDs and infrared-capable video cameras.
Thumb pressure on the locking tab releases the cover, and a spring mechanism keeps the open cover flat against the flashlight's housing. A locking lever keeps the entire unit securely attached to the weaponlight.

Q: 1. Will this work on a Nikon 18-55mm DX VR lens?
A: No, the Hoya 77mm R72 Infrared Filter (B&H# HOIR7277) will not fit directly on a Nikon 18-55mm DX VR lens. Nikon has made many lenses of that description, and they require different sizes of filters. Some of them accept a 52mm filter, while others require a 55mm filter. Please see the number on the front of the lens next to the symbol that looks like a circle with a slash going through it. That is the correct filter size for your lens. If the number on your lens is 52 (i.e. 52mm) then the right size filter is the Hoya 52mm R72 Infrared Filter (B&H# HOIR7252): https://bhpho.to/39ZGP24 However, if that number is 55 (i.e. 55mm) then the filter you'll want is the Hoya 55mm R72 Infrared Filter (B&H# HOIR7255): https://bhpho.to/2Vv5c5qHowever, if that number is 55 (i.e. 55mm) then the filter you'll want is the Hoya 55mm R72 Infrared Filter (B&H# HOIR7255): https://bhpho.to/2Vv5c5q
Q: 2. I was planning on shooting both in color and B&W in raw format and was wondering what type of a result i will get in color mode?
A: A RAW color image shot with an infrared filter will produce a yellow/red image with blue foliage.
Q: 3. How much do you have to compensate for light loss?
A: The R72 drops you down approximately 5 to 7 stops.
Q: 4. is this work with Nikon D7100 ?
A: It will work with any digital camera, however, you are most likely looking at a 20-30 second exposure at ISO200. This filter on a film camera with ISO 400 film is rated at 8-12 ISO so you will have to compensate accordingly. Also, all composition must be done prior to putting the filter on the lens as you will not be able to see once it is in place.
Q: 5. how many stops of light should we compensate for with this filter?
A: We should compensate about 5-6 stops of light with the Hoya 62mm R72 Infrared Filter.
Q: 6. How many stops of light should we compensate for with this lens?
A: The Hoya R72 Infrared Filter blocks about 5-6 stops.
Q: 7. Will this work with a Canon R5?
A: The Hoya 67mm R72 Infrared Filter will fit any lens that has a 67mm filter thread. You can use the filter on a lens that is attached to the Canon R5.
Q: 8. will it work with a Pentax 645D?
A: mmmmI' don't think soThat camera is too new.The IR filters works better with older digital cameras like the Nikon D50, D70 and D80, D100 (2001 - 2006)
Q: 9. I want an infrared filter for my 70 to 300 nikon VR lens and for a fixed 50 vr lens. What do I need?
A: Purchase the filter you want to fit the larger of the two lenses then buy an adapter (also called a step-up ring) for the smaller. For instance, if your 70-300 lens uses a 77mm filter and your 50 uses a 52mm filter then purchase the 77mm filter and a 52 to 77 step-up ring.
Q: 10. Can you use this if your camera's internal sensor has already had an IR conversion?
A: Hi Bill-It did not work for my Canon 7D. It seems one needs different kind of camera or make a permanent conversion of the camera body to disable the built in capability of IR conversion. Subrata
