Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this Mic perform PA duties at a sporting event ?

A: Yes, but you would need the unterminated cable (B&H # SECABLEII6) available for separate purchase and you would have to solder on your own connectors. If you are looking for a headset that comes with the capability of connecting to the XLR mic input on a mixer and the 1/4'' headphone output on the same mixer, for connection to a PA system at a sporting event, the Sennheiser HMD 26-600-II-XQ comes with the connectors built onto the cable (B&H # SEHMD266IIXQ) and the Audio-Technica BPHS1 (B&H # AUBPHS1) is also a very popular option.

Q: 2. what are the dimensions of the headphones themselves?

A: The Shure BRH440M Headset has 40mm drivers. The headband is adjustable and the earcups can be folded up for storage and transport.

Q: 3. I have an Audio-Technica broadcast headset that is made useless by the excessive noise from the plastic parts that transmit into the microphone. Dies the Shure BRH50M have similar issues?

A: We haven't had any complaints regarding the Shure BRH50M.

Q: 4. What is the plug(s) on this headset? 3.5mm TRS? 1/4" + XLR (send/receive)? No pictures and nothing listed in the specs

A: The Shure Dual-Sided Broadcast Headset does not include a cable with purchase. The cable can be added separately via the options linked here: https://bhpho.to/3B7CWXo

Q: 5. Looking to use this with clearcom 4 pin beltpack, which cable connection is mic, which is headphone?

A: The HMD26-II-600S-X3K1 ships with a cable designed for standard mixer/recorder input. The cable features separate 3 pin XLR mic connection and 1/4 jack for the headphones.

Q: 6. Does the mic mute when you turn it straight up like on other comm headsets?

A: Yes, the microphone on the Sennheiser HMD 301 PRO-X4F Single-Sided Broadcast Headset can be muted when the boom is moved to an upright position.

Q: 7. Can the mic be muted, or does that require a belt pack?

A: The Telex LH-302 Lightweight RTS Double-Sided Broadcast Headset does not have an onboard mute switch for the mic. The microphone will need to be muted externally, from a switch on the beltpack or device that the headset is connected to.

Q: 8. Are the XLR and 1/4" ends for different feeds? Like one is for microphone, the other for listening?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser HMD 26-II-100 uses a 1/4" TRS connection for its headphones and XLR for its microphone.

Q: 9. Will this headset work in the PortaCom system?

A: Based on the wiring specs available, this headset is not compatible with a Portacom system. I would recommend using a Portacom headset such as the H-2000s for a Portacom system. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/149411-REG/Porta_Com_H_2000S_H200S_Single_Sided.html

Q: 10. Can not find any documentation how the Neutrik XLR 5-pin male connector is wired? Which pin is what?

A: The specifications provided by Shure are for the version with unterminated cable end. The model with the 5 pin Neutrik plug attached is not described anywhere in any Shure manual...!

This is one of the greatest upgrade I ever had. Great equipment. Versatile and ready for when I grow up with a new XLR console.

I'm a teacher, and I've been making YouTube videos for my classes during remote learning. I went with this mic after watching some reviews and I've been very happy with it. It was easy to set up through USB, and I like that I'd be able to go XLR in the future. I chose a dynamic mic for background noise rejection in my noisy apartment and because I don't mind always being right up close to the mic.
As a teacher doing remote lessons, the difference between good audio and bad audio in my videos is the same thing as the difference between speaking clearly versus mumbling in front of a live classroom. The comparisons I did between my computer's built-in mic versus this one were night and day.

There are no issues on my end whatsoever. The audio quality is crisp and clear, the boom arm and attachments are easy to set up, and the headphones are comfortable.

I'd definitely recommend betting this starter kit for anyone interested in starting a podcast. It even has both USB but XLR capability.
