Combining 4K Ultra HD video recording with in-camera editing, and creative effects, the Panasonic HC-WXF991K 4K Ultra HD Camcorder offers simple yet powerful operation to enable users of all levels to capture high-quality 4K UHD and Full HD video. Featuring Wireless Multi-Camera functionality, the camcorder supports up to two picture-in-picture video feeds using Wi-Fi connected mobile devices or the secondary camera built into the flip-out LCD screen. This enables you to capture multiple angles and viewpoints simultaneously for a unique video experience.

The camcorder features a 1/2.3" backside-illuminated (BSI) MOS sensor with an 8.29 megapixel effective resolution that combines with a Crystal Engine 4K image processor to support 4K UHD video at 24/30 fps and 1080p video up to 60 fps. The camera is also able to take up to 25.9 megapixel interpolated still images, and also offers the ability to extract still photos directly from your 4K video frames using the 4K Photo Mode. Other advanced features include built-in cinema-like effects, an HDR Movie mode, and in-camera 4K editing tools that allow you to perform in-camera cropping, zooming, panning, tracking, and stabilizing to your 4K footage. The edited video is saved in 1080p resolution.

Optically, the camcorder utilizes a Leica Dicomar lens that provides a 20x optical zoom range and a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 30.8mm at the wide end. Intelligent zoom boosts that range up to 40x for Full HD and 25x for 4K recording. To keep excessive image vibration to a minimum, for steadier handheld shooting, the HC-WXF991K features Panasonic's HYBRID O.I.S.+, which combines optical and digital image stabilization to provide 5-axis correction, which can be combined with Panasonic's Level Shot function to produce clearer, level, and more stable looking hand-held footage.

The camcorder's built-in Wi-Fi supports the Wireless Multi-Camera feature, along with other functionality through the Panasonic Image App. These functions include remote camera control, live image monitoring, and file uploading directly to social media sites. Once connected to your smartphone, you can even live stream video using USTREAM to share moments and events with your friends and family as they are being recorded. Additionally, there's a Baby Monitor function which lets you use your smartphone to quickly check in on a sleeping baby in another room.

The HC-WXF991 features a secondary camera built into the edge of the LCD monitor. This additional camera provides 270° panning and ±20° tilting for recording two angles simultaneously. The video from the secondary camera is recorded in a sub-window for picture-in-picture recording. A backup function allows you to simultaneously record images with and without the sub-window for greater flexibility during post. The twin camera operation also features a narration mode which emphasizes the user's voice during recording-a feature that is particularly useful when the sub-camera is capturing a close-up of the user's face.

Sub-Camera Specs:

5.27 Megapixel, 1/4" MOS sensor

37.2mm (35mm equivalent), f/2.2 lens

Wireless Multi-Camera expands the picture-in-picture recording of Twin Camera by letting you can connect up to three mobile devices over Wi-Fi and use two of them to record picture-in-picture images. This makes it easy and fun to capture multiple angles and viewpoints at once.

Built-in editing tools allow you to crop your 4K video and add effects such as zooming, panning, tracking, and stabilizing. The edited videos are saved at 1080p resolution.

Pause and extract 4K (8.29 megapixel) still images from 4K video frames using the 4K Photo Mode.

Cinema-Like Effects allow you to simulate shooting techniques seen in films, such as Slow & Quick Video, Slow Zoom, Dolly Zoom, and Slow Motion Video.

By combining two images taken with different exposure times, the HDR Movie function suppresses blown highlights and blocked shadows for crisper, clearer videos. With HDR you can maintain gradation in your images in difficult shooting situations, like when your subject is back-lit.

A convenient 0.24" electronic viewfinder improves viewing in bright daylight, while a slide and tilt mechanism provides increased flexibility for more comfortable recording.

Stabilized on 5 axes (pan, tilt, and roll axes, plus horizontal and vertical directions), the HYBRID O.I.S+ suppresses blurring and jitters in your videos when not using a tripod or other stabilizer.

Level Shot automatically detects and corrects tilting in images. It can be adjusted to three different levels-OFF, Normal or Strong-depending on shooting conditions.

In addition to Wireless Multi-Camera, the camera is also able to take advantage of remote control and image sharing from a smartphone or tablet using Panasonic's mobile app. Once connected to your smartphone, you can even live stream video using USTREAM to share moments and events with your friends and family as they are being recorded.

Built-in Wi-Fi also enables you to take advantage of the Baby Monitor feature, which lets you use your smartphone to quickly check in on a sleeping baby in another room when both the camcorder and mobile device are connected to the same home network. You also have the ability to speak to your baby via your smartphone or have a notification sent to you when the camera detects that your baby is crying.

