The DP-V2421 4K Reference Display is Canon's flagship 24" reference display, offering versatile, high-luminance HDR functions. Designed for both on-set capture and post-production, this 4K display supports both SMPTE ST 2084 and the HLG (hybrid log-gamma) HDR standards. Its 12G-SDI ports streamline 4K60p video input, reducing the number of cables per signal from four to one.

When shooting with the Canon EOS C700/500/300 Mk II, the DP-V2421 can simplify your workflow by internally debayering the 4K raw signal and outputting it via a single 12-SDI cable. It supports both DCI and UHD 4K video at 10 bits, and supports cinema and broadcast frame rates. The DP-V2421 has a backlit IPS panel offering wide off-axis viewing, uniform brightness, and consistency with the rest of the Canon display line.

Canon Log/Log2/Log3 and ARRI Log C are all supported by the DP-V2421, with Log C preset in the display's main menu. The DP-V2421 can link to the metadata of select Canon Cinema EOS and ARRI cameras, offering "look" verification and the flexibility of choosing your camera settings through the larger display instead of the viewfinder.

A metal chassis helps the DP-V2421 4K display withstand the rigors of daily production. Ergonomic design features include an anti-tip stand, easily accessible function buttons on the front panel, and integrated carrying handles.

The DP-V2421 4K Reference Display is compatible with HDR industry standards, fully covering both SMPTE ST 2084 and HLG ranges for accurate assessments of gradations and colors. In addition to this dual-gamma curve support, the DP-V2421 features improved black level luminance and shadow area gradations.

Two HDR monitoring modes are offered to suit specific production needs:

  • Peak Luminance Priority mode: The maximum display luminance is controlled to match the brightness of the displayed contact.
  • Sustained Luminance mode: The display luminance remains constant and does not fluctuate according to the input, making this mode useful for sports and performance shoots where the luminance varies within a fixed camera angle.

The DP-V2421 4K Reference Display includes HDR tools like split screen display of HDR and SDR signals, range compression display, clipped display, camera information display, and an HDR-compatible waveform monitor.

Compatible with Canon EOS C700/500/300 Mk II cameras, the DP-V2421's internal debayering feature enables you to display the 4K raw signal using a single 12G-SDI cable. The DP-V2421 can also display 4K60p content from any 4K camera with a single HDMI cable if that camera supports a 4K60p output connection.

The DP-V2421's display capabilities and its size suit it for use both on a DIT cart for cine-style projects, and in a broadcast truck or editing suite for a director/client display or color grading.

The DP-V2421 display can link to the metadata output by a Canon C700/500/300 Mk II or ARRI ALEXA SXT camera, enabling you to check your image look and choose your camera settings via a larger display than that provided by the camera. Canon Log/Log2/Log3 and ARRI Log C can all be preset in the display, simplifying your LUT management.

Internal 4K raw image debayering and signal output via a single 12G/HD-SDI cable enables the DP-V2421 to offer a 4K workflow with minimal cabling, and without the need for an external debayering unit. Internal debayering is offered for Canon EOS C700/500/300 Mk II cameras.

Like its predecessor, the Canon DP-V2410, the DP-V2421 display can connect via LAN to select color grading systems like Pomfort LiveGrade. When used with a Canon EOS C700/500/300 Mk II camera, you can employ LUTs and CDLs while your 4K raw signal is being debayered.

The DP-V2421 display supports multiple cinema and broadcast standards like ITU-R BT.709, EBU, SMPTE-C, DCI-P3, ITU-R BT.2020, and ACESproxy. An RGB LED backlight and IPS LCD panel provide high-quality color reproduction suited for on-set or post-production display.

A full-array RGB backlight features tri-level adjustments for crisp video playback, and Canon Shape Tracing enables the DP-V2421 to minimize artifacts on scaled images.

Image display features include two-sample interleaving, 2/4 split-screen display, three-mode zooming with 4x/8x ratio and position selection, peaking to aid focusing, false color, waveform, and vectorscope functions. Additional monitor functions include fan shutdown mode, image freeze capture, image frame hold, aspect ratio and safety markers, and selectable gray/white/black band areas.

The DP-V2421's auto-correct system monitors color, brightness, and additional parameters, ensuring a high degree of uniformity over time. If needed, accurate corrections may be made to the display without a PC by using a separately available CA-210/CA-310 external sensor from Konica Minolta.

OSD menus have been reduced in size from those on the DP-V2410, and can be repositioned for DCI 4K and UHD 4K use. The DP-V2421 4K Reference Display also features assignable function buttons, an easy-to-use illuminated control area, and LAN and USB ports for connecting to a color-grading system.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What I meant to say was will the UB820 stream to two smart tvs in different rooms at the same time? If so,how? Distance between the two is about 35 feet.

A: In order for the Panasonic DP-UB820-K HDR 4K UHD Network Blu-ray Player BH #PADPUB820K to work on two different TV's at the same time you would need an HDMI splitter. For example the MuxLab HDMI 1 x 2 Splitter BH #MUHDMI1X2SP would allow you to do this. The player would connect to the splitter and then have two HDMI outputs.

