Rokinon 8mm T3.8 Cine Umc Fisheye Cs Ii Lens For Sony E Mount

The Sony E mount Rokinon 8mm T3.8 Cine UMC Fisheye CS II Lens was developed primarily for film and video applications. The cine version of Rokinon's 8mm lens features industry-standard gearing for the focus and aperture ring, and the aperture ring has been de-clicked for smooth iris pulls. The aperture and focus scales have also been relocated to the side of the lens, where it is easier for focus pullers to read them.
This lens is compatible with APS-C-sized sensors and provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 12mm. Its 180° angle of view makes it well-suited to creative applications. The optical construction incorporates one hybrid aspherical element to reduce chromatic aberration and distortion to produce sharper imagery. Additionally, a UMC coating has been applied to lens elements to minimize lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich images.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Does Rokinon 8mm T3.8 Cine UMC Fisheye CS II Lens is working with full frame E mount cameras like sony alpha 7?
A: The Rokinon 8mm Fisheye lens is designed for APS-C sized sensors. You could mount it on an A7, but the camera would need to be turned to its crop mode. To take advantage of the A7's full frame sensor you could look in to the Rokinon 12mm T3.1 Cine DS Fisheye Lens instead.
Q: 2. What kind of filter/holder can I apply to this Rokinon 8mm f 3.5 Fish Eye?
A: Unfortunately, this lens cannot accept filters.
Q: 3. I can't get this to mount properly to my Nikon D3200. When mounted it says lense not attached. Any ideas?
A: Have you tried switching the camera to manual ? Our son did this and it works, outside of that there is nothing else I can add.
Q: 4. This lens has black edges on the sides with the Sony A6300 ?
A: If you are looking for a round image surrounded by a black rectangle, you need a full frame camera. There are no known lenses that can do that with an APS-C camera.
Q: 5. Hi,- Is this really version CS II ? Because the picture does show CS - Can the hood be removed?Thank you very much!
A: Excelent product
Q: 6. will this work with a Sony a6000?
A: As the Sony A6000 offers an e mount to accept E mount lenses and the Rokinon 8mm T3.8 cine lens is offered in E mount, you can use the two items together.
Q: 7. On a Sony A7iii will this produce a circular image with black borders?
A: It will because this is a crop-sensor fisheye as opposed to full-frame like the A7 series is. I use it on my A7RII and I just use it on video mode and zoom in past the vignetting, but I also take photos with it that have the vignetting and just crop it out in post. You can get a full-frame version of this lens from Rokinon, it's just a bit more expensive.
Q: 8. Anyone know the exact diameter of the barrel where the hood attaches? I am trying to fit this snugly in my matte box with minimal rear light leak. My matte uses screw-in adapter rings to bring lenses up to a standard 80mm for a snug fit with the hard mount of the matte box. However, the fisheye of course has no filter threads, so that system won't work with this lens. So I'm wondering how much light leak there will be...i.e., ***how much less than 80 mm is this lens at the front?? Thanks guys!
A: Adam,The front diameter of the Rokinon 8mm T3.8 Cine Lens is 75mm. Be aware that it has an 180 degree viewing angle so it will have you matte box in the frame. I tried to use this lens once during a music performance to mess around to see what I might get and I saw my monitor and front of my rig. This was with the end of the lens slightly in front of my mounting rods. So I would have had to adjust my camera mount further up to not see anything, but I didn't have time to do all that during the performance.Nick K.
Q: 9. Whats the difference between this version and the Rokin 8mm non Cine lens?
A: Optically, they are the same. They both have removable lens hoods - which in reality might not do much since the lens is so wide. It is a good idea, unless you want some flare, to keep the least amount of sun from directly hitting the lens. The Non Cine version has a smooth focus ring, the Cine version has geared teeth to mesh with the standard pitch gears on follow focus systems. The focus scale is also printed to the side to allow a focus puller to accurately focus the lens during a shoot. The non cine version is rated at F/2.8 which is the mathematical configuration of the size of the aperture opening compared to the focal length. The T stop, used to measure true light transmission through the Cine lens is T/3.8. This more accurately tells you the amount of light the lens will actually put through the glass. Also, Transmission ratings are supposed to be universal if calibrated correctly. T/4 on one lens should give the same amount of light passing through it as another lens at T/4. I can say from using the 8mm, there is of course barrel distortion, but it is truly remarkable. For the money the lens is very sharp, and I have used it many times - especially in some of the independent films I work on. You need to show an entire room without fisheye distortion? Gran the 8mm!
Q: 10. Will this lens give me the classic fisheye distorted image on the Nikon D5200? If not is there a decent Lenape that will?
A: Yes it will. This is a fisheye lens designed specifically for cameras with an APS-C sensor like the Nikon D5200. It is a great option.
