Blue Spark Sl Large-diaphragm Studio Condenser Microphone
- Product Code: ga70867
-
Featuring a class-A circuitry to ensure a pure signal, the Blue Spark SL is a studio large-diaphragm condenser microphone which builds upon its predecessor to offer a switchable 100 Hz high-pass filter and a -20 dB pad, allowing you to offset pesky factors like the bass-heavy sonic signature of a given room, or an intrinsically loud instrument. It utilizes a JFET design, which has been fashioned to keep the capsule's backplate evenly charged, thus delivering a consistently transparent and even signal across the frequency response.
The Spark SL offers a cardioid polar pattern to minimize off-axis feedback and extraneous noise, giving you a frequency range between 20 Hz to 20 kHz, which is more than enough to record vocals, pianos, stringed instruments, and more. An SPL of 136 dB allows the microphone to capture a wide swath of dynamic material without damaging elements of the microphone. The microphone requires 48V phantom power to run, provides a dynamic range of 119.6 dB, and includes both a custom shockmount and a wooden storage box.

A: In comparison, the Sennheiser is the more feature rich. 3 step low cut filter and 3 step pad. You are also getting more selectable pickup patterns. These allow you to more precisely tailor the mics performance to a specific application. Comparatively the mic are similar in self noise, however the Sennheiser offers better specs in dynamic range as well as signal to noise ratio. Regarding frequency response, the Sennheiser is relatively flat, with the Samson featuring a slight boost in the higher frequencies. This will generally be interpreted as the Sennheiser having a warmer sound.
Q: 3. Is this the best mic for recording a quartet or small choir or group of instrumentalists where the microphone will be 5 to 10 feet way from the performers?
