Powermates are the highly-evolved answer to the Barlow lens design from Tele Vue.

While barlow lenses increase the eye relief of the eyepiece in use, they also reposition the exit pupil of long focal length eyepieces far from the designer's intended position. This can cause vignetting and image degradation.

Using four elements, the Powermates leave the exit pupil where it was intended to be, restoring the full viewing aperture and optical quality of long focal length eyepieces. Have the best of both worlds; the long eye relief of the longer focal length eyepieces, but with higher magnification!

Nearly parfocal with 2.00" diagonals, the 2.00" Powermates are threaded to accept 48mm filters and their performance is exemplary with every 1.25" & 2.00" eyepiece in the Tele Vue line.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can I use 1.25" pieces with this ?

A: Yes, the Tele Vue 4x Powermate (2"), comes with a 1.25mm adapter allowing you to use a 1`.25 eyepiece with it.

Q: 2. Are the Delos eyepieces par-focal?

A: Yes they are par focal with many other Televue eyepieces. Go to the televue site and look at the chart of eyepiece specifications. Scan the column 4G . Eyepieces with the same letter in that column are parfocal. So most of the Delos ep's have the letter B . You will see that some other types of TV eyepieces also have the letter B . All those are par focal.

Q: 3. Is this compatible with NP101is?

A: Yes, the Tele Vue Focusmaster Driver 10:1 is compatible with the Tele Vue-NP101is 4"/101mm Refractor Telescope.

Q: 4. I have a 2x Powermate and mount it directly to the 90 degree Televue Everbrite dielectric on my TV-85 for viewing with both the eyepieces and attaching my DSLR via the Powermate adapter with T-ring. Is this how the 4x mounts as well?

A: If I undestand your question correctly, I say YES. I have used my 4x Powermate on my Meade 7 LX200 Mak-Cass with a 2 Diagonal. I dont really need that much magnification on my scope when viewing VISUALLY, why I bought it was for shooting Prime Focus using my Canon T3i DSLR. For this it performed flawlessly. Im pretty sure you are aware these Powermates are a step up from the lowly Barlow and its quite noticable once you've used both and compared the differences ! Just be sure you have the 2 adapter if you are using this 2 Powermate. Aside from that, keep looking up ! :-)

Q: 5. Tele Vue 2.0x Powermate (2") - does this allow 1.25" eyepieces as well?

A: Yes. The Tele Vue 2.0x Powermate (2") comes with an adapter for 1.25 inch eyepieces.

Q: 8. Hi can someone help me, I have Tele Vue 85 - 600mm and will connect this to a Canon 5D M4 that I have, and then insert. Tele Vue 4x Powermate (2 ") (PMT4201) + Tele Vue SLR prime focus camera adapter for 2" focusers (ACM2000) + Kowa TSN -CM2 T- Mount camera adapter ring Canon EF (CM2-CE) + Canon 5D M4. Will this work regarding focus?

A: That would be the best combination I would try.

Q: 9. What size and pitch thread is on the phonemate ?

A: They do not publish the thread pitch but it is only compatible with Tele Vue brand eyepieces: Eyepiece Compatibility: All DeLite All Delos Plössl: 55mm, 40mm, 32mm Panoptic: 41mm, 35mm, 27mm, 24mm*, 22mm, 19mm All Nagler Type 4 Nagler Type 5: 31mm, 26mm, 20mm* All* Nagler Type 6 All Ethos

Q: 10. What I feel that needs to be better explained about eyepieces and focal lengths as in 6mm or 25mm is that the opening is tiny for 6 mm as compared with 25mm that is wider . The lower the focal length the difficult it gets to train your eye throughthe opening due to its tiny opening. My child experience with my first kid telescope that came with 6mm and 25mm eyepieces told me that 25mm is more enjoyable to use despite lower magnification than the higher magnifying 6mm which is so restrictive in the opening for my eye to keep peeking through as steadiily as I can. I think that a minimum of 10mm is acceptable to me or maybe 12mm. . Am I correct?

A: Yes that is correct. 10 or 12mm will be okay. It also depends on how large of an aperture your scope has. The bigger front opening of the scope the brighter the image.

I received this a few days ago for viewing planets, particularly Saturn and Jupiter, though my Celestron C8 cassegrain. I have several 2-inch Tele Vue eyepices (up to 16 mm) as well as a 6.5mm and 9.0mm Baader Morpheus eyepieces for greater magnification. The Powermate used with the 20mm Nagler Type 2 and the 16mm Nagler Type 2 provided greater clarity and easier viewing than the Baader eyepieces. Views were sharp to the edge of the field. I was impressed. I'm thinking of replacing the Baaders with another shorter focal length Tele Vue with which to use with the Powermate for even greater clear, sharp magnifications on nights of good seeing. The Powermate is more expensive than a barlow, but the quality of magnification with really good eyepieces is worth the money. I'm not parting with this--ever!

I thought it was not possible to have a Barlow lens and not see a much dimmer image. It is possible and it still stays focused. I'm very pleased and awed.

The Televue 2 2X Powermate is a well-built item, as expected for
Televue. Compared to a standard barlow, the Powermate delivers better off-axis correction, making it more suitable for imaging. For visual use, the Powermate pretty much disappears and the observer just enjoys the greater magnification.

I used the Tele Vue 2x Powermate to image the planets, as well as doing some visual observing. As usual, Tele Vue optics never disappoint!

Highly recommend this great addition to your eyepiece line up!

Works beautifully with my 115mm refractor + diagonal; am unable to obtain focus without diagonal. Top notch optics for both eyepiece observation and photo imaging with my DSLRs.
