Taking performance inspiration from the venerable Nagler series, then combining the optical design properties of both an eyepiece and Barlow, the Tele Vue Panoptic 41mm Wide Angle Eyepiece has a 6-element/4-group lens configuration that produces a generous 68° field of view and improved edge-of-field performance, while minimizing size and weight.

This eyepiece has the longest focal length in the series, and one of the longest that Tele Vue offers, to produce a low magnification on most optical tube assemblies (OTAs) — making it ideal for wide-field observations of the night sky and most lunar, planetary, and deep-space needs. It is outfitted with fully multi-coated optics to maximize light transmission, color rendition, and contrast, with blackened lens elements that limit internal light loss and diffraction. It also has a fold-down rubber eyecup that helps to block stray peripheral light, avoiding interference with the views and further enhancing contrast. Its exceptional 27mm eye relief provides ample room between the lens and eye to prevent accidental contact that can interfere with views. This model has a large 2" barrel diameter to make it even more comfortable to view through, and a textured rubberized grip for sure handling. This eyepiece is parfocal with the 27mm Panoptic eyepiece, requiring little or no refocusing when changing between the two.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How will this lens perform with the Celestron 1100 CPC Goto?

A: @ 2800mm of Focal length on the C11 you would be off the chart at almost 600X magnification. Way too much. Televue recommends not higher than 350X magnification. So the 8mm version would fit the bill better.

Q: 2. How will this lens perform with 10” Dobson? (Celestron StarSense 10)

A: The Tele Vue Ethos 17mm Ultra Wide-Angle Eyepiece 2 inch is fully compatible with a 10 inch Dobsonian telescope.

Q: 3. are the Delos series eye pieces par-focal?

A: Yes it is. This is parfocal with Tele Vue Group B eyepieces so no refocusing is required when switching between eyepieces within the group.

Q: 4. Hello,Is this lens compatible with the Celestron 6SE telescope?Many thanks

A: I bought the lens about a month but have no chance to view through it yet. However I did try fitting it to my Celestron 8SE telescope which has a 1.25 diagonal and I did not have any problem.

Q: 5. what is the percentage of distortion.....?

A: It would really all depend on the Telescope you have. Unfortunately I do not have that type of information, my apologies.

Q: 6. Is this a good eyepiece and is it compatible with the Celestron Nexstar 105 GT telescope?

A: Televue Panoptics are excellent eyepieces. Very sharp, clear images. To determine if an eyepiece is compatible with your telescope you first need to calculate your telescope's Maximum True Field of View, then calculate the eyepiece's True field of View. Eyepieces that have a True Field of View greater than your telescope's Maximum True Field of View will cutoff the image and have chromatic aberrations around the edges. Generally speaking, it does not hurt to go a little over tFOV with quality eyepieces, but the more the eyepiece's tFOV is over the telescopes's max tFOV more of the image is cutoff and the worse the chromatic aberrations get around the edges. There are several very good free eyepiece calculators available on the web to calculate Max tFOV, and help determine eyepiece compatibility.

Q: 7. B&H review note says Delos 8mm eyepiece is parfocal with GROUP B, what is that?

A: That is referring to compatible Parfocal Group 'B' Eyepieces. Here is a list of those eyepieces: 8 - 32mm Plossl eyepieces All DeLite eyepieces 19 & 24mm Panoptic eyepieces 3.5 - 12mm Delos eyepieces 16mm Nagler 5 eyepiece All 1.25" Nagler 6 series eyepieces

Q: 8. how do you know what type of eye piece works best with your telescope? Is there a rule or formula to calculate it, if you work with refractor/reflector, and if you add a barlow lens?

A: For example, to calculate maximum power of a telescope, a 90mm diameter scope will have a 180 maximum power. Please call in for further info .

Q: 9. Could I use this with my Meade 125 etc?

A: If your telescope has a 1.25 eyepiece opening then this eyepiece will work. To determine if your scope does I will need to know the exact Meade Model that you have.

Q: 10. Does this require dioptrx adapter?

A: No, not necessary. The Tele Vue Nagler Type-6 9mm Eyepiece (1.25") BH #TEEN69N • MFR #EN6-09.0 should work in any telescope that takes a 1.25" eyepiece.

Used two of these in an APM 82mm bino-scope for the total eclipse, performed admirably and in a nice small, light and comfortable viewing form factor. Definitely keepers and I look forward to the views at night!

I took advantage of a recent sale and got a couple of great Tele Vue eyepieces. This is one of them. The wide field of view is optical perfection--color, contrast, sharpness. Eye placement isn't troublesome. Works great on my Tele Vue refractor and my other telescopes.

A great low-power / wide-field eyepiece for a larger Schmidt-Cassegrain (SCT) telescope. This is one of my two most used eyepieces (the 27mm Panoptic being the other). It gives the maximum field-of-view possible for a 2 eyepiece. Very nice for viewing nebulas, open clusters, and larger galaxies. This eyepiece is best used on a large (11 or larger) SCT telescope that has been modified with a 2 visual back. Smaller SCT's do not provide the full 2 visual path that this eyepiece needs. A 24mm, 27mm, or 35mm Panoptic would be better low-power choices for them. Also, Dobsonians and other scopes with shorter f-stops (like f5) would waste light by producing too large of an exit pupil. A 31mm Nagler or 21mm Ethos might be a better choice for those.Very sturdy eyepiece. I accidentally dropped mine on the pavement and dinged it up a bit, but the optics were undamaged.A fairly big and heavy eyepiece, but a large SCT won't even notice.

I use this eyepiece with my Vixen VC200L as a wide-field piece (1.23 degrees TFoV) and my Vixen AX103S (2.69 degrees TFoV). Like all my other Tele Vues it just works, well-built with clear, crisp images. It is relatively large and heavy, but that comes with the territory and the performance.