Q: 2. Is this unit Bluetooth compatible with headphones?

A: This item offers no Bluetooth functionality.

Q: 3. Can a SDI source and a HDMI source be fed to the monitor simultaneously and can you switch between the two feeds?

A: Yes. Two separate signals may be sent, but only one will be displayed at one time. Keep in mind that to receive 4K with SDI you will need to use all (4) BNC ins, with a 3G-SDI cable for each BNC.

Q: 4. Is the player noisier when reading a 4K UHD disc compared to a regular blu-ray HD disc? The player sounds normal at regular play.

A: There should be no difference.

Q: 5. How long does it take from power on to playing? My Sony takes ages.

A: The Panasonic DP-UB820-K can power on and play a disc in less than a minute. I would surmise around 30-40 seconds.

Q: 6. Will the UB820 stream to two smart tvs in different rooms? One tv is upstairs and one downstairs.

A: The Panasonic DP-UB820-K HDR 4K UHD Network Blu-ray Player BH #PADPUB820K cannot stream to multiple televisions.

Q: 7. Does Panasonic DP-UB820 support Dolby Atmos

A: Officially, Panasonic does not list it in their documentation or specifications. However, most any Blu-ray player that supports Dolby TrueHD and bitstreamed output should support Dolby Atmos. Dolby is wrapping up the Atmos "objects" (the height information) into a Dolby TrueHD wrapper that works with existing players and receivers. When you send that Dolby TrueHD soundtrack out over HDMI to a Dolby Atmos-capable receiver or processor in bitstream mode, the receiver or processor detects that it is actually a Dolby Atmos track and processes the sound accordingly.

Q: 8. Is this compatible with Windows 10 and Mac?

A: The Satechi Triple 4K Display Docking Station is compatible with any host device (Mac or Windows) that has a USB-C or USB-A port.

Q: 9. Does it also work with Asian Power Input 220 Volts , specifically in India.

A: North America only: Power Requirements 120 VAC, 60 Hz

Q: 10. Will the UB820 play DVD-DL (dual-layer) discs?

A: Yes, as others have said UHD discs are inherently dual layer. You shouldn't have an issues.

I waited almost 5 months to take delivery of this 4K Blu-ray player and I havent been disappointed. I am adimittedly partial to the brand having bought my first blu-ray players from Panasonic in 2008 (and both of those players are still functioning the same way they were 10 years ago. and I own over 500 blu-rays so its safe to say they see quite a bit of use).
This Panasonic DP-UB820 is currently paired with my 4K projector and its impressive. I believe its the only currently player that supports every flavour of HDR available HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG as well as old HDR10. The playback from this UHD blu ray player is astounding, obviously physical disc are for those of us who care about image quality and seeing the films as close to the way the film makers intended as possible (not after it has been compressed to fit down a narrow streaming pipeline) Overall I;m incredibly impressed with this player, now the real test of quality will be if I can get 10 years out of it like my other Panasonic Blu-Ray players.

This is a great UHD (4K) Blu-ray player. It costs more than some others but it doesn't compromise. One particularly notable feature is that this model has Dolby Vision. You can find a cheaper player with Dolby Vision but it does not detect and enable Dolby Vision automatically; you have to turn it on and off. Spend a little extra and get the UHD/Dolby Vision Blu-ray player that does it right.

This player is awesome! I can't believe how much detail I have missed in watching some of our Disney and older movies. It is perfect!

My Oppo UDP-205 was the previous gold standard but this player has it all and is a suitable companion to the Oppo.

The DP-UB820-K is as good as it gets. Highly recommended.

A few years go by and again it's time to update DVD equipment to the new standards. Only this time, I'm blown away at what a magnificent difference this player makes, even on my old BluRay DVDs. Totally worth every penny.

Most 4k players will render the image well, but what really sets this box apart from others is their HDR rendering. Even more noticeable is between this and streaming. I was a bit of a doubter about physical media in 2023, but after comparing against even the highest bitrate streaming content, its not even close. Sharper, cleaner, grander sound, and much better HDR. The more granular HDR settings available to you on the UB820 makes images pop in ways I've never seen out of my TV.

One feature that surprised me was the ability of the UB820 to remotely control Power/Play/Pause/Stop/Start of dvd player, located in a separate room, through HDMI connection, with my Samsung tv.

I was told your waiting your money buying blue ray disks, friends said the DVDs look the same, boy were they wrong!
I have a Sony BR player and it's what i call a work wagon most times playing DVDs, home movies BR disks but it lacked the luster that my Lazer projector required. But now I have the
Panasonic DP-UB154P-K Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray Disc Player my movies shine and the sound quality are amazing, and for under $200 take your home theater experience to a new level.

Quality construction, a full complement of features, and exceptional construction. This replaced a ten-year-old Marantz. I was very pleased to find a unit, with so many features.
