There are a few key factors to consider when determining whether a monitor meets your color-critical needs. They are color gamut, color depth, brightness, white point, and black level. Calibrating your monitor is necessary for color-critical work, and can help to deliver more accurate images. NEC's SpectraViewII provides hardware for a user-friendly calibration and can be customized for color gamut, white point, and gamma corrections, as well as other settings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is a stand alone calibration?

A: Most monitors need to use an external calibration system with a "puck" that scans the monitor's colors and creates a profile. This ensures the file you work on will show the same color on your end product that you see on the screen.

Really Great Monitor! Color Fidelity is spot-On. Resolution is the only strange aspect. 2K is Difficult to do much with for Video. Otherwise it's really good!

In spite of the month of delivery delay, I am very satisfied.
After the regular Samsung TN-monitor, this Color Edge CG279X is simply exceptional upgrade.
All is very good - the design, the frame, embedded calibrator and of course the screen.
Also Color Navigator program is very useful and it displays all needed information.
The communication with my Nvidia GTX 950 graphics card is flawless and it supplies 10-bit support through Display Port.

I've only had the Eizo CG279X for a couple of weeks but love it so far. It works great with my MacBook Pro 15 mid 2015. I had to buy an extra Mini DisplayPort to regular Displayport cable from Amazon to connect and works perfectly. I got the 279X rather than the 277 so that when I upgrade to a newer MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 it will connect directly with a TB3 cable supplied. I ran the internal hardware calibration on the monitor but I'm not sure if I should also do a separate calibration with my Datacolor Spyder 5 or not for the computer graphics card? It's nice to be reasonably sure that I'm color correcting my photos in Capture One to the right standard with this monitor. Several of the ones I calibrated before with my laptop screen seem to be way off. I think I've found the best monitor for me. I've recently become aware that for video it's best to calibrate to a separate TV monitor rather than in the GUI for Final Cut Pro but for now I'm going with a single monitor setup using the 279X. I don't like having to move the cursor between screens with dual monitors. I'm also considering a Tangent rollerball surface for faster editing. No audio with this display so I dug out a pair of old Sony computer speakers that work well.
