Tiffen 138mm 1 Straw Solid Color Filter
- Product Code: ga7068
-
The Tiffen 138mm 1 Straw Solid Color Filter adds a warm, golden yellowish coloration across the entire image and helps to subdue overly bluish casts. The solid color design makes this filter well-suited to pairing with other filters for further control over the appearance of imagery. The 1 color density provides less straw coloration than the 2 density filter.
This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Q: 1. can I use this [Ice 95mm ND100000 Solid Neutral Density 5.0 Filter (16.5-Stop) BH #ICND10000095 MFR #ICE-100K-95] filter for solar eclipse photography?
A: Yes. This can be used as a Solar Filter to photograph a Solar Eclipse.
Q: 2. When I use this filter for long exposures I get a purple haze across much of the picture. Why?
A: If I may make a wild guess and say that your viewfinder is not blocked out during your long exposures? Higher end cameras have a built in closure right next to your eyepiece that you need to close, or you will have to do it externally. You are getting a light leak through the viewfinder and it is striking your sensor. This is what happens to me when I forget to close my eyepiece off. I get the same magenta cast. As to why it is magenta, I do not know. Maybe it is because of the infrared is better at passing through the mirror?
Q: 3. Is this filter suitable for solar photography?
A: It would be best to use one that is listed for Solar photography. This is a link for one that is larger with a step-up filter ring, https://bhpho.to/3shqkMJ and https://bhpho.to/3YEbnk3.
Q: 4. will this the Cannon LA-DC58K Lense Adapter I just bought from you all ?

Q: 7. Is this filter CE or ISO Certified?
A: No it is not certified for use with your eyes only for cameras and telescopes. I will quote the warning on the package, do not use the optical view finder. It is not suitable as eye protection . When using, view image remotely on camera screen.

Q: 9. What is "Ice" as in Ice P Series ND1000?
A: Ice is another brand of filter which works with the Cokin P filter holder.
Q: 10. What is the signifigance of no coating? Is this primarily a durability/longevity concern and would stacking multiple uncoated filters or mixing a coated filter and uncoated polarizer make a difference for my image?
A: The coating of glass surfaces used in filters and camera lenses is a long standing practice. It has been shown to significantly reduce wanted reflections. These reflections can reduce contrast, color and sharpness. Of course, coatings increases cost. I would say that the price of this filter is very attractive due because it is not coated. I am guessing that since this is a 10 stop ND, the manufacturer is regarding the dropping of the coating turns this into a win-win: you get 10 stops ND for less money.