I became a fan of Panasonic starting with their GS500 camcorder and have since had the TM900, X900M and upgraded from the X920 to this one. Also several of their still cameras since. Not at all disappointed in this camera. I don't know what people are doing or expect reading some of the bad reviews. Stabilization is amazing, several low light options including IR for total darkness and a video light. Either some expect miracles or don't know how to use the camera, but I am glad I trusted the more positive reviews. So many options it might be too much for some users, but I have been shooting video for a very long time and have become familiar especially with Panasonic's menus, etc. I expect to usually shoot in 4K and then edit and downgrade to 1080P and have shot several videos in difficult situations and am quite happy with the results on my 50 monitor. The in-camera editing is interesting, but doubt anyone with a computer and editing software will use it much (I won't). I doubt I will use the secondary camera either but might have a rare situation where it is useful. The things I like better about the previous models are 1. a larger LCD monitor (3.5 inch instead of 3) and 2. the X900M and previous had an actual remote instead of having to use a smartphone app. Of course I knew about this before buying and still have my X900M. FYI the older models had a flash for stills, this one does not but instead has a video lamp and IR lamp. As always my purchase experience here at B&H was great as always.

The quality of the video is amazing.Excellent color accuracy, even in low light, and accurate autofocus, even in low light.  Short battery life is the only draw back. I did purchase a spare battery to have on hand.

I am a HOBBYIST videographer who concentrates on making edited movies .Typically 45 minutes long. To date, shot with a Canon HF G30 HD 30P and edited with FCPX. Recently did a 20 minute edit Disney visit with Canon HF G30, HD ,edited on iMovie I really wanted to move to 4K. I This is my experience with about 2 hours of video on a Panasonic WXF991( 30P /60 mbps) , P , and identical clips on a Sony FDR AX53B (30P 100MBPS) , S, importing to FCPX, followed by a cursory edit, and attempting a Masterfile with mixed clips. The clips were positioned side by side in the timeline. First, either camera makes the 4k experience worthwhile. An unexpected significant improvement over up-converted to 4K HD. Although I found some poor reviews on the Panasonic, I tried to focus on the visual and audio final edited product, not the detailed specs. Color in a variety of lighting conditions....slight edge to the Sony....unnoticeable without side by side comparison.. Ease of Use....With large hands (11 1/2 -12 ) the smaller Panasonic was consistently and surprisingly more comfortable to use vs. the larger diameter Sony. The viewfinder experience goes to the P, with the S viewfinder practically unusable for serious shots. ( Stability especially sensitive on hand held shots) Couldn't find the clue to editing S in FCPX until I found the key on UTUBE...set the USB setting to MTP in the Record toolkit and avoid hours of frustration. Import only through camera cable. The toughest material for both was moving waves and water, and panning. There seemed to be a slight edge for the P, even with 100MBPS on the S. No significant difference in night shots ( the S might satisfy those who want shots in the dark irrespective of color) No significant difference on the bulk of material....architecture, trees, flowers, while driving....etc. Did not spend much time on still shots, but a 20:1 Zoom on the P of kernels of wind blown ripe wheat was truly awesome. Decided on the P. Hope this helps.

I bought the 881 for a research trip to New Zealand. After 5 weeks of using it I had tried most of it's features and found the camera to be amazing. For my run-and-gun style it was light weight and versatile, though I found the night time imagery very grainy and generally unusable without adequate lighting. It did, however, catch the images in almost total darkness outdoors - good for documentation but not so good for final video shows. The camera is difficult to hold still, compared to my Panasonic HVX 200, that weighed in at around 7 lbs with lens extension, because it is so light. It requires good technique and/or a tripod to get professional video out of it. I find I use my post-shoot stabilization filter in FCP7 a lot. The biggest issue was with my previous camera was the lack of an eye-piece for capturing fast moving subjects. I just couldn't see enough with just the screen, especially in strong daylight. My new camera, the HC-WXF991 has the essential view finder and I have had much less of a problem following and framing my subjects now. I also have an issue with the manual zoom location - can't reach it with my big hands, but the on-screen zoom is awesome. On all other scores, it is a remarkable camera. The video is beautifully sharp and the response to various lighting and atmospheric conditions is very good - capturing good color and exposure in most instances. I got my 35 hours of research video in New Zealand and am looking forward to using my new 991 in the near future for more of the same.

This is a great tool for live streaming with clean HDMI and mic input. I was worried about the picture quality while it's dark, but, it turned out good.

I bought this camera a few months ago and have used it non stop. I am a storm chaser and use it for both livestreaming through a capture card as well as independently recording footage and it has not let me down. Quality of the video is excellent.
